That was a great episode, I thought the island flashbacks were well done, and some of the jokes, "Who the hell is Nikki?" :D

    Awesome gruesome ending too.
And I didn't think of Vincent trying to save them, thanks for that abelard! :)

I will miss Nikkis hawtness, she had killer bewbs d00ds! :'(

It's this that makes me think that it's possible that the plane got a helping shove when Boone was inside it...

The plane had already fallen when Paulo observes the Ben & Juliet scene in Exposé, which is meant to take place during "What Kate Did" in Season 2. That was the ep that ended with Michael using the Hatch computer to talk to someone (probably Ben) claiming to be Walt.

Sorry that was a bad joke on my part, no such rumour exists... yet...

So it would seem Die Anderen knew about the plane, and possibly even played their part in injuring/killing Boone. Does this mean the box produced a plane with Yemi, several gangster priests and a stash of heroin-lined Holy Marys? Just a thought...

    I watched it again there, and noticed that Locke says to Paulo when he's trying to hide the diamonds on the beach;

"things don't stay buried on this island".

I'm getting visions of Vincent trotting into camp dragging a half decomposed Nikki, face twisted in horror. :o

Those words and Vincent removing the blanket over the bodies are probably the 2 most important things to be taken from Exposé

The actors are busy but they'll be back before the end of the season.

Seems to be the case with a number of chars that we seen in earlier eps.

I liked that episode-nice touch of the hercule poirot about it.

Incidently did the makers have to re do the whole burning fuselage scene or were the various bits done way back at the start?
Presumably if they are making this up as they go alng with no great plan, then they re did it.
Same applies to the many airport flash back scenes in various episodes.

Yeah i was thinking this when i watched it first time. The writers had to write LOST from so many different perspectives. They do a good job in my opinion. But i am not sure if they re-do the scene.

I really liked this episode. I thought it was really gripping and I'm surprised some people have complained about it. I give it a solid 8.

What I found most interesting was the scene in The Pearl with Ben and Elizabeth as it proved The Others were the ones monitoring The Hatch. If you remember back to the season finale from the last series with Desmond and Locke arguing about whether or not they should push the button, Desmond said to Locke:

"What if you've got it backwards? What if the experiment wasn't on the two men in here, but on the two men in there?"

We know that the activities of what went on in The Hatch were recorded as the pneumatic tubes were found in a big pile. Anyone got any theories on this then?

Are Ben and The Others the unwitting subjects of some Dharma experiment on The Pearl? Or maybe Paolo was being manipulated by Ben and Elizabeth? (Don't know why that would be) Anyone got any ideas?

The writers kinda referred to this in a recent podcast, they said Ben's scepticism about the Swan's importance was genuine. This makes sense when you consider that he had first been to the Pearl, who's orientation video suggests the Swan is just a psychological experiment, therefore he thought the button pushing was a big joke. I think Dharma were trying to keep the Swan's true purpose hidden.

The only question is did Ben press the button? He claimed he did nothing and the counter reset by itself, which given the season finale seems unlikely. So maybe he had a moment of doubt, or maybe he had to enter the numbers so he could use the computer to contact his people.

For me the scene with Ben and Juliette in the Pearl is interesting. The Losties didn't gain access to the Swan until start of season 2 and at no time did they inform the Others that they had found it. The conversation between Ben and Juliette looked like Ben showing Juliette Jack. This implies that Ben had already observed Jack et al from the Pearl on at least one other occasion - Bens comments while entering the Pearl suggested that they were using it on a regular basis up to a point.

So what triggered the Others to go to the Pearl to spy on the Losties when they didn't know that they had found it. Did they have someone there to monitor Desmond and therefore witnessed the Losties gaining access. I think this is unlikely considering that Paulo and Nikki had to unearth the hatch to the Pearl when they came upon it well before the Losties gained access to the Swan.

Was it a case that on learning of the Losties the Others went back to the Pearl - they obviously knew of its existance - as it contained monitors to a whole host of locations on the island and by chance they saw the Losties in the Swan?

Does anyone have a good time reference to when the Ben/Juliette conversation took place and what was happening with Jack/Kate/John etc at that time? Had they encountered the Others at that point?

Not too sure, but when you see jack on the monitor, it looks like he's looking after someone who's in the bed beside him. Thus I think it's Sawyer, just after Eko brought him back to the beach after trekking across the island. So about episode 8 or 9 of Season 2. This would make sense as it was then episode 9 (I think) where Michael was contacted on the computer.

Yeah it is the point where Sawyer is injured and Jack is looking after him.

This may have been mentioned but was the plane not already covering the Pearl by the time they were in the Swan, Boone having died before they go into the Hatch.

Really enjoyed this episode, some nice nods to the fans in the dialogue, such as the director saying to Nikki "we can always bring you back next year" or something and Locke telling Paolo "nothing stays buried on this island" or Hurley's comments when he found out that LaShade was the cobra on exposé show.

The flashbacks to the original crash were well done imo and Paolo hiding diamonds in the jacks bit was an interesting tie up.
stevejazzx 4)Why did Sawyer give up the diamonds?

That's an interesting question. Could it be that Sawyer has given up getting off the island. Didn't Sun say diamonds are worthless on the island or something along those lines when giving them back to him. It would seem to fit, as on alcatraz he got disheartened about escaping that island after Ben showed him they were on a different island to the main one. Maybe after trying to leave on the raft and ending up back on the island, and Sun's comment he has now given up on getting off the island any time soon.

What puzzles me more though is his seeming not to know who Nikki and Paolo are. Is it just a nod to the fans or something deeper ?

The plane was covering it by the time Locke and Eko found it, but Nikki and Paulo got there before Boone and Locke first found the plane at all.

I wonder why the Others never investigated the plane though? I mean, if the station was manned, surely the occupants would have noticed it immediately upon crashing, or at least just after. Would they not have tried to help/see what was up there?

Well at first he didn't actually know I guess. He first said it when she stood up to him at the table tennis match. Nikki and Paulo never really did anything until Jack, Kate and Sawyer were kidnapped, so he either actually didn't know at that stage, or he was just annoyed that she stood up to him when she had never really been prominent before and he was being facetious.

Later he was just pretending, as he had been fighting with her and didn't want suspicion to fall on him.

To answer a question a few pages back, didnt they get the shovels from the hatch? Also I dont think this story is over. They put this story in Lost for a reason. As Lost goes on more questions will be answered and they will go back to this story.
Also by story I mean this episode with Nikki and Paulo dying.

Whats the possibility that Vincent digs Nikki and Paolo up and saves them :). He knew they were alive before they were buried. If you watch the ep again you will see Vincent pulling the blanket off the bodies as they lay on the sand. Animals have a 6th sence and i think Paolo and Nikki, well at least Nikki will be rescued by the Dog :D

Maybe I'm over-examining here, but I have two (albeit tongue-in-cheek) questions arising from this episode...
    (i) who fed the female Medusa spider in its jar for the last 40/50 days since Arzt blew up? ("That's not the one Arzt caught, Nikki went out with a glass jar and caught her own female Medusa spider" will not suffice for an answer)
(ii) where did the Losties ever get that shovel they use to dig graves and bury people with? It didn't come out of the Swan anyway because they had it long before then for the several people who died in the first season. Did some pleb decide to bring a shovel from Sydney to LA incase they didn't have shovels in America? Or did Ethan bring it with him from the Barracks as part of his decoy "luggage"?

Where did they get all there new fresh clean clothes (especially hurley)that they wear in each episode?
Do they all borrow lockes knives to shave?
Where did artz get the jars?
and so on and so on.....................

Quite possibly, since a dog's senses would be better than the people's. He could also have just wanted the blanket. If he knew they were alive why didn't he lick their faces or something.

    You wish!!

I hope not, as it would be terrible,
They are covered with sand now, and are dead. By the time the show ended they were under sand for a while (until sawyer and hurley filled hole)
you only have 3 mins before brain damage.

dammit, I jsut thought of something
the spiders bite slow the heart rate right down, it is possible to survive for much longer like this, 30 mins maybe
still dont think its long enough,
I think we will se them again, the beach is eroding as Locke said!!!!!!

Good episode. It was definetly the black smoke that killed Nikki and Paolo. I think the smoke had it all planned for them to die. Like, somehow it knew that by paralyzing the two, they would be buried alive. The black smoke was punishing the characters by death. It goes hand in hand with the predicting the future that Desmond recieved from the island.
Think about it, the characters that the smoke appears as, is the reason they are there. Ekos brother, Eko was out there because he felt responsible for his brother. Shannon was shot, because she saw Walt, followed him and got shot by the survivors from the raft that Walt was on. Now the spider was the reason Nikki was out there, and so the smoke appeared as a bunch of spiders and paralyzed her.
Does this mean Jacks father is going to be the reason that Jack dies? Maybe through the people that he has interacted with in his past.

Yeah, I think they would have a bit more time than normal as the heart slows down to a virtual standstill, so their breathing wouldnt be normal too!!

Decent episode but that spider thing was all a bit shelob for my liking. Wont miss Paulo and Nikki too much but I actually enjoyed there characters for that one short episode. I dont put much weight to the theory that the smoke monster killed them. We were specifically told that the female spiders phermones would attract a lot of male spiders. When Paolo got bit he squashed it thus releasing a ton of said pheremones and voila lots of males show up.

Also Nikki is really hot. Even better than Kate. I said it and now its over I feel better.

Worst episode of Lost to date...and not just from season 3 - from the whole show. I can't believe Lost has most of their fans brainwashed into thinking that the show can do no wrong. I know everyone has their own opinions but to say this was an excellent episode is just...stupid...

I didn't expect Nikki and Paulo to be criminals...but the whole 'fighting over diamonds' is sort of...I dunno cliche.....it just didn't work. Not a great story - the only good thing about the flashbacks was seeing Boone and Shannon and Artz. Speaking of Artz, it was interesting that he captured some of the islands bugs...it was nice of the writers to acknowledge that on a mysterious tropical island there probably will be some dangerous bugs around the place.

Also good was them being buried alive! Especially that bit where Nikki was being covered with sand and you just see her eyes open - creepy. Wonder how it will turn out...

So Nikki is a major bitch...Paulo really loves her - he wishes they never found the diamonds, Nikki was a (terrible) actress on Expose..thats really all I got from it.

And the bits with Sawyer were just frustrating. About time Charlie told Sun what happened but was it just me or did those scenes kind of seem...pointless? Even the acting seemed a bit rigid - or maybe it was just the script..I dunno...

Anyway, my lowest rating - 4/10

    Compared to last weeks 8.5/10

    :(
