There's no such thing as a really good covers band.
They're known as a last resort.

If we're talking about popularity WRT to the Revs then there are plenty of bands about who would have the same level or greater popularity/pulling power. I'm just going to list bands and before B decides to extract the urine I'm not suggesting these because I particularly like them, or anything ...

    Berkley
Dudley Corporation (Don't they have a song in the charts, or something? So they're definitely known)
    Chalets (likewise)
    Warlords of Pez
    Neosupervital
    Giveamanakick
    Complan
    Classic Beatles
    20 Bulls Each
    Bulls on Parade
The Revs have a far greater level of popularity/pulling power than any of them. It's a good list, like what I've heard of some of them, but they're just not as popular.

Pfft, thats abit harsh. The two I've mentioned also have their own material which is also quite good, however their ability to play covers almost identically to the originals is what makes them so good...

    OMFG AMZ LISTENS TO COMPLAN????

    /me burns his CD collection.
I wouldn't put the Revs on if they paid me. Having the revs headline (I'm presuming they're headlining this) an event oozes of desperation in the eyes other colleges and potential students tbh.

UnfArtunately, I have to agree with Amz up there too. Everyone's gonna know who the Revs are. They'll only know them as a piss take of a band and no more than 3% of the student body will go to an event to see the revs. It'll be "oh god the revs are playin. Ah sure **** it, I'll just go get pissed". That's not the attitude I'd like to see shown towards a headlining band. They should be more than the background soundtrack to a big piss up.

That is all the revs will ever amount to.

Just curious, and off topic. Freshers ball will be a dress up affair yeah? Tux and all that craic?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,405 ✭✭✭gizmo

No no no no no no no..... :D

The term "Ball" is used loosely to describe events in DCU. The only Black and White style balls are the Clubs And Socs Ball and the Celtic Ball if my memory serves me correctly. The rest are just your usual piss up nights in the Hub.

    Ah why'd you tell him?

He'd have been easy to spot and to point and laugh at all night.

    WAF!

    Right that does it.
    I'm wearing a tux.

Heh and we could have told him the Clubs & Socs Ball was a Hawaiian Theme. :p

Maybe they're just putting on a really good fresher's week ie there'll be proper events all week, culminating in a massive Fresher's ball on the Thursday as the event to end all events. Or not. Best bet is wait and see. Or if anybody's on the SU and know's what's going on and would like to inform us???

Hrm, was in the Hub in DCU at the weekend and that rotating sign thing had "FRESHERS WEEK - 19TH SEPTEMBER" going across it. Now thats either a mistake and they meant to have ORIENTATION WEEK or...the Freshers Week does indeed start on the 19th which means the Freshers Ball could indeed be on the 26th and The Revs et all may indeed be the "headliners" at it.

    One word for that...****.

The Freshers ball is on Thursday the 29th or so my dcu life booklet that I got in the post yesterday says...

Saw that as well, presume it's a mistake. Besides, if fresher's week starts on the 19th of September, and is presumably a week long doesn't that mean it'll end on Sunday the 25th at midnight? So no, it couldn't be the Fresher's ball

orientation week is from the 19th Sept - 23rd Sept and freshers week is from the 26th Sept - 30th Sept

And if it stays the same as every other year, the freshers ball will be on 29th Sept, but they usually have events all week, and a line up of people playing in the old bar, so there probably will be bands in the bar on the 26th as well, but chances are, it isn't the freshers ball.

They wouldn't have it on the first day back, people wouldn't have a chance to buy tickets, etc.

    26/9 DCU Freshers Ball

Thats what it says on Republic of Loose' website. I'd be very happy with that

Why would you be happy with it? Republic of Loose are good, but the Revs headlining? That's just a ****in joke.

OK, officially, I checked the new Clubs and Socs brochure thing they published, Fresher's ball is 29th of September. Thursday of Fresher's week, same as every other year. Either ROL have been misinformed, or it's a misprint which should read 26/9 Fresher's Week DCU
