Is the FO for kildare in Newbridge now as I left an application into Athy which was always sent on to Kildare before now the garda said that they send them to Newbridge

Sent in my renewal April 2025. Emailed the FO December 2025 asking for an update, nothing. Emailed a reminder 3 days ago, nothing. I am now guilty of possessing an unlicenced firearm for over 10 months. Going to email again next week and copy in the Superintendent's office.

You need to put said firearm in with RFD. Any correspondence (and it should be to District Office/Superintendent, and not to FO, as he is not the designated person) should be by registered post, or at least by email with received/read receipts. Either consult solicitor or process yourself a Civil Circuit Court Appeal for the refusal (at last check it cost €25 and the cost of serving by registered post, €10approx).

Quick question? As of now with this thread. Which district/division holds the quickest for lic turnaround and which one is the slowest?

Now I will be changing the format of this and launching a new version and thread (the new thread being locked because responses on thread aren't easy to pull stats from), whenever I get the time to do so.

But currently the worst is Donegal sitting at an average of 7.43 months for a non restricted application(not renewal).

And the quickest is Kildare at an average of 1.71 months for the same type of application.

Never forget, the end goal is zero firearms of any type.

is it possible to leave an application in a different station my local station is only 4 hours a week in co Meath but very close to one in north Dublin (about 20 minute drive)

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 2,021 Mod ✭✭✭✭otmmyboy2

    You can, but you shouldn't.

If you do it should be forwarded to the appropriate station.

However it increases the chance it gets misplaced, and likely the processing time.

Ah stop, was talking to a mate who dropped his application in 2 weeks before me and he checked with AGS as he had heard nothing. They have only gone and lost it ffs. He has to go to the RFD and get another form done. Im hoping mine ain't lost!!!

ON THE TOPIC OF "LOST" APPLICATIONS.

According to the FPU at the last Kilmainham meeting ,AGS has taken advice from the Data Comissioner and they don't actually "lose" applications rather "misplace" them.

The form is only lost according to the Data Commissioner if it actually leaves Garda custody and control and/or the stations.EG A Garda has for some reason decided to take the forms home to work on them and leaves them on the bus. Or it fell out the open station window, someone spilt coffee on one form and dumped it or somthing, accidents do happen,we are only human after all.

So your FO rings you and tells you they have "lost" your application and they want you to re do the paperwork. You can challenge them by saying ,by this call, which is an official call ,you are admitting this application with ultra personal data is now outside Garda custody and control? Then that is an immediate data control breach and the Data comissioner must be informed straight away!

OR are you trying to say ,that it is misplaced in the paperwork in someone's IN tray between your local station and the Supers office? In that case there is no need for me to refill or reapply as it is a duplicate application for the same gun and that will only confuse the issue once the original is found which is still in Garda control i presume?

Words have meanings and now we have them from FPU and the DPA.

I don't know exactly what was said but I'm 7 weeks in now and no word. There was a changing of the guard(pardon the pun) in relation to FO in the station. I'll call next week and see, although going by my mate, they were non too impressed that he called in to see!!!

Update, well not really but I did call the station on Thursday last and left a message for the FO to give me a call.................still waiting on that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 backless

Gave in my application (first gun, with mod) on the 28th of February and I received the approval letter on the 12th of March, paid it that day and then received the license in the post on Thursday 19th March- wasn't expecting it to be so quick at all. I'm in West Cork, can't say enough good things about all Garda involved in the process
