How can this be justified ? If you walk into the Post office to renew either a TV or dog licence it is issued timed and dated on that day. There’s no way the Post mistress or man is going to back date either of these licenses.

Anywhere else backdating a licence would be called fraud.

True but I suppose we never really complain enough and I include myself in that.My fathers was worse he never received his renewal grant until 10 weeks after his licence was up and again when he paid for licence it was backdated the 10 weeks.Im not sure whats happening as renewals for guards comes out plenty of time in advance and we usually send them back within a few days.

“as renewals for guards come out plenty of time in advance “🤔

Surely you are not suggesting that guards get preferential treatment?

Anyhow what gets my goat is that despite getting mine 3 months in advance of the expiry date and returning them completed within a day or two invariably the renewal is not processed until up to 3 months after my certificate has expired. Then when the money is paid the licence is backdated.

Was the licence backdated to the date of the previous licence expiring date?

If so, that makes sense to me, as you need to be continously licenced to hold the firearm.

Or did you have to hand it in to an RFD while there was no valid licence? If this is the case, then I would feel robbed if it was backdated to cover the time it was not in your possession.

Should be that renewal forms are sent out early enough that they have plenty of time to process and get back to you before your original licence runs out

Licence arrived in the post today.
Increased ammo allocation too from 500 to 1000.
I just out a mark through the original 500 on the renewal form, changed to 1000 and it was processed.

All in, a 21 day turn around. Would have been 20 only I waited a day before paying in the post office.

And to answer my own question, it’s dated Feb 2029 so no penalty for renewing early.

That’s the way it should be done. Promptly. No sitting in the IN file.
