Tuesday, 4 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... cloudy and very mild, occasional rain will be heavy at times, some fog and mist, and a few brighter spells developing towards the weekend. Somewhat more settled the following week and staying quite mild.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be mostly cloudy with intervals of heavy rain in south and central Leinster moving towards east Ulster, 20-35 mm could fall in some places leading to minor flooding. Other areas will be more showery and could see brief brighter spells. Mild with highs 13 to 16 C.
TONIGHT foggy with rain and drizzle, becoming heavy in the south towards morning. Lows 11 to 13 C.
WEDNESDAY rain mostly in western counties will taper off to drizzle, and there could be a few brighter spells by afternoon, mild with highs near 15 C.
THURSDAY variable cloud, some rain and drizzle at times, lows near 9 C and highs near 14 C.
FRIDAY partly cloudy to overcast, showers, lows near 8 C and highs near 13 C.
SATURDAY misty or foggy with mid-day clearing and some afternoon sunshine, mild. Lows near 7 C and highs near 13 C.
SUNDAY outbreaks of rain, lows near 8 C and highs near 13 C.
MONDAY partly cloudy and mild, then next TUESDAY occasional rain, both days highs near 12 C. From mid-week on (next week) it could be a bit drier as high pressure builds in from the east, but temperatures would likely stay fairly mild.

My local weather on Monday was overcast with highs near 9 C. A powerful storm system is forming now to the south of Nova Scotia and will slam into southeastern Newfoundland by late morning into the afternoon local time (around 1500h to 1900h). Hurricane force wind gusts are possible as this deepens very rapidly to 945 mbs.

Wednesday, 5 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Very mild and mostly cloudy, foggy or misty at times, occasional rain ... turning somewhat colder next week at least in parts of the north and west, a dry interval followed by milder weather again.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be cloudy with a few afternoon sunny breaks, very mild with outbreaks of rain moving north, heaviest in the north central counties and central Ulster. Highs 14 to 16 C,
TONIGHT will be overcast with mist and fog, some light rain or drizzle, lows 10 to 13 C.
THURSDAY foggy to start, some light rain or drizzle. Brighter spells may develop although further outbreaks of light rain will continue especially in parts of the south and east. Highs 12 to 15 C.
FRIDAY variable cloud, showers, mild. Lows near 8 C and highs 12 to 14 C.
SATURDAY variable cloud, showers, lows near 7 C and highs 11 to 13 C.
Little change into the first part of next week as weak disturbances continue to drift north in a slack southerly flow. Fog could become quite persistent in places. Temperatures will fall of slightly to around 10 or 11 C. Somewhat colder air will begin to push in from the north by Tuesday into Wednesday (12th), and it could drop the temperatures in Connacht and Ulster into a range of 6 to 9 C while staying closer to 10-12 C in the rest of the country.

My local weather on Tuesday was sunny with cloudy intervals, more overcast by mid-afternoon and evening. It was a bit milder with highs near 10 C. A strong windstorm travelled across southeast Newfoundland, remnants of that will be off the west coast of Ireland by about Friday but it will be dying off by then. Another energetic low is forming over the Great Lakes, and will pull in arctic air rushing southeast to bring gusty winds to the east coast of the U.S. by early Thursday (local time). Another low will follow on the weekend ushering in near-record cold air masses for an early blast of wintry snow squalls over the Great Lakes.

Thursday, 6 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Cloudy and very mild with occasional rain for most of the coming seven days, any changes in this pattern will be small and slow to develop. In general, it will not be quite as wet as it has been recently, but with a lot of fog and mist it will often be damp.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will bring a few brighter intervals as rain will be patchy in coverage and mostly confined to some coastal areas. Fog or mist may be slow to clear at first however. Mild with highs 13 to 15 C.
TONIGHT overcast with rain or drizzle at times, lows near 10 C.
FRIDAY overcast, rain becoming a bit heavier at times especially over western counties. Highs 13 to 15 C.
SATURDAY to MONDAY each day will be partly cloudy to overcast with a little rain at times, lows near 9 C and highs 12 to 14 C.
After that, little change in the pattern through next week.

My local weather on Wednesday was overcast and foggy with light rain most of the day (snow a little higher up in nearby mountains), and cold with highs of 4 or 5 C.

Friday, 7 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Mostly cloudy, occasional rain and very mild with some persistent fog and mist at times.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will bring some bursts of heavy rain through Munster into the midlands and later into Ulster, some places could see 10-15 mm, but probably a bit less in much of the southeast and in Connacht. Any brighter spells later on could be quite warm (yesterday it was 17 deg and sunny at mid-day in the Dublin region). Highs today generally 13 to 16 C.
TONIGHT a few remnant showers, mist and fog, lows near 8 C.
SATURDAY partly cloudy to overcast to start, rain moving through the south later and then into central counties. Highs 12 to 14 C.
SUNDAY variable cloud, mist and fog with occasional rain and a few brighter spells also, lows 5 to 8 C and highs 12 to 14 C.
From MONDAY to about THURSDAY it will continue very mild and there could be a spell of heavy rain around Monday night into Tuesday moving up from the south; highs will continue to be in a range of 12 to 15 C, and nights also quite mild. Some much colder air will be moving down across northern Scotland towards the ocean region to the northwest of Connacht, and some of this may filter into parts of Ireland at times by about a week from now; this may persist for a day or two before strong storms from the Atlantic drive milder air back in with heavy rainfalls and strong winds.

My local weather was overcast with a little drizzle at times, and low cloud ceilings obscuring the local hills. Highs were around 5 C. I will travelling to the coast (650 kms on the road) for a family visit the next four days, hoping to have some time to maintain the forecasts but would not rule out a brief interruption especially towards the return portion of the trip mid-week.

Saturday, 8 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … Mild with rain at times, turning colder in stages towards Friday of next week.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will bring increasing cloud followed by rain, but staying dry most of the morning in many areas. Highs 12 to 15 C.

TONIGHT rain heavy at times, mist and fog, lows near 10 C.

SUNDAY rain becoming showery before ending for a time, a few brighter intervals, highs near 12 C.

MONDAY fog and mist, rain spreading in from southwest, moderate southerly winds 40 to 70 km/hr by afternoon and evening, lows near 8 C and highs near 13 C.

TUESDAY rain heavy at times, temperatures steady 12 to 14 C.

WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY partly cloudy to overcast, some further light rain, temperatures near 10 C.

FRIDAY into weekend of 15-16 NOV … Moderate confidence in a colder turn for several days as northeast to north winds arrive, some persistent cold rain may occur in southeast as this colder air will not push very far beyond the Irish Sea. Sleety falls are possible over higher parts of north and west as temperatures fall off to the range of 2 to 6 C.

It would likely return to this current pattern of very mild and moist for some time after the colder spell comes and goes.

My local weather was a travel day with mostly sunny skies to near the coast then cloudy, but dry, and temperatures were generally in a range of 4 to 7 C. Will be at the coast now for several days.

Sunday, 9 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

Briefly, little change in yesterday's forecast outlook. It will stay quite mild until around late Thursday (north) into mid-day Friday (south) before colder air is able to push in from the northeast. While today and tomorrow will be relatively free from heavy rainfalls, some widespread light falls are likely. Heavier rains will arrive Tuesday, and a second round of moderate rain could follow as low pressure circles around to the west of Ireland. When this circle is completed and the low weakens and drifts away to the east, the path will finally be clear for colder air to spread in.

Temperatures will continue to be above average to Thursday with highs each day about 12 to 14 C, and nights generally quite mild also. Temperatures are expected to fall steadily by Friday to a lower range from slightly below freezing at night to 6 - 9 C daytime hours, for about three days. By about Tuesday 18th, this colder spell may abruptly give way to a resumption of mild and wet weather as the jet stream buckles and returns to a track to the north of Ireland.

I will keep posting some general outlooks like this until my semi-vacation is over unless I see more active weather that needs more detailed forecasts. It was partly cloudy and pleasantly mild here in the Vancouver BC area on Saturday (12 C) and is expected to be even milder on Sunday (15 C). Meanwhile, much colder air is setting up over the Great Lakes region and Midwest to eastern prairies.

Monday, 10 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

This week will remain mild and will become quite wet tonight and Tuesday, and again on Thursday, with just some lighter rain in between these events on Wednesday. During the Thursday rainfall, winds will slowly back from southeast to northeast allowing somewhat colder air to infiltrate at least the northern half of Ireland and eventually some drop in temperature is likely in the south as well, but any colder spell may not last too long before more Atlantic storms push back and turn winds back to southerly. Some of these later storms could prove to be quite strong.

Temperatures will be generally 12 to 15 C now to Thursday, with only slight drops at night. Today there will be a gradual increase in cloud followed by rain spreading north tonight. This rain will become quite heavy on Tuesday, 25 to 40 mm could fall in some areas. Temperatures will remain around 12 to 14 C. Wednesday will be a bit brighter and could edge up close to 15 C as a result. Then in a steady rain and east winds, Thursday will be around 10 or 11 C, falling off to near 7 C across the north. A few colder days are possible after that before it's back to mild weather the following week.

My local weather (at the coast still) was very mild with morning sun and afternoon cloud, followed by some heavy rain in the evening. It was close to 15 C during the day. But in the Great Lakes region, heavy snow fell in some areas, notably South Bend, Indiana.

Tuesday, 11 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

Last day of my semi-vacation so I will return to a more detailed forecast soon. The heavy rain now falling across a large portion of Ireland will drift further north before tapering off to showers later today, but not until totals of 25 to 45 mm have fallen, likely causing some local flooding problems in areas of poor drainage. Tomorrow will see another round of more moderate rainfall (8-15 mm likely). Thursday is now looking like a pause in the rain train before another surge of heavier rain moves up from the south by Friday morning. As that happens, moderate southeast winds will slowly back to east-northeast. Somewhat cooler air will filter into the northern counties (6-9 C) but temperatures in the south will stay in the range 12 to 14 C most of the week before falling off slowly on the weekend. A drier, cooler regime will set in for several days (to about mid-week of next week) and then it will be back to mild and occasionally wet weather.

My local weather (still in Vancouver BC) on Monday was partly cloudy and mild, not much rain in the area by mid-morning and highs near 12 C. Expecting a pleasant day for our return home on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Wednesday, 12 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … The mild, wet regime will gradually transition to a cooler, drier interval lasting from Friday in the north, Saturday elsewhere, to about Thursday of the following week. After that it will turn milder again but perhaps staying relatively dry.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will begin with some bright intervals as cloud gradually spreads north followed by outbreaks of rain, 7 to 12 mm can be expected. Highs 12 to 15 C.

TONIGHT further rain tapering off to drizzle and fog, lows near 8 C.

THURSDAY intervals of cloud and sunshine, isolated showers. Highs 11 to 13 C.

FRIDAY rain will become rather heavy across parts of the south, and a steady light rain will extend further north; parts of Ulster will have longer dry intervals as it turns cooler there. Lows 4 to 7 C and highs near 11 C except 7 to 9 C in parts of the north.

From WEEKEND to mid-week, cooler and generally dry, with at least some sunshine each day, sometimes longer intervals. Nights will be considerably cooler than in these first two weeks of November, with slight frosts developing inland. Daytime temperatures will be around 8 to 10 C except closer to 12 C in some sheltered coastal locations in the south and west. In fact it may turn slightly cooler again around Tuesday as a stronger northerly flow replaces a moderate northeast breeze in the first stages of this cooler spell.

It appears that the cool spell will yield fairly quickly to milder but still rather dry air masses from the west-northwest, and that regime could involve a brief return to colder temperatures as high pressure promoting the mild flow backs off to the west briefly. So, while the first two weeks will establish the possibility of a record mild November, the second half may be just a little too cool on average to allow that outcome, although it won't turn bitterly cold like it did in 2010 after a rather mild first half.

My travel weather on return to home base on Tuesday was sunny with high cloud for the first half, then some lower cloud ceilings resulted in localized fog at higher elevations. Temperatures were around 10 C at first, then closer to 5 C. North America is seeing a widespread bright display of the northern lights due to a strong geomagnetic storm, but we are overcast here (some nearby places are clear so I will be checking the skies again before giving up). The aurora can be seen as far south as Utah which is quite unusual. I hope this keeps up long enough for Ireland to see the display tonight if skies in some areas clear up.

Thursday, 13 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … The long-lasting mild spell will gradually transition to a cooler regime, turning dry for a few days once the last of Friday's persistent rain drifts away from the south on Saturday morning. The first portion of a cooler interval will be slightly below average, then a few days of quite cold temperatures is foreseen for later next week, before a return to quite mild weather takes place towards the final week of November.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will bring some dry, partly cloudy conditions to many parts of the country, while areas of rain die out gradually over the north and near the southwest coast. Highs 12 to 15 C.

TONIGHT variable cloud, a few showers, more persistent rain moving into the south coast towards morning. Lows 4 to 7 C.

FRIDAY outbreaks of rain may become rather heavy near the inland south higher elevations in particular. Further north an intermittent light rain is more likely. Colder air will seep into the north bringing temperatures near 8 or 9 C there. It will stay a bit milder further south, 11 to 13 C. Winds will be moderate easterly 40 to 70 km/hr, feeling raw near east coast.

SATURDAY any rain still ongoing by daybreak will taper off to light showers by mid-day as much of the country dries out in a light to moderate northeast wind. Some sunny intervals will follow, lows of 3 to 7 C will be followed by highs near 10 C.

SUNDAY variable cloud, isolated showers, lows -1 to +3 C and highs 8 to 10 C.

MONDAY and TUESDAY will continue rather cool with generally dry conditions apart from some light showers in Ulster in a northeast breeze; lows -1 to +3 C and highs 8 to 10 C.

By WEDNESDAY into THURSDAY of next week, colder with northerly winds, wintry showers on higher ground and hail showers possible lower down, lows -2 to +2 C and highs 4 to 7 C.

This somewhat wintry scenario will be brief and fairly moderate compared to harsh wintry conditions of Nov 2010. Even so, a few higher elevations could develop a brief snow cover. A much milder westerly flow will follow within two or three days and the last week of November could be almost as mild as the recent interval, albeit with less rain (although mostly cloudy and sometimes damp or drizzly).

My local weather on Wednesday was cold and wet at least until early afternoon when the rain stopped falling. The high was around 5 C. So far no luck with clearing skies locally, while many across North America are seeing bright displays of the aurora borealis for a second night. The weak disturbance in our region is moving east to become a more powerful low bringing a surge of very mild air north into the northern plains and southern prairies; temperatures there will be 15 to 20 degrees above normal for a couple of days.

I am working on a winter forecast and will reveal that tomorrow in the forecast message.

Friday, 14 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … The mild, wet spell is about to end and will be replaced by seasonably cool and mostly dry weather from mid-day Saturday to Tuesday, then colder, showery conditions for a few days. It will then turn milder again about a week from tomorrow.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be overcast with rain in most areas, partly cloudy, breezy with isolated showers in the far north. The rain will be a little heavier in parts of the east and south, 7 to 15 mm is expected. Winds easterly 40 to 70 km/hr will give a rather raw feel to the day especially near the east coast. Highs 7 to 10 C in the north, 10 to 12 C central and 12 to 14 C south.

TONIGHT further outbreaks of light rain, moderate northeast winds, lows 5 to 8 C.

SATURDAY rain tapering to showers over parts of the country, leading to a dry and partly cloudy to overcast afternoon. Rather cool, highs 8 to 11 C.

SUNDAY variable cloud, isolated showers, lows 3 to 7 C and highs 9 to 12 C.

MONDAY partly cloudy, slight frosts in the morning, lows -1 to +3 C, highs 9 to 12 C.

TUESDAY increasing cloud, winds backing to northerly, showers of hail or sleet on higher ground, lows near 4 C and highs 7 to 9 C.

WEDNESDAY to FRIDAY 21st will likely stay rather cold, with cold and sleety showers more frequent in northern counties. Lows 1 to 4 C and highs 7 to 9 C. Some areas may see moderation by Friday afternoon and evening, then it will turn quite mild for several days, becoming more variable later in the month.

My local weather was overcast with rain, and a bit milder, near 8 C.

WINTER OUTLOOK _ I have taken a look at global patterns and some research data, and come to the conclusion that the winter of 2025-26 could be a relatively active one for Ireland and Britain, with some episodes of wintry cold and snow. There will also be intervals of milder conditions, and some dry periods in the mix. One or two severe storms are likely, as the jet stream is going to be raging across the sectors to the west (North America and west-central Atlantic). So the overall conclusion is that there will be a mixture of different types of weather during the winter, but perhaps a little more truly wintry episodes than has been typical of most recent winters. At the same time, there is probably little chance of a severe winter in general, but it may be rated in the category of moderately severe.
