Tuesday, 4 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... cloudy and very mild, occasional rain will be heavy at times, some fog and mist, and a few brighter spells developing towards the weekend. Somewhat more settled the following week and staying quite mild.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be mostly cloudy with intervals of heavy rain in south and central Leinster moving towards east Ulster, 20-35 mm could fall in some places leading to minor flooding. Other areas will be more showery and could see brief brighter spells. Mild with highs 13 to 16 C.
TONIGHT foggy with rain and drizzle, becoming heavy in the south towards morning. Lows 11 to 13 C.
WEDNESDAY rain mostly in western counties will taper off to drizzle, and there could be a few brighter spells by afternoon, mild with highs near 15 C.
THURSDAY variable cloud, some rain and drizzle at times, lows near 9 C and highs near 14 C.
FRIDAY partly cloudy to overcast, showers, lows near 8 C and highs near 13 C.
SATURDAY misty or foggy with mid-day clearing and some afternoon sunshine, mild. Lows near 7 C and highs near 13 C.
SUNDAY outbreaks of rain, lows near 8 C and highs near 13 C.
MONDAY partly cloudy and mild, then next TUESDAY occasional rain, both days highs near 12 C. From mid-week on (next week) it could be a bit drier as high pressure builds in from the east, but temperatures would likely stay fairly mild.

My local weather on Monday was overcast with highs near 9 C. A powerful storm system is forming now to the south of Nova Scotia and will slam into southeastern Newfoundland by late morning into the afternoon local time (around 1500h to 1900h). Hurricane force wind gusts are possible as this deepens very rapidly to 945 mbs.

Wednesday, 5 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Very mild and mostly cloudy, foggy or misty at times, occasional rain ... turning somewhat colder next week at least in parts of the north and west, a dry interval followed by milder weather again.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be cloudy with a few afternoon sunny breaks, very mild with outbreaks of rain moving north, heaviest in the north central counties and central Ulster. Highs 14 to 16 C,
TONIGHT will be overcast with mist and fog, some light rain or drizzle, lows 10 to 13 C.
THURSDAY foggy to start, some light rain or drizzle. Brighter spells may develop although further outbreaks of light rain will continue especially in parts of the south and east. Highs 12 to 15 C.
FRIDAY variable cloud, showers, mild. Lows near 8 C and highs 12 to 14 C.
SATURDAY variable cloud, showers, lows near 7 C and highs 11 to 13 C.
Little change into the first part of next week as weak disturbances continue to drift north in a slack southerly flow. Fog could become quite persistent in places. Temperatures will fall of slightly to around 10 or 11 C. Somewhat colder air will begin to push in from the north by Tuesday into Wednesday (12th), and it could drop the temperatures in Connacht and Ulster into a range of 6 to 9 C while staying closer to 10-12 C in the rest of the country.

My local weather on Tuesday was sunny with cloudy intervals, more overcast by mid-afternoon and evening. It was a bit milder with highs near 10 C. A strong windstorm travelled across southeast Newfoundland, remnants of that will be off the west coast of Ireland by about Friday but it will be dying off by then. Another energetic low is forming over the Great Lakes, and will pull in arctic air rushing southeast to bring gusty winds to the east coast of the U.S. by early Thursday (local time). Another low will follow on the weekend ushering in near-record cold air masses for an early blast of wintry snow squalls over the Great Lakes.

Thursday, 6 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Cloudy and very mild with occasional rain for most of the coming seven days, any changes in this pattern will be small and slow to develop. In general, it will not be quite as wet as it has been recently, but with a lot of fog and mist it will often be damp.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will bring a few brighter intervals as rain will be patchy in coverage and mostly confined to some coastal areas. Fog or mist may be slow to clear at first however. Mild with highs 13 to 15 C.
TONIGHT overcast with rain or drizzle at times, lows near 10 C.
FRIDAY overcast, rain becoming a bit heavier at times especially over western counties. Highs 13 to 15 C.
SATURDAY to MONDAY each day will be partly cloudy to overcast with a little rain at times, lows near 9 C and highs 12 to 14 C.
After that, little change in the pattern through next week.

My local weather on Wednesday was overcast and foggy with light rain most of the day (snow a little higher up in nearby mountains), and cold with highs of 4 or 5 C.

Friday, 7 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Mostly cloudy, occasional rain and very mild with some persistent fog and mist at times.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will bring some bursts of heavy rain through Munster into the midlands and later into Ulster, some places could see 10-15 mm, but probably a bit less in much of the southeast and in Connacht. Any brighter spells later on could be quite warm (yesterday it was 17 deg and sunny at mid-day in the Dublin region). Highs today generally 13 to 16 C.
TONIGHT a few remnant showers, mist and fog, lows near 8 C.
SATURDAY partly cloudy to overcast to start, rain moving through the south later and then into central counties. Highs 12 to 14 C.
SUNDAY variable cloud, mist and fog with occasional rain and a few brighter spells also, lows 5 to 8 C and highs 12 to 14 C.
From MONDAY to about THURSDAY it will continue very mild and there could be a spell of heavy rain around Monday night into Tuesday moving up from the south; highs will continue to be in a range of 12 to 15 C, and nights also quite mild. Some much colder air will be moving down across northern Scotland towards the ocean region to the northwest of Connacht, and some of this may filter into parts of Ireland at times by about a week from now; this may persist for a day or two before strong storms from the Atlantic drive milder air back in with heavy rainfalls and strong winds.

My local weather was overcast with a little drizzle at times, and low cloud ceilings obscuring the local hills. Highs were around 5 C. I will travelling to the coast (650 kms on the road) for a family visit the next four days, hoping to have some time to maintain the forecasts but would not rule out a brief interruption especially towards the return portion of the trip mid-week.

Saturday, 8 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … Mild with rain at times, turning colder in stages towards Friday of next week.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will bring increasing cloud followed by rain, but staying dry most of the morning in many areas. Highs 12 to 15 C.

TONIGHT rain heavy at times, mist and fog, lows near 10 C.

SUNDAY rain becoming showery before ending for a time, a few brighter intervals, highs near 12 C.

MONDAY fog and mist, rain spreading in from southwest, moderate southerly winds 40 to 70 km/hr by afternoon and evening, lows near 8 C and highs near 13 C.

TUESDAY rain heavy at times, temperatures steady 12 to 14 C.

WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY partly cloudy to overcast, some further light rain, temperatures near 10 C.

FRIDAY into weekend of 15-16 NOV … Moderate confidence in a colder turn for several days as northeast to north winds arrive, some persistent cold rain may occur in southeast as this colder air will not push very far beyond the Irish Sea. Sleety falls are possible over higher parts of north and west as temperatures fall off to the range of 2 to 6 C.

It would likely return to this current pattern of very mild and moist for some time after the colder spell comes and goes.

My local weather was a travel day with mostly sunny skies to near the coast then cloudy, but dry, and temperatures were generally in a range of 4 to 7 C. Will be at the coast now for several days.

Sunday, 9 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

Briefly, little change in yesterday's forecast outlook. It will stay quite mild until around late Thursday (north) into mid-day Friday (south) before colder air is able to push in from the northeast. While today and tomorrow will be relatively free from heavy rainfalls, some widespread light falls are likely. Heavier rains will arrive Tuesday, and a second round of moderate rain could follow as low pressure circles around to the west of Ireland. When this circle is completed and the low weakens and drifts away to the east, the path will finally be clear for colder air to spread in.

Temperatures will continue to be above average to Thursday with highs each day about 12 to 14 C, and nights generally quite mild also. Temperatures are expected to fall steadily by Friday to a lower range from slightly below freezing at night to 6 - 9 C daytime hours, for about three days. By about Tuesday 18th, this colder spell may abruptly give way to a resumption of mild and wet weather as the jet stream buckles and returns to a track to the north of Ireland.

I will keep posting some general outlooks like this until my semi-vacation is over unless I see more active weather that needs more detailed forecasts. It was partly cloudy and pleasantly mild here in the Vancouver BC area on Saturday (12 C) and is expected to be even milder on Sunday (15 C). Meanwhile, much colder air is setting up over the Great Lakes region and Midwest to eastern prairies.

Monday, 10 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

This week will remain mild and will become quite wet tonight and Tuesday, and again on Thursday, with just some lighter rain in between these events on Wednesday. During the Thursday rainfall, winds will slowly back from southeast to northeast allowing somewhat colder air to infiltrate at least the northern half of Ireland and eventually some drop in temperature is likely in the south as well, but any colder spell may not last too long before more Atlantic storms push back and turn winds back to southerly. Some of these later storms could prove to be quite strong.

Temperatures will be generally 12 to 15 C now to Thursday, with only slight drops at night. Today there will be a gradual increase in cloud followed by rain spreading north tonight. This rain will become quite heavy on Tuesday, 25 to 40 mm could fall in some areas. Temperatures will remain around 12 to 14 C. Wednesday will be a bit brighter and could edge up close to 15 C as a result. Then in a steady rain and east winds, Thursday will be around 10 or 11 C, falling off to near 7 C across the north. A few colder days are possible after that before it's back to mild weather the following week.

My local weather (at the coast still) was very mild with morning sun and afternoon cloud, followed by some heavy rain in the evening. It was close to 15 C during the day. But in the Great Lakes region, heavy snow fell in some areas, notably South Bend, Indiana.

Tuesday, 11 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

Last day of my semi-vacation so I will return to a more detailed forecast soon. The heavy rain now falling across a large portion of Ireland will drift further north before tapering off to showers later today, but not until totals of 25 to 45 mm have fallen, likely causing some local flooding problems in areas of poor drainage. Tomorrow will see another round of more moderate rainfall (8-15 mm likely). Thursday is now looking like a pause in the rain train before another surge of heavier rain moves up from the south by Friday morning. As that happens, moderate southeast winds will slowly back to east-northeast. Somewhat cooler air will filter into the northern counties (6-9 C) but temperatures in the south will stay in the range 12 to 14 C most of the week before falling off slowly on the weekend. A drier, cooler regime will set in for several days (to about mid-week of next week) and then it will be back to mild and occasionally wet weather.

My local weather (still in Vancouver BC) on Monday was partly cloudy and mild, not much rain in the area by mid-morning and highs near 12 C. Expecting a pleasant day for our return home on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Wednesday, 12 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … The mild, wet regime will gradually transition to a cooler, drier interval lasting from Friday in the north, Saturday elsewhere, to about Thursday of the following week. After that it will turn milder again but perhaps staying relatively dry.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will begin with some bright intervals as cloud gradually spreads north followed by outbreaks of rain, 7 to 12 mm can be expected. Highs 12 to 15 C.

TONIGHT further rain tapering off to drizzle and fog, lows near 8 C.

THURSDAY intervals of cloud and sunshine, isolated showers. Highs 11 to 13 C.

FRIDAY rain will become rather heavy across parts of the south, and a steady light rain will extend further north; parts of Ulster will have longer dry intervals as it turns cooler there. Lows 4 to 7 C and highs near 11 C except 7 to 9 C in parts of the north.

From WEEKEND to mid-week, cooler and generally dry, with at least some sunshine each day, sometimes longer intervals. Nights will be considerably cooler than in these first two weeks of November, with slight frosts developing inland. Daytime temperatures will be around 8 to 10 C except closer to 12 C in some sheltered coastal locations in the south and west. In fact it may turn slightly cooler again around Tuesday as a stronger northerly flow replaces a moderate northeast breeze in the first stages of this cooler spell.

It appears that the cool spell will yield fairly quickly to milder but still rather dry air masses from the west-northwest, and that regime could involve a brief return to colder temperatures as high pressure promoting the mild flow backs off to the west briefly. So, while the first two weeks will establish the possibility of a record mild November, the second half may be just a little too cool on average to allow that outcome, although it won't turn bitterly cold like it did in 2010 after a rather mild first half.

My travel weather on return to home base on Tuesday was sunny with high cloud for the first half, then some lower cloud ceilings resulted in localized fog at higher elevations. Temperatures were around 10 C at first, then closer to 5 C. North America is seeing a widespread bright display of the northern lights due to a strong geomagnetic storm, but we are overcast here (some nearby places are clear so I will be checking the skies again before giving up). The aurora can be seen as far south as Utah which is quite unusual. I hope this keeps up long enough for Ireland to see the display tonight if skies in some areas clear up.

Thursday, 13 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … The long-lasting mild spell will gradually transition to a cooler regime, turning dry for a few days once the last of Friday's persistent rain drifts away from the south on Saturday morning. The first portion of a cooler interval will be slightly below average, then a few days of quite cold temperatures is foreseen for later next week, before a return to quite mild weather takes place towards the final week of November.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will bring some dry, partly cloudy conditions to many parts of the country, while areas of rain die out gradually over the north and near the southwest coast. Highs 12 to 15 C.

TONIGHT variable cloud, a few showers, more persistent rain moving into the south coast towards morning. Lows 4 to 7 C.

FRIDAY outbreaks of rain may become rather heavy near the inland south higher elevations in particular. Further north an intermittent light rain is more likely. Colder air will seep into the north bringing temperatures near 8 or 9 C there. It will stay a bit milder further south, 11 to 13 C. Winds will be moderate easterly 40 to 70 km/hr, feeling raw near east coast.

SATURDAY any rain still ongoing by daybreak will taper off to light showers by mid-day as much of the country dries out in a light to moderate northeast wind. Some sunny intervals will follow, lows of 3 to 7 C will be followed by highs near 10 C.

SUNDAY variable cloud, isolated showers, lows -1 to +3 C and highs 8 to 10 C.

MONDAY and TUESDAY will continue rather cool with generally dry conditions apart from some light showers in Ulster in a northeast breeze; lows -1 to +3 C and highs 8 to 10 C.

By WEDNESDAY into THURSDAY of next week, colder with northerly winds, wintry showers on higher ground and hail showers possible lower down, lows -2 to +2 C and highs 4 to 7 C.

This somewhat wintry scenario will be brief and fairly moderate compared to harsh wintry conditions of Nov 2010. Even so, a few higher elevations could develop a brief snow cover. A much milder westerly flow will follow within two or three days and the last week of November could be almost as mild as the recent interval, albeit with less rain (although mostly cloudy and sometimes damp or drizzly).

My local weather on Wednesday was cold and wet at least until early afternoon when the rain stopped falling. The high was around 5 C. So far no luck with clearing skies locally, while many across North America are seeing bright displays of the aurora borealis for a second night. The weak disturbance in our region is moving east to become a more powerful low bringing a surge of very mild air north into the northern plains and southern prairies; temperatures there will be 15 to 20 degrees above normal for a couple of days.

I am working on a winter forecast and will reveal that tomorrow in the forecast message.

Friday, 14 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … The mild, wet spell is about to end and will be replaced by seasonably cool and mostly dry weather from mid-day Saturday to Tuesday, then colder, showery conditions for a few days. It will then turn milder again about a week from tomorrow.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be overcast with rain in most areas, partly cloudy, breezy with isolated showers in the far north. The rain will be a little heavier in parts of the east and south, 7 to 15 mm is expected. Winds easterly 40 to 70 km/hr will give a rather raw feel to the day especially near the east coast. Highs 7 to 10 C in the north, 10 to 12 C central and 12 to 14 C south.

TONIGHT further outbreaks of light rain, moderate northeast winds, lows 5 to 8 C.

SATURDAY rain tapering to showers over parts of the country, leading to a dry and partly cloudy to overcast afternoon. Rather cool, highs 8 to 11 C.

SUNDAY variable cloud, isolated showers, lows 3 to 7 C and highs 9 to 12 C.

MONDAY partly cloudy, slight frosts in the morning, lows -1 to +3 C, highs 9 to 12 C.

TUESDAY increasing cloud, winds backing to northerly, showers of hail or sleet on higher ground, lows near 4 C and highs 7 to 9 C.

WEDNESDAY to FRIDAY 21st will likely stay rather cold, with cold and sleety showers more frequent in northern counties. Lows 1 to 4 C and highs 7 to 9 C. Some areas may see moderation by Friday afternoon and evening, then it will turn quite mild for several days, becoming more variable later in the month.

My local weather was overcast with rain, and a bit milder, near 8 C.

WINTER OUTLOOK _ I have taken a look at global patterns and some research data, and come to the conclusion that the winter of 2025-26 could be a relatively active one for Ireland and Britain, with some episodes of wintry cold and snow. There will also be intervals of milder conditions, and some dry periods in the mix. One or two severe storms are likely, as the jet stream is going to be raging across the sectors to the west (North America and west-central Atlantic). So the overall conclusion is that there will be a mixture of different types of weather during the winter, but perhaps a little more truly wintry episodes than has been typical of most recent winters. At the same time, there is probably little chance of a severe winter in general, but it may be rated in the category of moderately severe.

Saturday, 15 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... After the rain ends this morning across southern and central counties, it will be partly cloudy and seasonably cool for a few days, turning colder in stages Tuesday and Wednesday. A few wintry showers can not be ruled out in cold northerly winds, but this colder spell will only last a few days before milder air returns by about Friday.

    FORECASTS

TODAY a few showers remain over parts of the east and south, but these will gradually dissipate and the strong east to northeast winds will moderate by afternoon, with highs 9 to 13 C.
TONIGHT partly cloudy, cold, lows 1 to 4 C, some scattered ground frost possible well inland.
SUNDAY partly cloudy, moderate northeast breezes but a fairly pleasant day after the strong winds and rain of recent days; highs 8 to 12 C.
MONDAY increasing cloud, showers moving into northern counties by late afternoon and evening, lows -1 to +3 C and highs 8 to 12 C.
TUESDAY breezy to windy and colder with showers becoming rather wintry over higher parts of the north, cold rain or hail showers elsewhere, winds northwest to north 40 to 70 km/hr, especially brisk near the northwest coast. Lows 3 to 7 C and highs 6 to 9 C.
WEDNESDAY rather breezy and cold with passing showers, some wintry on higher terrain. Winds northerly 40 to 60 km/hr. Lows -1 to +3 C and highs 6 to 9 C.
THURSDAY cloudy with outbreaks of light rain, possibly sleet on northern hills at first, slowly moderating temperatures to around 7 to 11 C.
FRIDAY variable cloud, showers, milder, lows near 5 C and highs near 12 C.
WEEKEND of 22nd-23rd will become quite windy with temperatures falling back gradually after a peak is reached Friday night into Saturday morning. West to northwest winds will bring in some colder air and temperatures will fall back from near 12 C to the 5 to 8 C range. But after that it seems likely to turn a bit milder again and the last week of November will be somewhat settled with temperatures not far from 10 C.

My local weather on Friday was cool with low cloud, fog and rain, temperatures steady near 5 or 6 C. Much milder air moved into the central regions of North America, ranging from near 15 C in the eastern prairies to 25 C in the central plains states. These readings are 10 to 15 C deg above normal for mid-November.

Sunday, 16 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Today and Monday will be partly cloudy and seasonably cool, turning colder in stages Tuesday and Wednesday. A few wintry showers can not be ruled out in cold northerly winds, quite strong near Atlantic coasts, but this colder spell will only last a few days before milder air returns by about Friday.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy, with moderate northeast breezes and it will be a relatively pleasant day after the strong winds and rain of recent days; highs 8 to 12 C.
TONIGHT clear intervals and quite cold, local frosts possible inland, lows -2 to +3 C.
MONDAY increasing cloud, showers moving into northern counties by late afternoon and evening, and highs 8 to 12 C.
TUESDAY breezy to windy and colder with showers becoming rather wintry over higher parts of the north, cold rain or hail showers elsewhere, winds northwest to north 40 to 70 km/hr, especially brisk near the northwest coast by evening. Lows 3 to 7 C and highs 6 to 9 C.
WEDNESDAY windy and cold with passing showers, some wintry on higher terrain. Winds northerly 40 to 60 km/hr except 60 to 90 km/hr near Atlantic coasts and in higher terrain.
Strong southwest winds will develop by Friday night and temperatures will remain 10 to 12 C overnight.
SATURDAY windy and turning cooler in westerly winds 70 to 110 km/hr, temperatures gradually falling from near 12 C to afternoon and evening values of 3 to 7 C. By SUNDAY 23rd, milder air will already be returning once again on strong southwest winds accompanied by rain. The rest of the week will continue variable with frequent temperature oscillations.

My local weather on Saturday was foggy and mild with a bit of light rain but the main feature was near zero visibility especially between 800 and 1200 meters elevation, while below that the visibility improved to 3 kms. Temperatures were near 10 C. Very mild conditions moved a bit further east towards the Ohio valley and southeastern states.

Monday, 17 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Turning colder with wintry showers entering the picture by later Tuesday. Briefly milder on Friday, but the weekend will start out chilly as well. Then milder by Sunday and staying quite mild in the last week of November.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be sunny with increasing cloud from north to south, followed by a few light showers by evening. Some sleety or icy conditions could develop in parts of the central counties towards evening. Highs 8 to 10 C.
TONIGHT quite cold at first across central and southern counties, as thicker cloud further north keeps temperatures there a bit higher. Becoming rather breezy (northerly 30-50 km/hr) with wintry showers developing in parts of Ulster and Connacht. Lows -1 to +4 C.
TUESDAY will bring cold rain showers, some turning to hail or sleet, and moderate northerly winds 40 to 60 km/hr adding a chill factor to highs of around 5 or 6 C.
WEDNESDAY variable cloud, rather windy and cold with passing wintry showers. Some snow could accumulate on hills especially in north Connacht and west Ulster. Winds northerly 50 to 70 km/hr, lows -2 to +3 C and highs 4 to 7 C.
THURSDAY variable cloud, some heavy wintry showers at first, especially in western counties, before winds back from northerly towards the west, so turning slightly milder by afternoon, lows -2 to +3 C and highs 5 to 9 C.
FRIDAY overcast with occasional rain that could start as wet snow or sleet on high ground in the north and east. Milder by mid-day, with highs reaching 10 to 12 C.
SATURDAY windy and colder with passing showers, some with hail or sleet, temperatures near 8 C at first but falling to 4-6 C later.
SUNDAY variable cloud and milder in stages, rain may return by evening. Highs reaching 10 C late in the day after a rather chilly start with some frost possible.
Most of the following week will be mild with fog or mist at times, occasional rain although not too heavy, highs 9 to 12 C.

My local weather on Sunday was once again quite foggy and mild with highs near 10 C.

Tuesday, 18 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Colder for several days with risk of wintry showers over higher parts of the north and west. Somewhat milder by the weekend, occasional rain through Monday. Dry and mild mid-week (from 25th to 27th) and more rain after that.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be mostly cloudy with a few brief sunny breaks in the south and east, and it will become quite windy by afternoon especially near Atlantic coasts where northwest winds of 50 to 80 km/hr are likely. Passing showers will become sleety or wintry on higher terrain by afternoon and evening; feeling quite cold in the wind. Highs 6 to 9 C.
TONIGHT will be partly cloudy to overcast, windy and quite cold with passing wintry showers. Some snow could accumulate in higher parts of north Connacht and west Ulster. Lows -1 to +3 C.
WEDNESDAY variable cloud and passing wintry showers, some heavy snow showers could develop over higher parts of the north. Winds north-northwest 50 to 80 km/hr adding a chill to highs of only 3 to 7 C.
THURSDAY variable cloud, further wintry showers, feeling a bit milder by afternoon and evening as winds back to westerly. Lows -2 to +3 C and highs 4 to 9 C.
FRIDAY mostly cloudy, sleet turning to rain except over higher parts of the north where a mix of rain and snow could continue. Lows near 2 C and highs near 9 C (10 to 12 C south coast).
SATURDAY clearing and cooler again with isolated wintry showers, lows near 2 C and highs near 7 C.
SUNDAY-MONDAY a little uncertain on details as a fairly strong low could head towards southeast Ireland. Some guidance keeps it far enough south that most places will have dry weather and near average temperatures, but other guidance runs this low close to Wexford and into central Britain, which could lead to a cold wind-driven rain in the southeast.
In any case once this low pulls further away by Tuesday, several days of cool, dry weather will follow, gradually warming to milder temperatures by about the end of the week and then rain will return near the end of November.

My local weather featured a little more fog and quite mild temperatures near 12 C, with the fog being more of a problem higher up by afternoon.

Wednesday, 19 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Cold with a few wintry showers and rather windy at times, slightly milder for the weekend, then more wind and cold rain showers (snow possible at higher elevations) by Monday before a more tranquil interval begins with a slow warming trend towards end of November when it could turn quite unsettled.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be windy and cold with passing wintry showers, and a mixture of cloud and sun. Strongest winds will occur near coasts and for a while this morning, black ice could appear on some secondary roads inland, especially close to open water like streams or ponds. There could also be locally dense fog patches in sheltered valleys. Highs 4 to 8 C, winds north-northwest 50 to 80 km/hr in exposed locations. There may be some accumulating snow on higher portions of north Connacht and west/central Ulster.
TONIGHT partly cloudy, a few more wintry showers likely, frost in sheltered valleys and more black ice problems in the morning, lows -2 to +3 C.
THURSDAY breezy and cold with further wintry showers but feeling a bit milder by afternoon as winds drop off somewhat and back to a westerly direction; highs 5 to 9 C.
FRIDAY cloudy with sleet or wet snow over some northern counties at first, a cold rain elsewhere, turning a little milder by mid-day and afternoon, lows 1 to 4 C and highs 7 to 10 C.
SATURDAY breezy and rather cold with a few showers, lows near 4 C and highs near 8 C.
SUNDAY becoming quite windy from early morning to mid-day, winds west to northwest 60 to 90 km/hr. Some bands of cold rain or hail showers are likely while other locations remain largely dry. Lows near 5 C and highs near 7 C.
MONDAY windy and cold with sleet or rain, temperatures steady 4 or 5 C. Winds backing to north-northeast 50 to 80 km/hr.
TUESDAY winds moderating and some sunshine by afternoon, as any remnant precipitation moves south and east, lows near 2 C and highs near 7 C.
A little milder at least during the daytime hours for the rest of the week, a brief quiet interval possibly including some fog, then mild and windy with rain by the final weekend of November and potentially turning quite unsettled or even stormy at some point around then or into early December (guidance is a bit scattered on timing as well as intensity of any eventual storm).

My local weather was rather misty again with the dense fog a little higher up the slopes near the lower extremity of lying snow which at this time is near 1300 meters. A few sunny breaks developed and it was pleasantly mild from our location down into the Columbia valley at 11 to 14 C.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy with generous amounts of wintry sunshine in the east and south, passing wintry showers more likely in the north and west. Becoming slightly milder by this afternoon, as northerly winds ease and back to a westerly direction, with highs of 4 to 9 C.
TONIGHT variable cloud, cold, lows near -1 C.
FRIDAY cloudy, rain setting in by mid-day in south and west, reaching other regions by evening. Highs 7 to 10 C.

MONDAY cold and windy with rain mixing with wet snow or sleet on higher terrain, winds northerly 50 to 70 km/hr. Some moderation by afternoon in western counties. Lows near 4 C and highs 5 to 7 C.
TUESDAY to THURSDAY will be milder and relatively dry with some fog in some inland valleys, lows -1 to +3 C and highs 7 to 10 C.
After about FRIDAY 28th it begins to look rather unsettled with possibly quite strong southwest winds at times, temperatures a little above normal by then.

My local weather on Wednesday was cloudy with a high near 7 C.

Friday, 21 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Cold but slowly moderating temperatures over the coming days, some rain at times later today through the weekend, a dry interval next week as it continues to get milder.

ALERT ... There may be patchy ice on some roads this morning again, especially where freezing fog has formed and in parts of the inland northwest when rain begins to fall onto frozen surfaces. This rain will arrive late enough further east that it won't pose the same risk there.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will become mostly cloudy, rain setting in by mid-day in the western counties, reaching other regions by evening. Highs 7 to 10 C except 4 to 7 C in parts of Ulster and north Leinster.
TONIGHT occasional rain with partial clearing later from west to east, lows near 5 C.
SATURDAY rain ending during the morning then variable cloud, showers and breezy, lows near 5 C and highs 8 to 10 C.
SUNDAY becoming rather windy with outbreaks of light rain, winds northwest 40 to 60 km/hr, lows near 4 C and highs near 9 C.
MONDAY cold and windy with rain mixing with wet snow or sleet on higher terrain, winds northerly 50 to 70 km/hr. Some moderation by afternoon in most regions, but sleety mixed precipitation could continue in a few coastal areas. Lows near 4 C and highs 5 to 7 C.
TUESDAY will be less windy and generally dry with cloudy skies and a few breaks allowing brief sunny intervals, lows near 1 C and highs near 8 C.
WEDNESDAY to FRIDAY will turn milder with highs 10 to 13 C, and some rain will return by end of the week. This milder trend will continue into the final weekend of November with stronger westerly winds developing and just a slight drop in temperatures to around 8 C.

My local weather on Thursday was mostly cloudy with highs around 8 C, sunny intervals were brief but welcome.

Saturday, 22 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Rather unsettled through Monday, then turning quite mild and generally dry for several days, strong winds at times.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be breezy with a few intervals of light rain in some areas, also a few brighter spells, highs 8 to 11 C.
TONIGHT windy with squally showers developing, chance of a thunderstorm. Winds increasing to westerly 50 to 80 km/hr. Lows near 7 C,.
SUNDAY windy with squally showers and risk of a thunderstorm. Winds west-northwest 60 to 90 km/hr (80 to 120 km/hr at times near Donegal Bay). Highs 7 to 9 C.
MONDAY windy with rain more confined to a few bands near east coast, sleety on higher terrain. Winds northerly 40 to 70 km/hr. Lows near 4 C and highs 6 to 8 C.
TUESDAY variable cloud, less windy. Lows -1 to +3 C and highs 7 to 10 C.
WEDNESDAY breezy and mild, occasional rain from early morning to mid-day near north coast mainly. Lows near 5 C and highs 11 to 14 C.
THURSDAY to SUNDAY will continue rather mild and breezy, with highs near 11 C and overnight readings well above freezing. Some rain and strong southwest winds at times as fast-moving systems pass to the north.
The pattern going forward looks just a little like December 2015 which was a very mild and wet month, but it may be a little more variable than that month.

My local weather on Friday was overcast and rather foggy with drizzle at times, and highs around 7 C.

Sunday, 23 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Windy with occasional rain the next two days, then a dry and milder interval followed by stronger winds again with rain by about Thursday.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be windy with passing showers, some of them rather squally with thunder possible, especially inland northern counties and midlands. Winds west-northwest 50-80 km/hr but stronger gusts possible near northwest coasts and inland from Donegal Bay. Highs 8 to 11 C.

TONIGHT will continue windy with occasional rain, turning to sleet on higher ground. Rather cold with northerly winds 50 to 80 km/hr, lows 3 to 6 C.

MONDAY windy and cold with bands of rain mostly confined to eastern counties and drying out by afternoon with more frequent sunny intervals spreading east, winds northerly 40-70 km/hr and highs 5 to 8 C.

TUESDAY variable cloud, a few isolated showers, lows -1 to +3 C and highs 7 to 10 C.

WEDNESDAY milder with some fog and mist, any sunshine likely to be confined to parts of the south and east, rain later in the day near northwest coasts. Lows 3 to 7 C and highs 10 to 13 C.

THURSDAY mild with rain and moderate southwest winds, lows near 8 C and highs near 12 C.

FRIDAY to SUNDAY will continue rather mild and unsettled with occasional rain and temperatures not far from 10 C. It also looks quite mild for early to mid December in a relentless southwest flow and occasional strong winds as fronts pass quickly.

My local weather on Saturday was foggy and rather chilly but with temperatures near 5 C the precipitation was rain at our elevation and wet snow a little higher up the slopes.

Monday, 24 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Rather cold at first but turning very mild mid-week, just slightly cooler Friday-Saturday before more very mild conditions return. Rainfalls generally a bit below average and sometimes quite windy.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will become partly cloudy to sunny in many areas, exceptions being west Munster with persistent bands of rain until mid-day, and coastal south Dublin, Wicklow getting outer bands of departing low pressure system until late morning. Brisk north-northwest winds 50 to 70 km/hr, highs 5 to 8 C.

TONIGHT clear intervals, cold, lows -2 to +3 C.

TUESDAY a mixture of cloud and sunshine, isolated showers near Atlantic coasts, highs 7 to 10 C.

WEDNESDAY intervals of rain as it warms up during the early morning, then foggy for a few areas, hazy mild sunshine developing elsewhere, early morning lows 2 to 5 C and highs 11 to 14 C.

THURSDAY very mild with rain developing, lows near 8 C and highs near 14 C. Turning rather windy with slowly falling temperatures by evening.

FRIDAY breezy to windy, a little cooler, passing showers may contain hail and thunder, lows near 4 C and highs 8 to 11 C.

SATURDAY variable cloud, isolated showers, lows near 2 C and highs near 10 C.

SUNDAY-MONDAY quite windy and wet with temperatures increasing again to near 13 C. A very blustery and mild pattern will develop for early to perhaps mid December.

My local weather was back to thick fog and very limited visibility with drizzle and temperatures steady near 4 or 5 C.

Tuesday, 25 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Becoming milder for a few days, then a bit colder again Friday and Saturday, mild and blustery Sunday into Monday. This variable but overall milder than average regime will persist well into December, it appears.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be sunny with cloudy intervals, and a general increase in cloud across western counties by afternoon. Winds generally rather light and highs 8 to 11 C.
TONIGHT clear in the east for part of the evening, allowing temperatures to fall to near 2 C before rising later in the night as south to southwest winds and cloud followed by light rain move across the country.
WEDNESDAY mostly cloudy with some afternoon mild sunny spells, after a bit of light rain during the morning. Highs near 13 C.
THURSDAY becoming more windy and staying quite mild to late afternoon, when a band of rain will move through followed by colder temperatures. Lows near 8 C and highs 12 to 14 C.
FRIDAY windy and cool with passing showers, some with hail and thunder. Some snow could fall on hills in the south by evening as a frontal wave passes to the south. Lows near 4 C and highs 7 to 10 C, around 2 to 4 C by evening.
SATURDAY variable cloud, a few showers with lows 1 to 4 C and highs 7 to 10 C.
SUNDAY windy with rain, milder, highs near 12 C. Winds could be quite strong near Atlantic and south coasts. This disturbance will pass during the first part of Monday with some thunderstorms possible then. Temperatures will fall off slightly after that but the first ten days of December will see more intervals of very blustery and mild conditions in a strong southwesterly flow.

My local weather on Monday was sunny and rather cold, with highs only around 4 C, and it stayed below freezing higher up where there is a slight snow cover (just above our elevation). A disturbance that passed to our north Sunday night gave Calgary a snowfall event on Monday that made a big mess of the local road system and led to numerous accidents, while closing the airport for a while there. The Great Lakes region will be hit by very strong winds and much colder weather soon, with snow squalls over the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday period.

Wednesday, 26 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … Very mild for a couple of days with small amounts of rain, then somewhat colder with stronger winds developing. Another mild, blustery interval will begin Sunday lasting into Monday and then it will turn colder a second time with this two-three day cycle repeating several more times, always with the risk that one of the fast-moving moderately strong disturbances could get a boost of energy and produce brief spells of damaging winds (but this is not yet in the forecast).

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be overcast and mild with fog, drizzle and light rain, some brighter intervals could develop later especially over inland south and midlands. Highs 12 to 14 C.

TONIGHT continued very mild, foggy, drizzly and lows 8 to 10 C.

THURSDAY windy with intervals of rain, becoming quite blustery by late afternoon and evening with slowly falling temperatures by then after highs 13 to 15 C.

FRIDAY windy and a little cooler with bright spells and passing showers, some with hail and thunder. A more organized frontal wave will bring a spell of rain to the southern and central counties by evening. Lows near 5 C and highs near 10 C.

SATURDAY early morning rain and blustery winds near south coast, some sleet possible on higher ground towards dawn, then partial clearing, further showers and moderate westerly winds, lows near 4 C and highs near 9 C.

SUNDAY into MONDAY windy and mild with rain, temperatures rising back into 12-14 C range.

TUESDAY of next week looks colder again with moderate westerly winds but more mild spells will be along at regular intervals for a while.

My local weather on Tuesday included a light snowfall (barely covering the ground) and cold temperatures near -1 C. We are slowly getting into a colder air mass that will make a bit of a push south before heading east and allowing milder Pacific air masses back in to our region.

Thursday, 27 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... An active weather pattern with fast moving frontal systems, some variations in temperature between very mild and closer to average but nothing too wintry expected for at least two weeks or so.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy and misty with a few brief outbreaks of rain followed by about three hours of more persistent rain this afternoon to early evening, very mild with highs 13 to 15 C.

TONIGHT rather windy and gradually turning cooler with a few showers, moderate southwest winds 40 to 60 km/hr, lows near 6 C.
FRIDAY variable cloud, showers and isolated thunderstorms, with some sunny spells, moderate westerly winds 50 to 70 km/hr. Highs 7 to 10 C. Rather cold Friday night and some sleet could mix in at higher elevations for a brief interval.
    SATURDAY variable cloud, a few showers, lows 2 to 5 C and highs 7 to 10 C.
SUNDAY into MONDAY will become windy and temperatures will edge back upward to 13 or 14 C by Sunday night and Monday morning, with occasional rain and eventually some strong southwest winds particularly south of Galway to the south coast, peak gusts near 90 km/hr so not potentially damaging at this point.
TUESDAY will be another cooler day between frontal waves, then another one comes along Wednesday (3rd of December) with wind and rain, temperatures near 8 C Tuesday and near 12 C Wednesday.
This sort of alternating regime of very mild and cooler days with frequent light rain will probably keep going well into December as the jet stream cranks up ahead of much colder air spreading into eastern North America.

My local weather on Wednesday was overcast and misty after the light snow of 2 cm Tuesday; this did not melt away very much as temperatures were around 2 or 3 C but it had not snowed lower down and the cloud ceiling there was higher with temperatures of about 7 C.

Friday, 28 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … Very unsettled in general, temperatures ranging from rather chilly today and tomorrow to very mild later Sunday into Monday, with several more similar cycles, accompanied by moderate to strong winds and frequent rain.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will bring some heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms moving through southern and central counties this morning, followed by variable cloud and further showers, in brisk southwest to west winds 50 to 80 km/hr, some gusts near 110 km/hr on exposed coasts. Temperatures will be steady in a range of 7 to 10 C.

TONIGHT turning quite cold with mixed wintry showers developing on higher terrain, rain or hail showers lower down, and lows 1 to 4 C. It will remain rather windy (west-southwest 40 to 70 km/hr in some more exposed locations).

SATURDAY partly cloudy to overcast, cool with a few showers, highs 7 to 9 C.

SUNDAY turning milder after a slight frost during the early hours, rain by afternoon west, evening east. Lows -1 to +4 C and highs 8 to 12 C.

MONDAY windy and mild with rain, intervals of very strong winds near south coast (southwest 70 to 110 km/hr), lows near 8 C and highs near 13 C.

TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY will be cooler again with mixed wintry showers returning to higher terrain, rain or hail showers lower down, lows 2 to 5 C and highs 6 to 9 C.

After THURSDAY it will turn milder for several days and could become very windy again, with frequent rain, temperatures 9 to 13 C into weekend of 6-7 December.

My local weather on Thursday brought another light snowfall this time adding 5-7 cm to what was already on the ground, making for very poor road conditions especially outside of town, as temperatures remained below freezing all day near -2 C. Our snow will end overnight and the low responsible will be in the central plains states bringing blizzard conditions to parts of the northern plains and prairie provinces on Friday into Saturday.

Saturday, 29 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Generally unsettled with frequent rain and occasional strong winds, temperatures a little above average but variable.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will start out rather wet in parts of Leinster as rain moves slowly south through the Dublin region. Some other showers will occur elsewhere but there will also be some brighter intervals. By afternoon it will be a little more settled. Highs 7 to 10 C.

TONIGHT variable cloud, clear intervals will allow a slight frost to develop around midnight after which it will cloud over and turn milder, so lowest values -1 to +3 well before dawn.

SUNDAY some sunny intervals at first, then windy with cloud and rain arriving across the western and central counties, reaching the east coast later. Highs 7 to 10 C will be during the evening in many areas (near 12 C west Munster). Moderate to strong southerly winds overnight into Monday morning.

MONDAY rain continuing, potential for some strong winds to develop but the low may not get very strong until passing Ireland around mid-afternoon. Highs 10 to 13 C.
TUESDAY variable cloud, breezy, showers, lows near 2 C and highs near 8 C.
WEDNESDAY increasing cloud, outbreaks of rain later, highs to 10 C.
THURSDAY and FRIDAY will be quite unsettled and mild with southerly winds perhaps becoming quite strong at times, highs 12 to 14 C.
This variable and fast-moving pattern will continue for the following week with the same sort of mixture of weather.

My local weather on Friday was sunny and cold after an overnight snowfall of 5 cms, bringing the total on the ground to about 12 cms, so it looks like winter now. Even so, there was no snow cover down in the Columbia valley after just trace amounts fell there.

Sunday, 30 November, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Milder for a couple of days with rain arriving later today, some strong winds developing by Monday, then a bit colder with passing showers, and back to very mild conditions by end of the week.

    FORECASTS

TODAY ... Some brighter intervals at first after any fog clears away, increasing higher cloud at first, then lower levels of cloud and rain by late afternoon or evening. Highs by evening near 10 C.
TONIGHT overcast, foggy and mild with rain at times, lows 6 to 8 C.
MONDAY overcast, foggy, rain or drizzle, intervals of strong winds by afternoon near south and west coasts in particular, where gusts to 80 km/hr are possible. Highs 10 to 13 C.
TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY will turn slightly colder in a brisk westerly wind and passing showers, some with hail and thunder, lows each day 3 to 5 C and highs 8 to 10 C.
Later in the week it will turn very mild again in southerly winds, except that some parts of the northeast may remain in colder air until late Thursday or Friday, so that sleet rather than rain may fall at first there. These intervals of very mild and wet weather will continue to show up although now we are seeing faint signs of a colder interval mid-month due to easterly winds setting in.

My local weather on Saturday was mostly cloudy with fog layers, and quite cold, near -3 C, so no melting of the thin snow pack we have now. It snowed in Chicago most of the day with 10-15 cm reported there. Once that low dies out over eastern Canada another strong low will form a bit further south and track across the east coast on Tuesday bringing inland snowfalls of 10-20 cms and sleet on the coast, severe storms possible in the southeastern states.

Monday, 1st December, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Generally unsettled with frequent outbreaks of rain, temperatures alternating between mild (today, mid-week, weekend) and somewhat cooler days between, on a 2-3 day cycle.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be mild with occasional rain and isolated thunderstorms. An interval of heavier showers and possible thunderstorms will develop in the southwest later this morning and will move across the midlands towards east Ulster by evening. Any brighter spells today could be quite brief and some fog will hang over higher ground at times. Highs 11 to 13 C.
TONIGHT breezy with passing showers and a few clear intervals, lows 2 to 5 C.
TUESDAY partly cloudy, breezy with passing showers, a few with hail, then a longer spell of rain by late afternoon and evening, highs 8 to 10 C.
WEDNESDAY variable cloud, turning milder by afternoon and evening, rain at times, and southwest winds 50 to 80 km/hr. Lows near 3 C and highs 10 to 12 C.
THURSDAY partly cloudy to overcast, showers, lows near 2 C and highs near 8 C.
Further pulses of rain, mild temperatures and moderate to strong southwest winds will occur around Friday, Sunday and the following mid-week interval (after Tuesday 9th) which could produce a longer very mild interval into the 12-15 C range. Eventually some weak blocking high pressure may turn winds more easterly and drop temperatures a little below average by mid-month, with strong low pressure moving gradually towards Ireland near the end of the reliable guidance frame, so there could be some interesting developments in the week before the Christmas holidays. This could range from a wintry spell to a stormy interval, details will depend on developments in the upper atmosphere.

My local weather on Sunday was cloudy and cold with temperatures steady around -1 C. We have a frozen snowscape now especially along some secondary roads, the highways are clear with more traffic.

Tuesday, 2 December, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS ... Rather mild and unsettled for most of the next two weeks, then it could turn a bit colder with a few dry days after mid-month.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will have a pleasant sunny to partly cloudy morning, then cloud and scattered showers already moving into western counties will arrive further east, highs 8 to 10 C.
TONIGHT intervals of rain, clearing later, lows 2 to 5 C.
WEDNESDAY increasing cloud followed by rain, and moderate south winds, 40 to 60 km/hr. Highs 9 to 12 C.
    THURSDAY variable cloud, a few showers, lows 2 to 5 C and highs 8 to 10 C.
FRIDAY windy with outbreaks of rain, lows near 7 C and highs 11 to 14 C.
WEEKEND OUTLOOK ... Some clearing by Saturday in moderate westerly winds, showers more isolated, highs near 9 C. Back into rain and strong winds, mild temperatures by Sunday. The week following will have some pulses of very mild air separated by more seasonable temperatures, but at times it could be well into the mid-teens C. Eventually the Atlantic takes a rest and higher pressure over northern Britain produces a cooler east wind, not necessarily below freezing though.

My local weather on Monday was overcast and cold with light snow resuming, about 2 cm has fallen over the past few hours, with temperatures close to -4 C.

Wednesday, 3 December, 2025 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS … Rather mild to the weekend and then very mild next week, occasional rain and some drier intervals in the mix.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will start out sunny in many areas and turn cloudy around mid-day to early afternoon, then rain will move in as winds pick up towards the evening hours. Highs 10 to 13 C.

TONIGHT rain and moderate south to southwest winds, lows near 7 C. About 10-15 mm expected.

THURSDAY will become partly cloudy with showers, highs near 11 C.

FRIDAY windy and mild with rain becoming heavy at times, 20 to 40 mm is expected. Highs around 13 or 14 C. Some brighter intervals will develop across the south and west by afternoon. Winds south to southwest 50 to 80 km/hr.

SATURDAY breezy and a little cooler with showers, lows near 5 C and highs near 9 C.

SUNDAY will be back to rain and very mild temperatures near 13 C.

All of next week is likely to be very mild and temperatures could be near record high values at times, 14 to 16 C is possible. There will be a little rain at times but also some brighter spells and if you happen to be a gardener you may find some plants responding as if it were spring rather than the first stages of winter. This mild spell could gradually fade out into more average temperatures as higher pressure starts to assert more influence but there are no signs of anything too cold with that, just a drop of several degrees back to near average December readings.

My local weather on Tuesday was overcast and foggy with a bit of light snow in the morning, temperatures rose a little towards +2 C. A snowfall of 10-20 cms from the low off the east coast of the U.S. (which will be near Ireland by Friday) covered some inland areas of the northeastern states but it was a cold sleety rain on the coast near New York City and most of southern New England.
