Do you use any 3rd party apps with Hue? and if so no issues transferring them over to the new bridge? just the usual press the button to sync a new app?

I don't really use any other 3rd party apps apart from maybe Hueloween once a year, but that's about it… Used to like & use OnSwitch, but the modern day Hue app is more than enough these days.. I really like dynamic scenes…

Can you have 2 bridges connected simultaneously in the one app if ya have a bridge in 2 houses?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,172 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

yes, and you can just toggle between the 2 bridges…

    IMG_7349.jpeg

these should have different names, but for some reason they are both called ‘Home’

1 is the house in Ireland, and the other is the house In Lithuania!!

I don’t use any 3rd party apps. But the migration process could not have been easier

During the migration process the pro bridge was assigned the same name as the existing. At this point it offered me the opportunity to rename the pro so I did.

Has anyone picked up any of the new 'budget' Hue Essential Bulbs?

They are basically cheaper versions of the premium bulbs, and supposedly not as good in terms of colour range…

    Screenshot 2025-09-30 at 11.07.22.png Screenshot 2025-09-30 at 11.08.50.png

They really doo look like fantastic value, and now with the Bridge Pro now able to handle 150+ bulbs, I feel a project coming on for a set of string party lights of some sort….

    Can't beat 4x colour E27 bulbs for 17.50 each… or 4x GU10's for less than 15 each!!

Also, the Motion Aware feature…. I set it up in the sitting room yesterday..

    Unbelievable!!!!

I'll still need Motion Sensors in single bulb rooms like bathrooms etc… but for the kitchen, that sensor is now defunct!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,325 ✭✭✭ablelocks

does the sensor work on older bulbs?

also, i thought the hue bulbs were far better than F for energy usage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,172 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

It doesn't seem to work on my original colour E27 bulbs, but on the newer ones yes.

The oldest bulbs I have that it works on are the original White & Colour Ambience GU10 bombs (the bigger body ones), as well as the few original Lightstrip Plus I use, both of which must be at least 8+ years old at this stage..

I think they get a bad energy rating because they are 'always on' therefore always consuming something, which in modern efficiency standards is probably a no no..

EDIT: actually it might indeed work on my older bulbs, it just won't let me try as they are only in rooms where there are only 2 bulbs and Motion Aware needs at least 3 bulbs in order to work…

The UK plug adapter from the older bridge fits the new power adapter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,172 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

The one I have is a completely different style…

    Here’s the new one;

    IMG_7366.jpeg

And here’s the plug/adaptor off my old Bridge (which I got when that V2 bridge first came out)

    IMG_7389.jpeg

They have completely different rails that the plug bit slides on/off of…

Oh, mine doesn't look like that - I have a 2nd generation bridge, and it aligns perfectly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,172 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

Actually just thinking about it, there's a very good chance I just continued to use my Gen 1 power supply on my Gen 2 bridge when it arrived!! So I must go and have a root around my 'bits and pieces' drawers in my office to see if I still have the newer PSU…

There's a gen 2 bridge in my mothers house, so I can bring her down my old gen 1 psu and take that adaptor if I can't find mine!

Is it noticeable faster to react to the motion with new bulb feature?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,172 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

It's probably a little bit slower if anything… It all depends on how the 3 or 4 bulbs are placed in the room..

in my sitting room I need to probably take 1-2 steps inside the room, the kitchen was similar but I then grouped the kitchen 'motion zone' in with my existing Hue sensor in the kitchen and they now work together…. which just means when the battery runs out on the sensor, I'll probably take it down!!

ah ok, did even the old hard sensors start working faster with new hub? That was mentioned as one feature of the new hub compared to the old hub.

The most used sensor in my house is in the ensuite, and to be honest I haven't really noticed any change since switching over to the new Bridge Pro!

Anyone got good light scenes for Halloween? Or a good app, preferably free, to set up some.

Get the huelloween app. Been using it every Halloween for years…. It’s excellent…

Bonus points if you set it up with a Bluetooth speaker

I had been looking for that on the Pay store but seems it's gone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,172 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

The Hue native app is actually very good these days… there are a lot of cool effects now like candle, and you can adjust speed/brightness, and they bring out seasonal scenes like for Halloween etc…

The Hueloween app is great, I've been using it almost 10 years now and it does great effects. I hook the phone up to a bluetooth speaker which is above my front door out a window, and it works so well….

I've only ever known it on iOS, and it looks to be still there, so if someone has an iPhone of maybe an old iPad??

Have had a unit fail in the ceiling of kitchen so ideally need the old style replacement

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,172 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

They have a new one called Light Strip Solo , it's like the very original light strip that was not extendable, but could be cut to suit, and comes in lengths of 3m, 5m & 10m and they are not crazy expensive!

yeah that looks like the adapter doesn’t have the dc output plugging directly into it and twice the price of just the adapter. My issue is it’s the power unit itself that has failed. So I just need it, as it goes into a socket in the ceiling then cable runs though a small hole onto an overhead canopy. Anything else would be quite a job.

I’m actually looking now would it be chance to move one of under cabinet strips to the new flux which seems to have come out early, or wait for the omniglow. Or maybe wait for the flux ultra bright for kitchen cabinets. Freeing up their psus for the tricky location.

Although Philips seem to think omniglow is the under cabinet solution:

How to use strip lights indoors

Consider how you want to light your space. Do you want indirect or direct light? How much brightness do you need?
Flux and Flux ultra-bright Strip lights are designed to be concealed, creating an indirect wall washing effect that fills rooms with diffused light – ideal for decoration and creating ambience. OmniGlow is made to be used as a direct light. Its uniform line of light makes it a striking centrepiece that doesn’t need to be concealed, making it ideal for ambience and practical lighting.

does the sensor work on older bulbs?

just coming back to this, but it seems this feature does indeed work on the oldest bulbs as I just set up a new motion zone in my back garden and it's allowing me to select an original Lux bulb as one of the 4 lights in the zone!

Lux bulbs were the very first Philips Hue white only bulbs, and were the same shape as the colour B27/E22 bulbs..

The one in my side laneway light was dropped years ago so all the glass lens broke but the bulb still works fine!!

cheers - with 4 teens in the house, that feature alone is going to save me money….

I am really interested in this Motion Aware Feature, so do you still need the stand alone sensors or do the bulbs work almost like they have an inbuilt sensor in them? Is it worth upgrading my old hue hub in your opinion.
