This site is a great example of quality over quantity, really knowledgeable and useful posters covering all grades, codes and club as well, wouldn't be bothered ploughing through all the detrius on other forums to be honest

See already a club draw has raised few eyebrows. Just the "luck" of the draw I guess.

A draw took place... the winners were....

If that isn't taking the píss I don't know what is. They are getting dogs abuse and rightly so.

Lot of clubs guarantee a ticket for the Secretary and maybe Treasurer and Chairperson given they do most of the work of running the club.

Can only presume it wasn't live. Got sent a screenshot of part of the email sent originally.

So out of All the Members that applied, the list of winners is a complete píss take. If I was a member of that club I'd be fuming.

I've had messages from lads In Kilkenny, Waterford and Dublin with the pics And the list of names. Joke really.

I'm from kilkenny and while I have no massive preference, I would prefer to see cork win especially for the likes of horgan and harnedy who will never get a better chance of winning an all Ireland final. Lehane and cahalane another 2 great servants who it would give me great pleasure to get the ultimate reward.

They also play a lovely attractive brand of hurling, and yes their fans, love them or hate them do bring a lot to the gaa and hurling in particular with their colour and noise

Fair play. Yeah even outside of a supporting county I was delighted for Joe Canning that he got his medal in 2017. I was happy for Colm Cooper got his All Ireland club medal in football. All great players. Not biased but it would be a right shame if the four players you mentioned from Cork didn't walk away from their careers without a celtic cross to the name. At least some of Tipps great players have celtic crosses to their name.

I'll probably be saying different if ye win 3 or 4 ina Row though🤣

Fair play to you, you are definitely in the minority among Kilkenny people 😀. Because of the twenty year gap and Pat Horgan maybe some people outside of Cork wouldn't begrudge it to us.

I must warn you though, we will be unbearable if we win it 🙂.

as Fr.ted famously said it’s not unusual for the people running the draw to actually win in the draw

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,392 ✭✭✭awaywithyou

yerra ye wont really… i dont know is it the shorter season or the split season.. but when a team wins an all-ireland now its nearly forgotten about a week later… i think it was paul geaney saying when kerry won in 2014.. it was his first.. he said the reality of the few days after was alot different to what he thought it would be… they arrived in tralee monday night killarney and by wednesday or thursday people are back to work and the world just carries on as if it never happened…. definitely see it the last few years.. games coming thick and fast.. all of a sudden the final is here... its played.. cup handed over.. chat about game for a day after.. everyone then goes back to their own lives as it were and the world moves on..

thats the way it appears to me anyways… would like to see Cork win as id like to see Horgan Harnedy but especially Lehane get something for their efforts.. was actually delighted for lehane to see him burying that pen in munster final..

but unfortunately sport doesnt work that way… im old enough to remember 1999… kilkenny arrived into that all-ire final raging favs… they were beaten in all-ire final year before by a brian whelehan inspired offaly.. in 1999 a very young Cork team came with a late surge and pipped them.. so anything can happen

Cork 1-8 Galway 1-11 FT. Cork goal in injurytime so not as close as the scoreline might suggest. Hit a good few wides

The Fervour building up in tipp, flags bunting etc is building up on a par with when we denied Kilkenny the drive for 5.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,246 ✭✭✭Seadin

Why don't you stay on the Tipp thread? I really hope we give ye a good hammering so that you will shut up for the year.

I was posting on this thread and others before you were even registered here,so might be best for you to relax yourself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,246 ✭✭✭Seadin

OK so I will but I felt your post was written to keep us scared of the prospect of playing Tipp in a final. It will be a 50/50 game and the best team on the day should win.

You are safe out we normally don't do that in Cork. 😂

Save buying the Tipp flags and banners for after the game @realdanbreen. Sure they'll be selling them for half the price.🤣

Rich coming from the Mayo of hurling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,246 ✭✭✭Seadin

Are you referring to Cork? If you are just let you know Cork are 2nd in the Roll of Honour of All Irelands won and still ahead of Tipp despite our last All Ireland of 2005. Mayo have lost 11 finals since 1989 and last won one in 1951. Not exactly on par with Mayo there lad.

Cork have 30 all Irelands in hurling and we even outnumber Mayo in all Irelands won in our weaker code of gaelic football as well.😉

Well you couldn't call 2021 a bottle job. We met one of the greatest teams of all time at the peak of their powers that day. In 2006 well that was an ambush, Kilkenny had their homework done and were more than ready for us that day!

In 2013 the first day Clare were probably the better team on the day, but still though we were unlucky not to snatch the win all the same! As for last year well to be honest with you i thought Clare benefitted from more of the 50/50 calls on the day, and we were very unlucky not to be awarded that free to bring it to a replay right at the end.

We've seen more all Ireland final defeats in both mens senior codes than we have victories since 1990 unfortunately, but if this Cork team plays for 70 plus minutes and we cut out the lapses in concentration which we are prone to at times, then with a bit of luck we'll get over the line here.

Totally agree on that. Out of the All Ireland Finals we lost in hurling since 2000, the ones that stand out to me where we could have won were 2003, 2013 (first game) and 2024 we were very close. 2006, 2013 (second game) and 2021 we were well beaten and could have done nothing more. We are due an All Ireland though. This is our third all Ireland appearance in this decade. We are knocking on the door and must now deliver to end this monkey off our back. Have we ever lost three all Irelands in a decade in the hurling?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,501 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Obviously Hoggie and Seamus Harnedy have been our two marquee forwards over the last decade and a bit, but i'm looking for the likes of Alan Connolly, Brian Hayes, Shane Barrett and Declan Dalton etc to really step up to the plate, and show that they're the lads now ready to carry this team for the next couple of years as such.

If that Cork forward line ignites and has a big game it could be a long afternoon for Tipp. Anyway i just need to say something about how i miss how things were here. Speaking as someone who still thinks that all Ireland finals should be in September, moving them to August would be fine and a lot better than having them in July.

It's terrible to have both senior championships done and dusted before August! I also miss having the minor final as the curtain raiser for the senior match, and to be honest i never thought i'd say this but i actually miss Ger Canning's commentary. I just think Marty Morrissey is a terrible announcer. He does my head in actually!

Yerra thats only because Ger is a Cork man and Marty is Clare...!! I agree with your other points though.... there is no way the GAA could say the shorter season is a success.... moving the minor to u17 a disaster and taking the games away from croker was poor thinking… the lack of joined up thinking in the GAA amazes me.. for example kerry minors played Tyrone last Sunday.. that could have been played yest as a curtain raiser and tailteann final played today... then we had kerry camogie allire semifinal yest in kildare.. kerry wanted game at 1pm to be able to head to croker after.. camogie assoc fixed it for 3:30 and wouldn't change it... come to think of it kerry camogie the kerry minors and senior footballers could have played in croker yest as a triple header...

ThThe speed of the season I think strengthens my point earlier about an all-ire victory being diluted...
