A certain amount of that is the fact that Tipp is bordered by 8 hurling counties!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭lukin

I'd say most counties don't want Cork to win. KK or Limerick don't, Clare neither I'd say. I wouldn't expect them to. Would we be supporting KK or Kerry if they were in an AI final? I don't think so. Eamonn Sweeney wrote a ridiculous article in the Sunday Indo a few weeks ago saying that hurling "needed Cork to win an All-Ireland "and that it would be "good for hurling".

I'd say a lot of people got a good laugh reading that. There's very few GAA supporters think that. They'd much rather see a county like Wexford or Waterford win it.

90% people will be shouting for Tipp.

Was 3 Clare lads behind me on Saturday roaring heads off for Dubs. Don't have problem with it.

Cork and Dublin would be hated automatically mostly anyway.

Hard to know who KK fans would be supporting

    Quite a quandry for them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭lukin

It's possible they might rather see Cork win because Tipp are bordering them but Cork are not so maybe the rivalry with Tipp is bigger.

Their biggest problem might be trying to figure out who's winning or what the score is!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,100 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

    That's an issue alright lol

Bit like when it's a Dublin v Kerry football final

Shout for the lesser of two evils and feel dirty afterwards

For a lot of people it's like Hitler fighting Stalin, they don't want one to win exactly, but they can't both lose.

It's a compliment to the success of both really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,854 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Ah we are far worse than those 2 to many.

You would not see Stalin or Hitler bending the rules like Cork do, apparently.

And I don't believe Stalin ever went on strike!

It's amazing that a lot of neutrals want Tipp to win because they find Cork arrogant. This is despite Tipp once being seen as the home of arrogance and Cork not having won an All Ireland in 20 years. it's a strange time to be alive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭lukin

I would never support Dublin, under any circumstances. Not even if they were playing Kerry. I just wouldn't support either of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,818 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

You're getting mixed up, we're the "home of Hurling ".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 634 ✭✭✭Corcaigh84

I'd find that hard to believe, my Tipp buddy who played at a good level absolutely despises Limerick (pre Kiely) and Clare, and they hate them back! I would imagine it has a lot to do with proximity.

Cork Tipp I always felt had a good respect for each other, probably due to being kings of Munster for the better part of a century. Usually when one is up the other is down, which makes this year quite unique!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,100 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

Limerick def used to hate Tipp more

Think that's changed over last few years

Lot of needle between Cork and Limerick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭lukin

That's true. It's because we've played each other so many times in the last few years . Familiarity breeds contempt.

We seem to have this issue of constantly going flat in games for between 10 to 20mins regularly - This needs to be addressed along with some minor defensive mistakes which im sure will be ironed out...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,824 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Funny enough the GAA used to say that about Dublin and after their plan worked too well not even the Dubs care about the matches anymore. I think Cork definitely deserve an AI and it'd be good for hurling but the sport suffered when KK dominated. What we need is a spread of winners including cork.

Hard to believe it's now 10 years since kk won.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭lukin

I must pull you up there, even though I want Cork to win; they don't "deserve" an All-Ireland, that's nonsense.

I remember people saying that about Waterford hurlers years ago when they won a few Munster finals and reached a few AI semis and one final (in 2008).

I mean they deserve one in the sense a county like Meath doesn't. At least from a fans point of view. You could even argue if the ref blew up on time in 2013 you would have beaten Clare.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,858 ✭✭✭The White Feather

I was delighted with Tipp winning the other semi as I think they are more beatable than Kilkenny. I think Cork would beat both but Tipp are a bit easier as they are further behind in their development. Kilkennys tactics near the end were very poor with the extra man and kind of gave Tipp a fighting chance that they took. The keeper should have saved that goal as well as that other goal looked like he was going for a point to me but had to hit it when surrounded so it flew off on a low trajectory.

As I have been saying all year, we need to just worry about ourselves and make sure we produce what we have being doing. I don't subscribe to the theory that we have peaked too soon or we needed a stiffer test. I thought Dublin played really well and their manager is very good. They would have got beaten any other way so they did the right thing going for it, At least they see now where they are, It was even great that they kept going to the end as it made us keep going too. They got a goal and we went and got a few more as well. It would have been way worse if they had just said forget it and we were just strolling around. It was actually a good tussle to the very end. We treated them like Limerick and kept going non stop.

The other pluses is Downey and Hoggie can rest early being taken off and you could see the subs were itching to get on and impress. Kingston and Lehane scoring of the bench and even Jack O'Connor getting a point even with a brief cameo.

We still have a few things that can be improved such as Barrett scoring. He missed a fair few shots but he still worked really hard tracking players and tackling. So the process is there and he kept to it even when not scoring. When one guy doesn't score then the other players kick in to get them. We don't rely on a couple of players whereas Tipp do. They rely on Forde an awful lot as well as McCarthy. I'm sure we will have a plan to shut them down.

Hopefully Harnedy is fit but even if he can be a sub it will be a super boost. I would say training must be super intense but I hope there are no more injuries!

We just have too much firepower for them but it all relies on performing on the day. Once we get into top gear we will be hard to stop. They will have to try and disrupt our play but I don't think they can plug all the gaps. Surely after losing last year, will really get guys knowing whats needed on the day. We look like we have stepped up a level from last year.

On another note, am i the only one on Boards that doesn't hate other counties? I like all the counties and if they win, I have no problem! The only proviso is when one team has one a few in a row, I get kind of cranky and prefer a change! But still if they win, they win.

I honestly think we're a better team than Tipp but these sort of games are not won on paper! Tipp have done well to get this far because last year was kind of a rock bottom year for them. Having Seamus Harnedy fit and raring to go will be a great boost for us as well. League champions, Munster champions and while i'm expecting a battle i'm confident enough that the Liam McCarthy cup will be added to that as well.

On another note very worrying news about the future of this site. There's always the PROC i suppose and while it has it's good posters it also has more than it's fair share of idiots as well! While the posting volumes on this thread wouldn't be as big as over there i prefer it here. Hopefully Cork will bring the McCarthy cup back home to the banks of our own lovely Lee. Hopefully this site's long term future is also secured as well.

Your post there was liked by a Limerick fan. He must have forgotten about 2010 when most of their player spent the year on strike.🤣

    Club draw on tonight

Long shot as far more members than tickets but fingers crossed I might get one

One lad in work was trying a contact in Wicklow

    Quoted €500 for a ticket

Sad thing is someone else will pay that for it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭lukin

He should put a screencap of guy in Wicklow's name and number (if he has it) on social media for everyone to see.

It be the last dance for Hoggie Lehane, Cahalane, and Harnedy next week. Hope after all what these players have gone through over the years will land Liam McCarthy back to leeside after a 20 year wait. If Cork win it will be a special moment. A generation has passed since they won it last. I reckon the county would shut down if they win.
