That’s really helpful, thank you. Congrats on the AP position!

Has anyone outside of dublin gotten any useful update from pas? It seems crazy that stage 1 results came out 5 months ago and nothing has happened since. I'm aware of several vacancies in my department alone so it doesn't seem to be down to lack of vacancies even though that seems to be their response..

Yes I would highly recommend getting help, especially if coming from the private sector. I was public sector, and had a lot of colleagues helping me with interview prep/proof reading my application form. Would have been lost without them. Went to a coach as well but didn't find her as helpful.

Ye it feels they have no intention of hiring outside Dublin on this comp I know 3 posts in my chosen area that haven't been filled.

does anyone know if these positions are full time in the office for first 6-12 months or probationary period and if the terms state that is that the reality .. eg in my place you have to do 6 months in the office per contract but in reality it’s more like the first few weeks. Nobody else is in so what’s the point in dragging new people in 5 days.
Significant amount of new APs couldn’t afford Dublin housing now ? So hopefully they are accommodating ?

All depends on the department/team you get unfortunately. Few I've heard of lately are starting with 2 days a week and are commuting from around the country.

Does anyone have an up to date number they have called for interview for Dublin panel please ?

What is the story with AP posts in Dublin with an Irish requirement? Had a look at the CS mobility map and I couldn't identify very many CS units where there was any Irish requirement.

I got an email from PAS on 5 June to say it was still up to OOM 63 to Stage 3 in Dublin. This hasn’t changed since 9 May….

Thanks Mol ..the batches are relatively small it seems ....

I contacted PAS today to see if there was any further movement for Dublin. Still 61 at the OOM so they are not scheduling any new interviews at the moment - though I was hoping they would since the results of 1.2 batch are out already. Very slow process!

Is it wrong to assume not a lot will happen over July and August? Plenty of annual leave taken etc. Things slow down a bit in general.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 _SpringOnion_

That's what I thought as well. But then checked the boards for the 2022 competition and they were doing batch 2 interviews throughout July - so did not stop for the summer months.

Anyone get updates on Meath? I’m in the top 20 OOM open stream but still nothing.

Hi There, Would anyone know if there will be a 2025 Assistant Principal open competition and if so when? The Principal Officer open competition happened in June so just checking if anyone with experience of these competitions would have any information or understand the recruiting cycles? Thanks

This competition is technically open until the end of the year so I don't think they would start a new one until this one closes. Not holding out much hope at all unfortunately.

They've begun clearance for batch 1.2 from Dublin now, just more as an fyi

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 beau20

Ok thanks for your response, good to know. I thought as the principal one already opened and closed, I thought the rest would follow suit.

Thanks, Not really in the know here but how many batches do they usually do?

There's no 'usual' unfortunately. They do a batch if there's a demand for APs. You can read the 2022 to get a sense of how many they called (although that was a 2 year competition. For now, this is a one year comp).

Thanks @dory. Ok well hopefully it stays that way, I'll keep an eye out 😊

Interesting - from this PQ answer, over 1000 were called to interview in last comp. Seemingly 98 called so far in this competition - so maybe some regional movement as well as the c. 65 in Dublin.

Thanks that's interesting to see all the comps listed like this.

Out of interest, do we know where people who have been called already have been assigned to?

I'm curious if this was something you were looking for and found or something you can set up an automated notification for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 Traditionalist

I'm constantly amazed by how contributors here are able to report and give updates on the latest information they have got from PAS. As far as I can see it's impossible to get anything out of them. They tell you on the "messageboard" to email clearance@publicjobs.ie and quote your candidate ID and AP 2024, if you have any queries but then ignore emails. Phone calls are also a waste of time. They go to the trouble of ringing you back on a missed call from your mobile and you think "great, this is very efficient of them" and then they put you through to a voicemail. If they put up an update or emailed everyone with the current status it would avoid all of this (probably incorrect) speculation on here and probably have fewer phone calls and emails to deal with in the first place. I would say they have no intention of filling vacancies before the panel expires in December or they don't exist in the first place anyway.

I can confirm that the numbers I was posting earlier on this board were not a speculation - got them by emailing PAS, with my first email being redirected to the AP specific email address. They usually got back to me with the current status of OOMs called for stage 3 within couple of hours. Perhaps things become less transparent later in the process. In any case the whole recruitment seems to be very slow this time (compared to the discussions held during the 2022 competition).

    Best of luck!

I'm finding the panel once on it is moving very slowly. I was told 16 days ago there were 2 people ahead of me before I would be called and not heard anything yet. Must be demand however if they're moving onto more interviews!
