This is the 2024 AP Comp, open stream for Dublin. I applied last October, tests end last year and then shortlisted earlier this year. Hadn't heard a peep in months and then got an email last Friday in the publicjobs portal that I'm being called for interview in the next couple of weeks. Assuming you would be close enough to beinv in next batch then following these interviews, as reading last few posts above it seems they've contacted OOM 90s up to at least early 130s at end of last week.

Thanks for confirming. PAS must have given me incorrect numbers in the email. Maybe copy and paste from their last email. I'm delighted to see movement!

    Passed my interview.

Thank you to everyone for all the information, certainly very useful early on in the process. Good luck to anyone still in the process!

Yep, the results for batch 1.3 are out. I passed as well, to my huge surprise as it was one of the toughest interviews I've ever done. Also, coming from outside the civil service didn't help.

Also want to thank for all the tips and information shared here, definitely help throughout the process!

Congrats on passing! Delighted to hear people are getting on well, definitely gives hope.

Do you mind if I ask you why you found it the toughest? Also coming from outside civil service and have booked some coaching for next week ahead of my interview the following week, which I hope will help. I do better in person generally than on Zoom, which has me a bit anxious...but will be a learning experience anyway.

It's a tough interview as there is a lot to be covered in terms of all the competencies, and you need to have examples for each. That means limited time to answer, and I felt that it was not enough to explain my experience etc. They cut you off as well and this doesn't help.

Also wanted to say thanks to the people in this thread - very helpful info shared here. Had my interview a few weeks ago and passed. Would echo what others said about expecting to get interrupted a lot in the interview, it's quite disconcerting and I was unprepared for it, thought I would have 4-5 mins to tell my little story. Worked out fine in the end though so seemingly its not necessarily an indication things are going poorly!

Thank you - good to be prepared for that as I can have a tendency to go on a tangent, so will work on keeping examples tight and trying not to get derailed by being cut off at any stage.

Congrats again on passing the interview.

Out of interest, is that OOM the open or interdepartmental number?

I'm up for interview soon. Nail biting stuff! Starting to wonder if I should have invested in coaching 😱

Don't want to get too far ahead of myself but for people who've passed what kind of proof of education do they ask for in the pre-employment checks?

I'm having awful trouble getting my college to send me transcripts so wondering if I even need them. Maybe the degree cert itself is enough?? (Mine doesn't show grade)

Congratulations to all who've passed. Is the new capabilities interview very different to the old competencies structure? I'm dreading the interview if the kildare panel ever moves forward.

A degree qualification is not an essential requirement for Assistant Principal in the Civil Service.

Can confirm I haven’t been asked for anything related to my qualifications during clearance. Just Garda vetting, references and a declaration form. A foreign police check is required if you’ve lived abroad within the last 5 years.

Still in the clearance process myself for batch 1.3. Got the interview result and email to start clearance a week ago. The Garda vetting can take 2 weeks, sometimes longer. References aren’t requested until after.

Good luck to all those who have interviews coming up.

Hi, for those who have interviewed to date, where you asked for examples on all 8 capabilities?? I’m working on my timings and feel that with the presentation and any introduction beforehand, there really isn’t much time for all examples plus questions…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 _SpringOnion_

Yes, all 8 capabilities with examples and they also asked about values and motivations for some of them.

Hi Springonion, may I ask what you mean by 8 Capibilities? Pretty sure there are 6 Compenticies for AP.. but am very interested to know if this has recently changed and I need to be aware of these new ones?

The capability framework replaced the competency framework.

You're asked all 8, they'll cut you off if waffle too much. There isn't much time for an intro at the beginning, don't have a speech ready. The presentation is strictly 10 mins. On the capability framework don't forget to think about the column in the middle (values/skills etc).

Learn from this thread and don't apply for a rural job if you want to up your chances. Trains are full of people with crazy commutes 1-2 days a week.

RA makes it clear here in post-match press conf that Mainoo is fighting with Bruno for a spot. As he never subs Bruno, I guess we won't be seeing any Kobbie

I second everything dory says here.

Don't sleep on values/skills - link them to every example you have

Hi all, apologies for hijacking this thread, was hoping someone might be able to tell me if they have any experience of starting a CS job while pregnant - is there a minimum amount of time you would have to put in at your job to be eligible for maternity benefit (as in the topped up amount, not the statutory minimum)? And would the time spent on mat leave count towards your two years of service before you are eligible for mobility, or would that be suspended while you are on leave? Thanks a million.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 362 ✭✭Wood

No minimum requirement for mat benefit.

Probation is suspended while on mat leave, and to be eligible for mobility you must have passed probation.

Similarly, mobility requests for some departments are placed "on-hold" for mat leave.

So while it is reckonable service for promotion/seniority i wouldn't imagine it would count towards the minimum.

If you already feel this way, this early, it might be worth asking local HR to move you somewhere else on your return.

For those who've been through interviews already, how long did it take for them to let you know the outcome?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 smithereenie

Three weeks. But I’ve seen from this thread that others were quicker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 94 ✭✭gemi

A question on the presentation, for those who have been through it already - do they allow you to run through your presentation largely uninterrupted with questions at the end, or do they ask questions throughout it? Time wise I'm coming up on 9 minutes, and we're allowed up to 10 - so I'm thinking they'll save Qs until after, but any views from actual experiences so far would be helpful?

They let you present uninterrupted and then ask Qs afterwards. As long as you're under the 10mins you're totally fine!
