They let you present uninterrupted and then ask Qs afterwards. As long as you're under the 10mins you're totally fine!

Lovely, thank you. I thought as much, but now as it's getting closer I'm clearly anxious about the realities of how it will play out. Thanks again!

For mine I knew by 3 /4 minute mark where I should be, again at 6/7 minutes. I had a stopwatch in front of me and had timed myself a good few times. Make sure to speak, not read. Have as few words as possible on the screen. Make sure, if using two screens, that you're looking into the one with the camera. I found it easier to use one screen, as you've no reason to see them when presenting. Make sure you know when you're at the 9 minute mark so you can start wrapping up.

Got my email to commence the pre-employment checks. They're getting through that in Batch 1.3 quickly enough.

Best of luck to all that have interviews coming up. Has anyone used a coach such as Tina Kinirons for these interviews and any feedback if you did?

Tina helped me with an internal HEO competition, first with video shortlisting and working on my competencies and later with final interview prep. I was ranked in top 5 in my county. Best money I've ever spent. Went from CO to HEO. She is honest and doesn't sugarcoat things. Will certainly use her services again.

Another recommendation for Tina from me, I went from EO to AP last year and wouldn't have made it without her coaching.

For those who have received a significant promotion, ie a large jump between grades, how are you getting on in the new grade? Some people here have mentioned going from CO to HEO & from EO to AP. Congrats, that's quite an achievement! Usually people work their way up through each grade so I can imagine a significant jump would come with lots of additional workload, learning & responsibility. Did you find this transition easy? In hindsight now would you recommend others to follow if the opportunity arose or would you recommend working through each grade? Did you receive internal/external support in your new role to help with the transition or is it very much your own responsibility to get up to speed? Are there any resources you used eg external courses, etc to help adjust to the role, that you would highly recommend to others? I'm just interested to hear your experiences. For me in this comp the AP role sounds appealing (not that my application has progressed!) ..but I would be hesitant to lose the flexi-time as I think that's invaluable..

Usually shortlisting is demand led so imagine would not have progressed to shortlisting if not some vacancies. I know my region has not moved yet

that’s great thanks, wonder would it be worth doing some coaching now in anticipation, could be short notice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 gerdywerdy

i think they usually give two weeks notice (there or thereabouts) I would imagine now that shortlisting is done things might move a bit so best to get ducks in a row just in case

Can I ask what your OOM was before shortlisting? I'm also waiting on Meath.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 NJR1905

    @Oresim I was 7. What were u did u get any messages

I got shortlisted in westmeath and wondering now if I should start prepping for interview and update one of my examples to include the job I've been doing since i applied. Do they refer to your application examples in the interview at all or do they disregard?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,695 ✭✭✭bren2001

they didn’t refer to anything in my application. All questions asked me to provide my own examples

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 Oresim

That's brilliant, well done. I was 25 in the open and 18 in the interdepartmental. Haven't heard anything, so it might be only a small batch they are shortlisting or maybe I haven't been shortlisted.

Thanks, I figured that was the case. I hadn't been long in my current job when I applied so didnt have enough of an example but have a couple of decent ones now I can use

When people say Tina K coaching is it only Tina or has anybody went with Bernie? Are they both good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 583 ✭✭✭CiboC

I recommended Tina as I have direct experience of coaching with her, can't comment on anyone else.

I didn't go for a different well known coaching company as their pricing was based on the salary level of the position that you were applying for, which I thought was an odd way of doing it, and they only offered an online service while Tina preferred to be in person (although can do online too).

Got my date for interview today, a few weeks away so trying to get myself organised. Just wondering when topics for presentation are likely to follow and if anyone could share what kind of topics I should expect.

Also in terms of the 8 capabilities, do they ask them all separately or combine two under each heading like in the framework?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 4,672 Mod ✭✭✭✭dory

Roughly 7 days (maybe longer?) beforehand you'll get 5 topics. They're all taken from the programme for government, different topics for each round of interviews. You generally have 5 days to do the task and have to hand it up a few days beforehand.

Somehow passed the interview, that was really tough (was end of Aug, message of result this morning. OOM from Stage2:~120)

OOM ~30 post interview, wondering does this mean I'm unlikely to get placed now? Will they use the top 20 of this set and then interview another set so I'll just keep slipping? Or how does it work from here.

Wondering if I'm 30 out of 60 or 30 out of 30 haha, and if they interview 10 more and they score better does my OOM fall. Sorry, lots of questions.

Glad to have passed though and thanks to all those adding their experience here. Very helpful to see how everyone is finding it.

Got word that I passed my interview for Dublin batch 1.4. To add to what others have said, massive thank you to those on this thread who have shared info and advice from the get-go. It made what it a very long and difficult process that bit easier! Best of luck to everyone in the next batches.

I just got the email confirming I passed batch 1.4 too. How long is the panel for? how likely am I to get a role, if i ranked 5.

Congratulations! They have just called another round for interview so you'll definitely be placed - they don't skip people who have passed. Best of luck!
