Interesting cloud over Bray Head. Wind really got up around 15 minutes ago, calmed a bit now.

Ominous clouds approaching here in north Dublin, haven't got much of a view to the east so can't get any decent pictures. Wind suddenly picking up as well so I'd say a big downpour on the way

any good webcams in Greystones or Dun Laoghaire area?

Gone very dark over Rathdrum now but no rumbles yet. Looking at the radar it may be tracking just that bit too far North for a direct hit over us.

Seriously ominous clouds rolled in there in north Dublin and wind picked up...radar looks epic!

Dramatic but I think mainly de-electrified now. Bloody cold Irish Sea killed it!

Yep, definitely a case of bark worse than bite. Looked very impressive as it closed in but it's amounted to nothing more than a fairly non-descript shower here

of course, I could have bet my house, my savings my last cent that this was going to happen.
I’m amazed that the lightning strikes made it so far into the Irish Sea from N Wales.

Best shelf cloud I’ve seen in Dublin in my limited time observing weather.

Yeah I saw them from Portrane beach, and that's as good as it got. Absolutely gutted. Close but no cigar

The Irish climate is just one near miss after another, I’m used to these endless let downs but who was it who said ‘it’s the hope that kills you’

Keep the faith! Summer has only just begun 😉

… anyway thunderstorms are rare in Dublin, Irish thunderstorms tend to be homegrown and not imports and are confined to inland areas.

Inland Munster should be in luck tomorrow.

Even better, summer is still almost 3 weeks away!

This goes to show the Irish sea kills any interesting weather for us with the exception of a proper easterly once every 10 years or so. It kills frontal snow events for us, it keeps us relatively cool until mid June and indeed the Irish sea kills thunderstorms from France/UK just like we seen today! Imagine if the Irish sea didn't exist and we were landlocked with the UK how much of an affect that would have on our weather in the winter and the summer.

Well I see the rain made it and the lightning died a death over the water, the cell off the SE never made landfall.

Tomorrow should be a different kettle of fish with homegrown storms especially the mid West from a plume of moist warm air moving West over good warm surface temperatures getting into the low 20's and DP's getting into the low teens, some shear available and gentle converging winds, enough Cap to let the storms develop until they break through the cap and fire up in the afternoon.

MUCAPE getting up over 1000 j/kg for a time tomorrow.

The various indices are indicating storms and possible a few big cells developing with a risk of hail.

Could get warnings for the afternoon as they break out and wouldn't be surprised to see an Orange warning around Limerick, Clare maybe S Galway if some really power up. Slow moving thunderstorms that could give localised flooding and some steamy roads, could spark away for hours. One to watch out for.

    Sounding for near Limerick tomorrow.

    What could go wrong 😁
