Any pointers on where to pick up a cabinet these days? After years (decades) of lurking on here and dreaming of a machine or two of my own I got a place with a shed that I'd love to turn into a bit of an arcade over the next few years.

The problem is that all supply seems to have dried up. I was subscribed to Rklok but around the time I was in a position to pick something up he seems to have packed it in as I haven't seen him list anything in months.

I do keep an eye on UKVac but I wouldn't really be in a position to collect something from the UK.

Ronnie is still going but is a bit elusive, also not cheap really most candies are quite expensive no matter where you go.

In Ireland there are a bunch of us with collections trading, selling, etc constantly. Keep an eye on adverts too sometimes original cabinets pop up from time to time. Anything in paticular you're after? Either I might let something go or point you in the direction of someone.

Have you tried contacting Ronnie through Facebook? I remember him being fairly active on it any time new shipments came in.

On UKVac, worth putting a 'wanted' post/advert up - thats how I got my DinoKing cabs. I organised the cab pickup (person selling was happy to get them onto a pallet and packaged up) via translandgroup.com - bit more of a faf now I'm sure with UK/EU but still doable

Thanks a million guys, I'll follow up on facebook and UKVac and I've dropped you a message Dav09

Any one have any advice or experience with flakey jamma Pcbs?

I fetched my sunset riders PCB that's been stored and picking up dust for years and years .

On initial ROM check it shows 3G ROM BAD and doesn't start .

Ive found the 3g socket and chip. Seems ok in my eyes but I see damage on top left side .you can see it in pic.

Solder side looks ok also but I haven't really a breeze!!

Can i pop that chip out and reseat it first of all. ? I remember I did it before with a snow bros PCB and all was well

    It seems fairly jammed in.

If I can and reseat it and still same ,what's next steps

Or if I can't ,do I need desolder it , resolder it, get a a new chip and have to reprogram it

Don't want to lose my sunset riders PCB 😢

first of all that is soldered and not socketed !

It's worth a shot taking out and cleaning the contacts of all the socketed roms at least ,its hard to make out the chip from the dust but the damage around pin 1 probably isn't causing you any trouble ,its more than likey not connected to anywhere ,The chip could have failed but nearly always lays elsewhere with these bloody tests, the problem probably lays with some ram chip/chips (its never just one that fails :problem: ) in the circut. you could pick a few up and piggy back on and see if it clears up the issue. i'm sure there are multiple repair logs out there for this board.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Yeah I've copped it's soldered , pins go through and soldered to other side .

Yeah first thing to do is actually clean it all thoroughly and I'll removed and clean any of the chips that are socketed ... thanks. Fingers crossed

Have you tried it in more than one setup just to make sure it's getting the right power?

Probably not that but worth checking before you start doing anything to the board. I have some PCBs that look broken in my SNK cabinet but run fine in absolutely everything else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Mm ya know I haven't. I'll stick it in another cab later.it bloody workerd last time I played it ..even if it was 10 years ago!! Nothing drastic can have gone wrong surely

This is why I decided to start selling my non sentimental PCBs, was growing tired of holding my breath every time I took one down from the attic 😅

Removing the socketed chips and giving the legs a clean is definitely a good idea alright, I actually brought a glitching Tetris PCB back from the dead recently doing that. There was just some surface level corossion on the legs that came off easily with IPA.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Yeah it got caked in dust during its hibernation.. unfortunately that is one of my sentimental ones :(

I ain't got any IPA . Well I have a few in the fridge .would Bishops finger work?

Ill just use a small drop of water and a cotton bud

Haha, give it the oul Bishop's Finger - what could go wrong. 😂

There's an Irish ebay seller selling litre bottles for 20 euro delivered. I bought one last year and have barely made a dent!

Ahhh boo. Cleaned up the board and removed and cleaned up the board and the 5 socketed chips ...same error

    IMG20250428211410.jpg

Suppose its time for one of those logic probes is it and check all traces ?

Some lad on a forum has same error and traces it to some random chip so hopefully he has done my job for me .

    image-2b73878ecbad88-9bf4.gif

Address line A4 was stuck low at the sprite RAM. It's driven by the LS08 at 15G which had failed on 1 channel only. (Of course I only found this after I had switch the customs out "

    image-143ebb99f374d8-f828.gif

Sure makes perfect sense to me 😂

Will check tomorrow when I've time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,997 ✭✭✭geotrig

You can piggyback those srams as they do fail but can also sometimes give false lows but probing may help narrow down the fault , but konami and rams as well as there customs do fail ,probably could be more than one sram as well .... Now your man changing a custom was a bit extreme and would have been my last resort,, me binning it ,😄isn't there like 2 or 4 on sunset rider's

That's a ram chip. Looks like a sharp lh5160n-10l sram. Standard 64k so anything will do.

Desolder, pop in a socket and a new ram chip. If you are stuck I can do it for you (Dublin).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Yeah it's a sharp . So what's the story . Do I just get similar 64k chip and solder in another socket ? . I don't have to dump data on it or anything first . Just swap it out?

Sorry again I've not a breeze about PCB maintance. I may need your help

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

A lesson learnt with the monitor anyway.

..never bloody leave wires hanging about that are live , not connected and have disconnects on them . I did have them coiled up and safe , undid them to get the test switch working ...one of them hit something and I had a nice display of sparks and monitor just died.

Just reseated everything to monitor and chassis and she was good to fight another day .

I have to stop habit of leaving machines on as I feck around with them . In fairness that's the first cab to suffer and I've blown one new laptop mother board simply just changing ram turned on ..but them is good odds relative to the amount of times I do it.

Unfortunately the laptop blown mother board was on Christmas eve and a present for my niece. Ya would think I would have learned

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Oh I did blow myself back a few feet against a wall messing with a flyback monitor turned on ..but that would have happened anyway if it was turned off I'm sure . I actually had a buzz and something similar to pins and needles in my veins for a few days .

That was another hard lesson learnt . Never wear a **** ring when messing about with HV. I had just got married so just completely forgot I had one on

Sunset riders, you could try turning on the pcb while holding down the test button. On a lot of konaki boards it's a handy way to reinitialise, it's solved problems for me before with boot problems

    1000113902.jpg

Just took the delivery for this right hand side bracket for the Naomi. The one it came with was split due to it originally housing the hopper and all that nonsense for Club Kart Prize but I wanted it to look as close to Crazy Taxi as possible and not have all of the wiring exposed.

It set me back €40 with €30 delivery from Italy, bought it off of the same lad that I got the front door off of as he happened to find a spare one for me in his warehouse.

    Score!

The restoration continues slowly but surely. I still need to fix the green gun in the crt but I'm pretty sure that's just a variable resistor issue which I have yet to replace.

I did replace one when I thought the issue was with the red gun being dialled up too high but yeah... Eventually I'll have this machine up and running properly 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Im fairly sure I tried that initially ...I'll get back at it tomorrow as I picked up compressed air and cleaning alcohol today from work .

Im gonna clean the bejaysus out of it tomorrow and pray

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

    Mmm yeah ...sexy .

I looking for a candy cab shell and came across alot of lads in the arcade game in Italy selling parted out cabs and bits and bobs on the interwebs. Seems like the place to go in Europe

Got the dreaded 'We can't get the arcade PCB you sold to us to work' email from a buyer on eBay.

Cue me frantically trying to look up eBays return policy. Turns out that even if you don't accept returns, eBay will eventually refund the buyer either way after a lengthy dispute process. So you're better off accepting a return to get your item back as if you don't and reject it, they'll end up getting their money back anyway AND will keep your game.

Thank feck with a bit of guidance they got it to work. Turns out they were using an ATX PSU with a supergun and a TV. Managed to get them to try it out at a lower voltage with a variable PSU in an arcade machine and it worked. Thank ****!!

Does have me thinking twice now about selling expensive items on eBay. There was nothing stopping them including a broken Metal Black PCB in the return package and getting a full refund.

The seller also has to pay for the return postage just for some added salt in the wounds!
