eBay changed policy a little while back on returns, as per usual favouring the buyer excessively. Depending on the category, returns are always accepted based on the return reason the buyer indicates. In general, if they say it's broken, it's an allowable return regardless of auction settings or region.

Commonly used to return stuff for free as eBay will first close the return and if you claim it was checked and working, they do nothing. It can get worse when it's internataional as you get hit for return postage, providing the label (you must purchase or work with the buyer to do so), import duty/vat and often a discussion with customs.

I questioned the validity of a return once, eBay stepped in and asked the buyer to provide video evidence of the fault. He took a video of the arcade stick which he claimed had a button fault, said video showed him pressing the button, no console connected, no means to verify any signal was working or not working, just an arcade stick and a finger pressing a button. They validated the claim and I had to refund him and pay return postage…..

That was my worry alright, I doubt the people validating/invalidating the claim have in depth knowledge when it comes to videogame hardware. And then when you get on to the nuance of arcade hardware you add a whole host of other problems. At one point they were recording a video of the supergun working fine with one board and then not working with my board, so I would have been goosed.

I did see there's one potential protection in place now for sellers. If you sent out a working piece of hardware and it comes back to you broken, there's a seller claim that can allow you to recoup up to 50% from the buyer. Not sure how difficult it is to pursue but I was definitely going to go down that route if my PCB came back not working.

I'm going to do some conversion work to my Arcade 1Up Tempest/Asteroids cab.
I have all the bits and bobs I need, including spinner usb adapter, trackball, trackball mounting plate, LCD driver and a PC to pop in there.
I don't really want a stick in there, as I want trackball/spinner/button only titles on it, rather than just another emulation box.
But, I am thinking that a subtle d-pad, on the side of the cabinet, might serve such a purpose, navigating menus with aplomb but no use whatsoever in gameplay.

I could split an old USB controller, give it a whirl, something small like a NES controller.

    Much experimenting to be done!

Then, it'll be Marble Madness and Tempest 2000 until dawn!

Am in the middle of buying a house and having somewhere permanent for cabinets with it, a bit of a spanner in the works last week one of the storage units I used closed so had to up and move probably 30 cabinets to another storage unit which was a bit of a disaster moving all of this stuff, thankfully some of the bigger ones didn't need moving as were stored elsewhere.

    IMG_20250512_194148.jpg

I also had purchased a Golden Tee just before the move because it was a nice cabinet and wouldn't mind a golden tee/trackball setup too down the line good fun party game, so finding space for that was extremely difficult too as everything didnt fit into the new unit exactly like the old one, but it all eventually worked out in the end. Am I right in thinking this is a Euro/Electrocoin Mortal Kombat 2 cabinet? If so would be tempted to convert it back, I traded my US Mortal Kombat 2 cabinet a few years ago (very reluctantly) so would like a setup again.

I've seen a few of the shootout pool's for sale in Ireland over the years, never played it but it does interest me to try one someday. 500 shipping seems steep from Italy, usually pallet shipping now is closer to 300, seller might do something better if you message them shipping wise. I was always reulctant to buy one of those pool games as if the game was no good/boring would be difficult to convert to a regular Naomi panel or driver.

I'm looking forward to the Mortal Kombat II tournament at Base Arcade Belfast tomorrow evening. I'm definitely not a dab hand at MKII by any stretch of the imagination, but I've thrown my name into the hat purely for the craic.

No doubt, I'll get seven shades of shite kicked out of me tomorrow night.

Now, if only it were a King of Fighters '96 or Virtua Fighter 2 tournament… 😉

It's one of those redemption games like sega Kick4Cash and Club Kart Prize… I've all the parts now to get the Sega Cashcube version of it together, board and cue and panel mechs … just need the time to put it all together :)

Ywah I'm sure you could just arrange your own . Id say would be handy enough to swap the Cp.

Still even at 500 shipping ..a Naomi to your door working for 1250 isnt bad compared to madness of prices out there now a days ( and yes i know it's sad I now consider the price decent this day and age )

I find that era of arcade gaming strange and unique in the early 2000's at the end of/after the Naomi era, you had an era of arcade/gambling hybrid games incl. those, Aim For Cash (Point Blank), there was a Silent Scope one too, seems most of these cabinets have been scrapped as not gambling enough for people who collect slots/fruitys and not video game enough for arcade collectors so not many around now so looking forward to seeing it running again eventually @BGOllie.

The pool game is interesting for sure, it's probably 2 bolts to swap the pannels but I just remember looking at a driver naomi before and thinking it was more complicated to swap, and unfortunatly true Naomi's tend to go for 7/8/900 now it seems depending on which game.

I remember they had one of those pool games in the Bray Bowl around that era. Could have sworn the pool cue was actually attached to the cabinet through a little hole rather than the green arse (!) setup there but I might be misremembering.

Quick and Crash by Namco with the exploding mug is another one I always associate with that era. Big Buck Hunter too. They were definitely skirting the lines between videogames and something else.

It was an interesting time as most arcades still had late 90s machines in abundance. I generally found people to be playing the older games more than these newer redemption/gambling type ones. They didn't seem very popular.

I have a very vague memory of playing Point Blank/Shoot for cash, I lost a few euro on it and even as a kid could see they were a scam more or less, I have a feeling they maybe did decent money for a year and then died as a lot of arcades got them at the start of the big prize/redemption switch, along with that yellow money capsule-crane type prize machine, Sammy Sports Station, Andimiro Western Train, etc. as I never remember many of these busy either, usually it was shooters time TC2 or drivers like Daytona, Manx, SR, Outrun 2, Crazy taxi that were everywhere and busy in that era. Always wondered too why it seemed Sega and many manufacturers more or less gave up on shooters and drivers in the early 00's, I think Initial D and some titles must have somewhat flopped in the west and console games were coming out better, but still given the success of many of their games it seemed like everything just went straight to redemption/prize orientation quick while arcades kept their older 90s games for years and years after, must not have thought doing more of those would be financially profitable as it was a changing landscape, the ones like Rush 2048, NFS, etc mostly felt sort of 'cheap'/low budget that did come out around then.

I never gave big bucks hunter a second look until it was in my local pub in Australia . It is actually not bad at all and I sunk loads of credits into it over time .

But i would have played and milked anything I came across then as I was it withdrawal . Australia seems to have a large arcade online forum presence , I never saw one arcade game north south east or west ..except for that . It was.all " pokies" as they call them.

So they same as the farcical scene here now

I think that looks like it's had an LCD installed, the screen is very far back from the bezel and looks to be flat. If it were a CRT it would be closer.

Might be wrong though, hard to tell from the quality. Be interesting to see if there's a working SF2 CPS1 board in it alright!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 98 ✭✭Musashi_

That looks like a Noraut Poker machine that has been converted to a Jamma. LCD monitor as well.

If it has an original Capcom CPS1 Street Fighter pcb and is Jamma wired then it might be worth picking up if the price is right..

It could well be a bootleg SFII pcb inside...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,451 ✭✭✭KeRbDoG

Looks decient, looks like an auld LCD monitor though from the picture - fingers crossed its a CRT that doesn't sit flush.

Reminds me I have a SF2 bootleg running 'Rainbow Edition', must try and find that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 983 ✭✭✭dav09

It is def a LCD in there and yeah Nourat Poker, theres a similar for sale for 80 at the minute on adverts, almost every one of these that have been converted have some sort of pandoras/60 in 1. Not worth 400 imo unless like mentioned (doubtful) original PCB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 98 ✭✭Musashi_

    I agree Dav,

That Noraut Poker conversion is definitely not worth €400, even if it did have an original Capcom SFII CPS1 pcb in it...

Now, not all LCDs are bad, but I seriously doubt that LCD is a 20" tri-sync Arcooda monitor that can output 15khz natively ! 😉 It's very likely an old PC LCD monitor, Dell or similar...

Might be a better deal, CRT and all along with power supply, just needs cp converted and maybe a pandora/60 in 1. Just be aware some of those poker games left behind the worlds worst screen burn onto them lol.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,964 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Yeah I could t tell if it was a crt , I've asked him...i gear it is an LCD with a multi board set to one game . but if it was jamma wired and even a bootleg sf2 board I think it would be worth it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,964 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Ahhh now I know it's not ,his other adverts are multi boards with LCDs 😢

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,964 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Yeah I got 3 pokey crts off Mitch before ..you can see the 5 cards burnt onto the screen on 2 Of them . But turned on with a game ya see nothing in fairness ..as long as it's not all white

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,964 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Arrghh rainbow edition...was in every arcade at one stage . Just ridiculous ..1000 fire balls and sonic booms flying about the screen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,218 ✭✭✭Inviere

All of the hacked SF2 CE's are broken trash. The only one I occasionally enjoy is M5, with the twin interlaced fireballs. I remember playing that in a few arcades.

What else do you know about that cabinet with the punisher control panel art?

Does it look original, like part of a conversion kit, is there a marquee?

Is it a dynamo cabinet, any interesting paper work or stickers on the inside?

    And what's your favourite colour?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭tonyotonyo

I remember playing one in the place on the quays beside the harp building, zangief could do the spinning piledriver from the other side of the screen and take half your health. Bit of a rip

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 983 ✭✭✭dav09

It's a Dynamo yup, from my memory of the serial it's a SF III Dedicated USA Dynamo converted, looks to be an official conversion kit from back in the day, great condition too. I'll dig out more info on it some day, I know the manual is there and there's bits inside but it's now piled in the back of a container since the latest move lol.

The Punisher is one of the all-time great beat-em-up's IMO, underrated game up there with Vendetta. Depending on the dip switch settings, the difficulty gets MENTAL (like scam level mental where it just eats credits), I have seen this numerous times I feel maybe that was the default setting the PCBs were on and feel its why a lot of people remember it as not a great game, the normal difficulty is very good.

Did that cabinet still have an original Punisher CPS 1.5 board in it when you bought it? Some score if it did!

Was it from an Irish arcade do you know or did you import it? Can't say I ever saw that one back in the day. Closest was Alien Versus Predator in the Stillorgan Omniplex.
