    Something about sandwiches

Ye i had it working last week with my monitor preset. Something changed. It was either the windows update or my wiring. After reinstalling multiple times and trying all sorts of stuff, i suspect its my wiring on the VGA adapter. It hangs loose behind the cab and i suspect moving the cab in and out to mess with some other stuff caused the wires to loosen. I was fiddling with the connector there and could get it to scroll horizontally, vertically, and both, by putting pressure on the earth wire, and maybe the H/C. Then i noticed the red wire fell out so need to redo the whole connector anyway.

Pain in the arse, for the sake of a quick game of bubble bobble!

    That's absolutely class!!!

Not that you'd want to sell it but I'd say she's worth a few eurons in that condition. Do you have the game PCB to go with it too? Any idea if it came from an Irish arcade?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Yeah have the original pcb..ohh it came from an Irish arcade... The 50ps 20ps and 1 euros I found insideare still always lined up on the cp👍

Got it off mitch 15-20 years ago, fully working for 300.ahh the good years where prices didnt make you rip your hair out

An absolute steal, nicely done. Always something a bit special about a machine having come from an Irish arcade, does make you wonder if it was one you remember playing on as a kid.

Very nice, a bit of an underrated game imo, one of the great fighting games and personally think it's better than the first, killer soundtrack too. I suppose 300 back then went much further than now, have seen some for sale for about 1k recently in europe but still a bargain. Also from personal experience/heartache, throw that PCB out and emulate it! Its not something I say usually, but from what I've experienced and from what I've heard from others they are more or less one of the most flaky PCBs of all time, overcomplicated for it's era, even with the solid state update have never seems to be a PCB that lasts for long, but if you do keep it I hope it works out for you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Yeah As it has its own hardrive I'd say she's a bit fecked... Often pixation and sound issues. This usually sits in it or other jamma boards

    Screenshot_20250617-143133.png

I must say it really has good performance and emulation, not like those scrappy cheapo game elf multi boards and similar

Following on from the ancestry research of a cab I've taken ownership of - question for folks, what is your arcade cab get/not-get/do/sell biggest regret?

Mine would be when I got 2x Naomi standup cabs back in 2011. I ended up using one as a parts cab and then trashing (in the correct recycling skips) the doner. I really should have kept so many parts of the doner, the loom, PSU, amp and more. Story behind getting those 2 cabs was I cold called (more like emailed) a person in Sega UK asking if they might have any older cabs like a Naomi and he graciously emailed me back to let me know he had a customer who had Naomi cabs they wanted to get rid of - I'd guess they couldn't trade them back to Sega.

    RIP cab on the right

That is very cool, often distributors cant take back trade items yeah especially older models.

Sale regret for me is probably my Sega Star Wars Thrilogy, got a mental offer on it I couldn't refuse. The cabinet didn't work on arrival and I actually never managed to get it working, I fixed the monitor, PSU was faulty then replaced it with a ATX one, then the board was showing no life, I think with the money someone offered, the heartbreak/hours of trying to fix it, etc, I just took the money, really wanted to get it working.

Biggest regret not getting, Sega Outrun 2SP Super Deluxe in Ireland, I actually ended up getting 1 car from it, but the 4 were available, 3 went elsewhere I think UK, I mean practicality and space wise, it never was gonna work for me, but still, the thought of owning something that mental, probably would have broke me especially being Lindbergh based. I've already bought more than enough incredibly dumb cabinet purchases, like my project F355 deluxe which I'm fairly sure fell off a moving lorry at some point.

My Sega Aero, I only had it for a year in the end and it was so long ago it feels like a weird dream and I never owned one at all! Had to move and didn't have space for three machines.

Only video I have of it running is this 10 year old youtube clip where I'd put a six slot Jamma switcher in it along with six PCBs.

It was one of the cabinets from that 'grandma's arcade' find in Japan.

The two things I was offered for great prices here that will always stick with me (but I couldn't take due to space) were an original Time Crisis and a Tales from the Crypt pin.

We should have a way of machines going to foster homes as long term loans if people are hit by space problems with their arcade cabs.

I think my regret was a working virtua cop cab for pittance . Didnt have the space at the time . One of my holy grail cabs now 😭

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Not a bad idea that , if it was done with a bit of class. Cocktail cab in a whiskey barrel . Look at the monstrosity this lad has managed to make of it . Good grief

Yeah, it looks absolutely hideous alright...

... And taxing people €500 for the privilege of taking it away from him/her. Embarrassing. 🤦

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 98 ✭✭Musashi_

My biggest regret is letting go of my original Sega Super Monaco GP upright type machine around 2004. As luck would have it, SMGP is a rarely spotted cab these days. 🤦

I don't know of any other Sega SMGP cabs that still exist on the Island of Ireland, unless I'm mistaken?

I still have an original SMGP pcb (Sega X Board hardware), so the dream isn't dead yet. 😅

I also regret selling my original Taito Chase HQ cab back in 2003. Obviously, not a rare title or anything, but a very cool game, especially playing in a Taito cab with the free-spinning steering wheel etc.

A friend and I were very close to purchasing an Outrun SP Super DLX around February/early March this year. It was located on a holiday park in Co Fermanagh. Around the same time I pulled the trigger on a fully restored and refurbished Sega Blast City so the OR SP SDLX plans were quickly shelved; probably for the best, and saved by the bell, as I maxxed out my space a long time ago! 😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 983 ✭✭✭dav09

I wonder is it still available (I hope not for sanity sake), glad to get one car it's not great 2 player anyway, better co-op, but probably would like 2 cars just because. Whats interesting is it was different to the one I got, and there was very few here anyway, honestly that was for the better.

    Dav,

I'm pretty sure that OR2 SP cab sold a few months ago…

Regarding the cab type, I think I'm mistaken - the single OR2 SP machine we were eyeing up wasn't the 'co-op' two steering wheel variant that you described. The single unit only had a one steering wheel. Is this version of OR2 SP a DLX, as opposed to Super DLX? This thing was huge - the same size as a Sega GRID DLX.

Despite it being a project, the €1170/£1000 asking price was still tantalising. The game was fully working and the cab was in great shape overall, but the original monitor was replaced with a 16:9 TV.

Also, someone butchered the gears, removing the original paddle shifter, and crudely shoehorning in a generic gear shifter to the right of the cab.. 😢

I was up for the challenge of restoring it, but the prospect of owning a fully restored and refurbished Sega Blast City for a decent price was too good for me to pass up…

    TV hatchet job..

That's some job you did there, what CRT did you stick in it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,965 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

a joker poker crt I got off Mitch . The first one I necked putting it in..there's about 5mm clearance from neck board to the bottom of cab as seen here

The hiss of death! to be fair that's an insanely small clearance. No taking that grill off where the circle is cut out of the bottom panel?

    Dude,

That photo with the Dreamcast, Moon Base cocktail, Astro City and the Sega Touring Cars cab all in one shot.. 😍

    I salute you, sir! 🫡

Picked up a total carnage pcb there, but it's missing the power cable for the sound board. And an audio pot cable too actually.

Very similar setup to other midway games like mortal kombat, nba jam, smash tv etc. Not all cables are interchangeable between them though. Might have to get them ordered in from states, but just in case anyone has them lying around, please let me know :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 98 ✭✭Musashi_

    Nice score! 🙌

Was this pcb sourced from a local/Irish arcade operator? There's still plenry of gold on these shores out there for the taking.

I'll have a rummage through my spare parts over the weekend, and if anything shows up I'll let you know.

In the meantime, before you go to the bother of ordering from the States, I'd ask the folks at UKVAC if they have the parts you're after.

I may have them ,from my killer instinct cab. Can ya send me exact connections needed and I'll check in my tumble weed of wires and connection and misc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭tonyotonyo

Ah no, nothing special here, just got it from france. Rare enough game though, it plays fine even though its a twin stick, the buttons on a regular cabinet fill in okay for the 2nd joystick. Just no sound!

AAsked On ukvac too and someone has the entire cabinet wiring, but I have a feeling its just a massive jamma loom without the parts I need.

Appreciate you having a look , that'd be great :)

YYou can see the parts needed in this picture here,

I doubt a killer instinct will have the audio cable as the pcb doesnt have a separate soundboard, but if you find one elsewhere that'd be brilliant! Thanks :)
