Does anyone know why Eoin Cody hasn’t played recently or isn’t in Portugal??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,271 ✭✭✭Marrooned

As regard management teams the present ones were all selected again without competition, and if anyone here thinks that is a satisfactory outcome they would be badly mistaken. The county board is lazy in this regard Acompetition would open it Up and then the CB would know exactly what they have . The U20 team on Saturday is the one that was beaten by Laois in the first round of the minor championship.

I would agree with you re management. I think when a managers term is up the postion should be advertised if the current manager does not want to continue in the role or has not won All Ireland during their term if they want to continue.

A few of people saying he's not in Portugal but no one giving a reason why or why he hasn't played in a while.

Is he out with management? Will we see him come championship?

Yeh I'd agree Offaly played the nicer hurling and looked slicker and faster. I suppose the fact Kilkenny should still have won without playing well and with some stronger players underperforming, and while missing arguably their best player, indicated to me anyway that Offaly wouldn't be strong enough to win it out. Was delighted to be proved wrong.

On Marroneds point re managements, I wonder have the Co Board ever actually advertised for expressions of interest. Seems to me the usual suspects just identify the usual suspects themselves and it goes from there? It would be interesting to see who would actually put their hands up.
Whether you agree or not that the 2 Marks deserved another shot, given the way things ended for both it surely would have been wise not to just re-appoint the way they did, but to open it up at least while still given the two incumbents the opportunity to reapply.

Did he play soccer match for Southend recently and is that why he’s banished or is he just injured ?

I had heard he was injured but the longer he was out of the the team and squad the bigger the rumours get unfortunately

Might be best to stop the Eoin Cody speculation. I've heard everything from injury, pneumonia, dropped, left the panel and just about everything else bar giving birth.

I'd be hopeful/confident he and Adrian Mullen will be playing against Galway.

Anyone else thing the Leinster U20 format is a bit awkward? Would it be better if…

    • Tier 1, all 6 teams play round robin.
    • Tier 2, all 6 teams play round robin.
    • Top 2 of Tier 1 into Leinster SF's
    • Teams 3 & 4 of Tier 1 play top 2 teams of tier 2 in Leinster QF's
    • Bottom team of Tier 1 relegated for next season.
    • Top team of tier 2 promoted for next season.

And because we want to develop hurling in the province…

    • Create a Leinster Shield for the remaining 6 sides.
    • Teams 5 & 6 of tier 1 into Leinster Shield SF's.
    • Teams 3 & 4 of tier 2 play Teams 5 & 6 of tier 2.

Purely to give them knockout hurling as well as another chance for silverware.

I know it adds more games, but development wise is that a bad thing for every county?

I heard 2 days ago that he had pnuemonia. Saw him in town yesterday and he looked fine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 395 ✭✭Krazy gang

Don't agree we were much better team. Yes we missed chances but the general play was very even. Not sure how you thought offaly were long odds to win it out after that match considering most of them had experience of all irelands at minor and /or u20.

On the munster games tipp will definitely improve. They most likely were overconfident as nobody rated limerick.

Clare cork was played on a tight club pitch, which was dominated by the referee. Lot of hurling to be played in that championship.

Eoin cody definitely had pneumonia recently and probably why he didn't go on the training camp. Apparently Aidan tallis picked up a serious foot injury which will keep him sidelined for a few months which is very unfortunate if true. Players will have a spring in their step with the ground getting harder and the evenings getting longer and getting into nowlan Park for training. They showed against limerick that they can play better ball into the foward but the real test is a few months time when the real pressure is on. Cork showed what can be done with 3 up top and id prefer to see kk back themselves and play more with 3 inside and not giving away so many puckouts. There's a few positions up for grabs so hopefully the couple of injured lads can get back on track and ramp up competition for places.

Best of luck to the u20 this weekend. Last two years were disappointing and have being discussed to death here so hopefully it's 3rd time lucky for management who will want to right a few wrongs of previous years. Cant keep using the excuse we were bet by the eventual winners. Thats why our underage record is so poor we are happy enough to lose narrowly to the eventual winners.Kk have a high standard and rightly so.i haven't seen the u20 yet but we know that the previous 2 years the half back line got skutchings two years In a row so hopefully lessons are learnt. The better teams are able to bypass sweepers but jeff neary is a very good hurler and reader of the game.i thought he might get more of a run with the seniors. Opposition teams all have their homework done now and probably get access to challenge matches and the way teams set up. The long wait after the round robin to the semi final probably didn't help but the format has being the same the last few years. We seen with tipp the other night there's no guarantees especially at this level. Maybe this years squad isn't as strong as last year but less of a crossover with the senior isn't a bad thing either. Eoghan lyng will backbone the defence and marty Murphy won't be risked if he is anyway doubtful. Most of these had success with kierans if thats a good or bad thing. Some of last years u19 improved last year as it went on. Matt Ruth improved his squad this year after the shock defeat against westmeath but it really is a good competition.

Jaysus you don’t want senior interference with the team yet, let the U 20 championship take its course and then if anyone thinks players warrant a step up then there would be plenty of time to do that.

Is Tom Phelan out for 2025 club and county ? Heard he needs an operation on the opposite knee that was causing him bother now too. Disappointing if accurate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 154 ✭✭Box to box

Tom is gone for the year club and county. He had a operation on one knee but should of got both done. He is gone for the year unfortunately. Hopefully he makes a full recovery. He gave us something different he was a direct runner with pace.it will open the door for someone else hopefully

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭neverbet

We needn't worry too much about that. Tipp,Clare , Offaly to name three will be potentially hugely affected by an absolutely ludicrous rule.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 306 ✭✭Montys return

I just had a look at Tipps fixtures as an example and I don't see there being any player eligibility issue for the 60hour rule...unless that's changed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 154 ✭✭Box to box

The rule is different this year isn't it? The match on tomor at 12.30 and no team released Friday evening. They trained last night and the team announced to the players.

On a different note another brutal decision James Mahon red card upheld. They will probably say there was intent in it but if that was a kk player none of us would be happy. The only thing is we see them clamping down on something every league, steps, throwing or whatever but by the time the championship comes around it will be well forgotten. A big problem seeping into hurling is players going down with little contact. It's probably being coached by management's which is terrible. Darragh Mccarthy went down a few weeks ago like he was shot. Fives last weekend. Clare lads are notorious at it.We had it again during the week in the cork v clare u20 match a chap got the line for nothing. Yes I know blanchfield and cian Kenny buy frees but buying frees and going down like a sniper has shot you trying to get a lad sent off is different. Another thing is players running up to the ref shouting that's a red or a second yellow. Hopefully this is only a league thing but it's not something I like to see in the game.

Cian Kenny should get an oscar for getting tynan sent off. Every pundit agreed zero contact made.

Assumed the game would be on TG4s YouTube but it doesn't appear to be?

Post clip there of maher and barrett going down with zero and I mean zero contact like kenny.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭Charlie69

Kenny took a dive but there doesn’t have to be zero contact for lads to make a meal of it or to feign injury. It’s creeping into the game big time with the younger players. There was a time when you wouldn’t want your opponent to know he’d rattled you but they’re going down screaming now, it’s embarrassing to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭newhouse87

I agree, but don't just single out young Mccarthy and ignore Kenny like poster above.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭Charlie69

I’m not interested in whataboutery to and fro’s to be honest with you.

I never mentioned anything about contact just pointing out other players who regularly threw or have thrown themselves on the ground to buy a free is all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭Charlie69

I think the poster that mentioned McCarty also referenced Kenny to be fair.

Perfectly fine just pointing out all counties have players guilty of it.
