First one Mo was offside after the flick header. Second one Francely was on the end line, the ball hit a Shels player but he would have become active from the initial ball from our player I think. Who knows how offsides work anymore sure!!

Mixed the order up, but that’s what I was thinking alright. Offside calls really are so inconsistent!

What was the story exactly with the firework in Tallaght.

Stewart threw it into the Galway supporters end?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,175 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

Fireworks/bangers were let off from outside the ground. Steward lost the head (assumed our lads had thrown it) and got into it with our fans before he was arrested.

Bit to go before we talk about POTY. Clarke, Walshy, Hickey, Esua all contenders along with Brouder and Slevin too.

Great win last night, super effort and hard work from all of them. Great the ref didn't buckle under Derrys pressure at the goal too.

Rovers losing there to Bohs is a super result for United. We really need to not lose to them now next week.
September is gonna be massive, bring it on!!

What a result, beat Shels all over the pitch for the whole game, should have been more than the 1-0 score line, but all the players stood up and were counted tonight! Best performance and atmosphere at EDP so far this season is say.
Good to see Derry take a point from Rovers ( never a pen mind).

Waterford have actually played one more than us. Massive win tonight, superb performance from all of them, I'll give special props to both Jimmy and Cunningham as the standouts.

I'd be happy with 4 points from next week now and take it to the last 4 games then.

1st season for me since moving back to Galway, and last night was about the 5th game I've been to see this season.

Definitely a gradual overall improvement as the season has gone on, but last night was really enjoyable to watch, goal or no goal. Defensively, the team has been pretty solid, up until now attacking breaking down fairly easily, but last night everyone played as a unit, in defense and going forward; Walsh especially tenacious up front. The whole time last night, hard to break down, and on the press as a unit, making Utd a real threat going forward. Early goal and a style like that made for a great atmosphere.

Yeah, it was grim alright and the toll of four games in such a short space of time is starting to show.
Still had the better chances in the game, and not losing is acceptable. Really need to bit lose to Waterford on Friday night now, as said above four points would be a good week, I’d just hoped the win would have come last night. Realistically it’s the fourth spot we’re trying to hold, and hope for Derry winning the Cup.
It’s hard tempering expectations now, so close to the end. At the start of the season we just wanted to not be relegated/ avoid the playoffs, but now we’re with in touching distance of needing the passports for next season! For me it’s been even more enjoyable this season than last, as there was no competition then, same as Cork are experiencing this season I’d imagine.

You'd think the other teams in the division were giving Peps Barcelona a run for their money the way everyone outside the club and fans bitch about us. Quality in the league generally hasn't been brilliant in years. l'd happily settle for Caulfieldball if it keeps us in the division for this season and next. A couple of years of low to mid table mediocrity is what I was expecting so this season is a huge bonus.

Let the club settle into the top flight, build the squad up to a standard to fight for honours on a consistent basis and push for a more attractive style then.

It's mostly people who see us 2 or 3 times a season saying it. They think all we do is spend 90 minutes pumping aimless long balls. Last night was the most direct, for the longest time in a game, in quite a while. We've played some really nice stuff on the ground in the loss to Rovers and the win over Shels eg the creation of Eds shot off the bar against Shels springs to mind.

Need to hope Derry win the cup and results go GUs way

Ya that 2nd half we were unstoppable, first to everything, we blew Waterford away and they'd no answer. Great to see. Can't wait for Dundalk Friday now and keep the pressure on the 3 ahead of us.

It's the best we've been since the Crowley Park season. I've was lucky enough to be there in 91 in Lansdowne and 97 in Cork as a child/teen. But as an adult this has been my favourite season.

A point up there might do but I don't think we'll get either.

Just never got out of the blocks last night, on the back foot early and we gave Dundalk time and space to play. Cunningham's injury might keep him out for the last 3 games too.

Fair disappointing last Friday, took a while to get over it.

Pats is going to be tricky, very much on form right now but hopefully GU get something out of it.

Into the very end of the season, three massive games!
All the pressure would appear to be off the squad now, in other forums and in the press we’re all but forgotten about.

I know we’re the outsiders for 4th now, but a result tonight would be massive in Inchicore! It’s great to be still in it at this stage of the season.

Last trip up the Dyke Road of the season later tonight, and it’s great that it’s the Connacht Derby to finish off our home games! It’s been an enjoyable season, and great to see attendance is going to be over 60,000 for the season for the first one.
It bodes well for next season, hopefully the club can increase that again.

Hopefully see out the game with a final home win, pity we just fell short of the European places, but that really would just have been the icing on the cake! The lads showed steel and determination throughout, and have been one of the toughest teams to beat in the league.

Great game tonight, super entertainment. We should have scored a 3rd no doubt. Shape and personnel were wrong first half, thankfully it was sorted at HT and we were much improved after.

When I saw the team sheet I knew we were going to struggle, there was no mobility in that midfield and nothing up front.
    We were way off it.
H/T changes had to come and it completely changed the game. Why did McCormack not start? Not starting the club captain in a derby is crazy, there was no direction or control in the game until he came on.
Great to see Essua back on also, one of the best players in the squad in my opinion, but unlikely we’ll see him next season.
Really could have knicked the game a few times in the second half, Lombotto particularly unlucky when he hit the post.
Quite fitting that it was Walshy that got us back into the game.
Great atmosphere up there, huge Sligo crowd fair play to them. That young lad at centre back for them looks like a good prospect.

Kick off this Friday away to Cork City. I for one am getting very excited.

    Very quite on here …..

Boards in general is quiet. All the glitching is very off-putting. Use the forum if you want up to date conversation.

Hopefully United can maintain the momentum from last season, it was most enjoyable, though I expect the Dublin teams to be stronger this season!

Anyway, looking forward to the trip South on Friday, it’d be great to get points from the first outing!

    Finally, it’s match day!
looking forward to seeing how the new signings fit into JC’s plans for the season. I think one of the most important players we retained was Esua, was very impressed with him last season.
hopefully the new attacking players are given game time. Scoring goals, or lack of it, was an issue last season.
Anyway, let the games begin! H’on United!

Cant disagree with any of that. We were largely poor but still could have won it with the pressure we were putting on late on. Hurley and Burns were particularly poor on the night. Dyer and Walshy linked well a cupla times first half but the service from midfield was really poor. Hickey in particular misplaced numerous easy passes.

One more point than we got in last season's opener so it's not all bad.

I was worried about McCormack's role this season when they made club captain. Seemed like a demotion and admission he would br overlooked for playing time. That will be a major problem this season. We always look a worse side when he is not playing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,175 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

Great night tonight. Super performances and win. Hurley, Hickey and Esua were immense but team as a whole were bang at it. Super crowd and great to finally win on TV too.

Yep, great night in EDP, the team worked extremely hard for that result, delighted they got their rewards.
Still not convinced by the current setup, although he had a good game last night I’m not sure Hurley is the right midfield player to hold it altogether. I feel he’ll just be caught for pace easily enough. But sure it’s worked so far, Murphy’s influence already showing in the formation.
Roll on next week, Drogs also having a good start to the season, would like points up there before Duff and Co come to town.
