The best part about season 1 was the mystery element of it. Are they lying, is it safe to go outside, is it not. I'm glad I watched it before I read the books as that gets spoiled very early on in the books.

There's some interesting stuff to come based on the books but the books themselves do drag an awful lot. Was kind of hoping they might abbreviate a lot of it for the show.

Best part of this is it's to conclude with Season 4 so means they will hopefully write a good and well concluded season 3 and 4. Having read the books I can understand those finding season 2 boring, I would agree too much time is being spent on the original silo story whereas in the books I found what was going on with Juliette in the other silo much more interesting. If I had to guess it will only get really interesting once we get towards the end of season 2 and into season 3 as more is revealed. That is of course if they don't drastically deviate from the books.

4 Seasons suggests they won't milk it by adding loads of extra non book stuff which usually ends up being a disaster for a show. Don't want this show to become the next Handmaid's Tale.

Haven't watched it since episode 4, is it still slower than a ninety year old snail?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,831 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

When people say it's too slow what is it that they want ?

There is only so much to reveal so is it too many episodes is the problem.

I caught up with this over the last few days so up-to-date with S2E7.

There's enough variation from the books to keep me interested but the general plot is following the same lines - do not read the following unless you accept the spoiler!!

If it continues, they'll be introducing some new characters into Silo 17 next week. The actual events have been changed up a bit (in the books, Juliette is the one leading the idea of pumping out the silo) but the end of the latest episode played out the same and I'm guessing it'll wrap up the same by the end of the season

As for the future - more book spoilers - again, proceed at your own risk:

Book 3 takes place in Silo One. One thing the series hasn't done is establishing that the various Heads of IT are communicating with the primary Silo and it goes a lot deeper into the original plan and history focussing on the original designer of the silos - even explaining why there's no lifts - so there's plenty to mine there for a S3/S4

But, it's a slow-burn series (TV or book) overall. I'm not sure what people want TBH. Part of the whole appeal is the slow unravelling of the mystery and what's really going on.

At least we now have some idea how long the Silos have been there and how long since Humans were last were up top. You woukd wonder how long thru are supposed to stay in them a them a thousand years,10 thousand?

Very disappointed with S2. Really liked S1.

I'll see it through but doubt I'll watch S3/S4

Does the series cover all the books with the prequel stuff mixed in or does it just cover Wool ?

Annoyingly I'm trying to buy Wool but it's rebranded as "Silo" with all the actors on the front which I hate. Even Rebecca Ferguson can't make me get over it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,376 ✭✭✭✭Stark

🤷‍♀️ they said they'd cover the entire book series but with only 4 seasons (we're still only getting through "Wool") and some of the later book stuff getting quite weird and them already departing quite a bit from the books I'm not sure how much actual prequel/silo one stuff they'll cover. Especially as Juliette doesn't feature in the prequel/silo one stuff and they said they want to make sure to keep Rebecca Ferguson as the star of the show.

I'm not sure if that was your question or you're just asking about what's being covered in the series so far. So far it's only included material from Wool and events happen in much the same order as in the book.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,831 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Ya I was pretty much wondering was stuff like Quinn in Wool or was that added from the prequel book. Thanks.

I found a copy today so I'll probably start in a few weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,376 ✭✭✭✭Stark

Nah Quinn wasn't in the books that I read. Neither was Judge Meadows. I think Sims was in the books but very much a minor character. I was actually very surprised when reading the books how quickly you catch up with season one. It's only about the first third of the first book.

Not sure what you mean by "prequel book"? There's a lot of flashback narrative in the main book series (wool, shift, dust, particularly shift onwards) but I'm not aware of a specific prequel book.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,831 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

The synopsis of Shift made me think that.

"Shift is the second arc of the series, and consists of books 6 through 8: Legacy, Order, and Pact. It is a prequel to the Wool arc"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,376 ✭✭✭✭Stark

Ah yes, you're right actually. The various time jumping/flashbacks in the books had me a bit confused but now that I think of it, all the events in "Shift" did take place before "Wool".

While I agree it's a bit slower this season. I am still really enjoying the show. The acting is brilliant, plots are interesting, think id just prefer a slightly faster pace.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,622 ✭✭✭sioda

100 percent this. The problem is at this pace I want more episodes 😔

Pretty weak episode. Teased the "others" last week only to barely tease them again this week.

Simms still walking around like an idiot who thinks he is smart.

Agreed poorish. Last weeks episode was the best of this season but yesterday episode was flat. And Juliette is she mortal or robocop. Fantasy level stuff how she isn’t severally disabled or dead at this point.

After the intesity of the final 2 episodes of S1 the opening espisode of S2 was a hugh disapointment and so has every episode since.

She's stuck in Silo 2 with that irritating nuttter (where it still hasn't been explained what his game is/was), we're 2 episodes away from the season finale and she's basically made no progress at all. She's been down in the water Tomb Raider style twice now and basially I couldn't care less if she dies. Ferguson's acting has been really poor as well.

The only good part of S2 were all the scenes with Judge Medows, excellent acting too, but she's gone now, so.

And this pathetc little rebellion led by that odd woman with the pigtails. Oh god.

It's so poor now that all I do is question the whole plausibliity of it all, something I didn't do in S1.

I agree series 2 is a whole pile of poo, it needs a really big ending to keep me hooked for a third series.

Pig tails turning snitch was just ridiculous, maybe it’s a double play but even still people got arrested

I found myself picking up the phone last episode which I never did in S1. It was poor.

Hopefully Severance S2 doesn't go the same way.

She loved her so much that she never bothered her hole to leave her wee shop and now she’s swanning around everywhere and being a traitor to her own people for a woman she couldn’t have been arsed to go to see for 25 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,831 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Well in fairness she wasn't locked up in the Silo's Guantanamo before.

Reports from others suggest she is gonna be tortured to death.

but then Rashida Jones also said 'display is a lie'…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,831 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Because she thought it was. She thought the green grass lie was real and the display fake.
