The W6 will continue to go into Hazelhatch Station despite what the map says.

Excellent thank you. Trying to plan a few Christmas meet ups from Celbridge with family from Kill and Newcastle. Looks like Rathcoole could suit us all😃.

I must test out changing to the 126 southbound for an afternoon in Naas.

Absolutely - they have a very strange notion of what a timetable is!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,087 ✭✭✭thomasj

No problem :) Rathcoole is a nice spot, some great pubs for a get-together just hasn't been the easiest to get to public transport wise.

W6 makes it a bit easier to get to and from there.

Allow yourself plenty of time - the W6 stop is to the east of Rathcoole while the 126 stop is at An Poitín Stil.

    It’s more than 1km away.

As much as it adds on time to the whole route, I think that's very necessary especially when running for a train. Makes the interchange way more tolerable!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,668 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

Absolutely - it’s very important that it does so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭Reversal

Is there not a pedestrian entrance on the road that would be no more of a walk to the platform than from the bust stops in the car park?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,668 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

No shelters for waiting for buses, and not really suitable for a stop - the road is narrow enough with a solid white line.

Having it go into the station means that for those people who live near both routes, they can catch either the L59 or the W6 rather than making a choice.

This surely can't be the final route though as it's not a loop? If someone is trying to go from North Circular Road to the Children's Hospital for example, this route would be pointless.

This is purely timing testing - we haven’t yet seen the final route.

I'm the biggest O cynic out there, and as LXF says, this is not a problem as the missing bit from the plans literally can not be driven in an omnibus at the moment so they are measuring running times for scheduling.

If the Steevens Lane / Sean Heuston bridge is unavailable there are some other solutions

Running the O down the SCR to islandbridge and down Coynyngham road will alllow a very near link to NCH when the hospital eventually opens and will leave Heuston punters with a bit of a walk up to the Coynyngham road bus garage - but Islandbridge and Kilmainham are both single lane and hideously crowded all day long in both directions , for a very high frequency service.

We need orbital bus corridors for the O, N2 and S2 at a minimum.

    Not going to happen unfortunately

Good idea. I wonder how many votes the Soc Dems will lose over this.

Gannon's one is under a little threat anyway. O'Callaghan has played around with similar populist nonsense

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,868 ✭✭✭jd

None in Northwood, as they are not putting up a candidate in Fingal West (Northwood was moved from Dublin North West to Fingal West). Fianna Fail may lose some because of Mary Fitzpatrick's strident stance on this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,044 ✭✭✭BlueSkyDreams

Plenty on the south side that will protest and not vote Soc Dem now, myself included.

Yeah. I lose out on getting the L26 bus outside the house now until after Christmas.

I won't be voting Soc Dems in this election either.

They can count me out on getting a potential vote from me on Nov 29th.

Mary Fitzpatrick is trying to represent people who will lose their bus - the 46a - to town including herself , i.e. the west end of the NCR - this is a vote winner if you happen to live in the area, as some of us do.

Oppossing a bus route where there is enough local outrage is generally more positive for the candidate than not.

I don't think transferring is going to impact as many people as claimed on the 11, but…no one, not the NTA or whoever, can answer why someone who had a direct bus connection to Stephens Green or whatever, now has to change at Parnell. And candidates know this.

There were a lot of negatives to implementing the e spine though, less stillorgan road frequency, a reduction of service to the north side section of the 46a, and worse connections and less direct service on the 19 compared to the 11.

There are frequency improvements on the north side section of the e spine and the 24hr service would be welcome, but generally it was a negative thing for most people. Some tweaks can easily fix these issues though

While the 19 is relatively easy to resolve, albeit requiring more buses and more drivers, resolving the likes of 5 buses fewer each hour off peak along the N11 and 5 buses fewer heading north out of Bray between 07:30 and 08:30 is going to take a bit more than tweaks!

Part of the issue is that they are using the 2020 plan frequencies which do not reflect the increases in frequency that have taken place on some routes since then.

It just involves increasing the E frequencies or adding some short runs (E9?) on the spine, needs more drivers obviously but it doesn't involved changing the routes at all.

I'm optimistically assuming they've looked at the existing loadings and concluded that they can meet demand with fewer, better spaced out buses (i.e. maybe currently you have a full 46A followed by a half-full 145 going up the N11). But I guess the proof will be in the pudding.

They need to add additional E buses for the south side of the route even if they terminate at montjoy sq, call it E9 or whatever. Spacing isn't going to make a difference, the spacings are pure theory anyway.

They could extend the 19 to Merrion sq and introduce the O at the same time and that would mean an improvement on all fronts.

As it stands the E spine is a downgrade for many(possible most) users.

This is old news I’m afraid - I already posted this fact a month ago.

We are still waiting on the final three approvals from ABP (Kimmage, Templeogue/Rathfarnham and Bray).

Positive for the candidate, yes. Not positive for the Soc Dems in the other areas of Dublin that have been shafted by the decision to push the 24hr E spine into next year.

Overall, its a heavy vote loser for the Soc Dems in Dublin, as evidenced by the petitions to overturn the decision.

There is very little social democracy in making a nimby decision, which serves to the detriment of the wider Dublin community.
