It's not helped with some of the residents acting as if Parnell St is some hellscape too.

Im sure there's been some reaction to the axing of the 46a, 145 and 155 as well.

Put out thousands of other commuters on routes that really needed a boost with bus connects, 24hr hour buses southside on the N11 for example to name one, all because some residents & politicians of one area have got wound up & have had their issues addressed as the 19 has since been revised resulting in a miles better service than they have now. Connecting onto spines and changing buses is going to be the way it is so they best just get used to it.

    Absolute joke of a delay

As I said previously maybe December isn't the best time of year to roll out widespread changes but the reasoning for this delay is laughable.

No it's not. Thousands of people transfer there every day. It's certainly interesting to see the SocDems push that rhetoric though

Well as this phase means 5 less buses an hour along the N11 during the off-peak, the delay might be a blessing in disguise.

We have had no confirmation of the reason for the delay yet.

    N11 was one example.

Perhaps a better one would have been the improved services for Bray, Kilcoole and Newcastle. Now all to be pushed back because of the usual political interference from one area involved in the plan it would appear.

January needs to be the red line and no more postponements

The official reason for the delay doesn't matter really. It's already presented as entirely about the number 11 route. Give an inch , take a mile, etc.

Launching two 24 hour routes just before a busy Christmas season would have been decent PR but maybe not that important or needed

I'm fecking livid! FF and SD are welcoming the delay in the launch of the service from Northwood, but it's not Dub NW any more.. :(

I get it though, if you had a bus route outside your door, why would you want to walk 10 minutes to a spine route .

But it's interesting how large parts of Ballymun and Finglas always had to walk that distance and the new routes, E and F, not really changing it. But someone on Home Farm Road who will have two spines either end and an increased route on the road, will still say it's not good enough

We are on the far side of the 11. To get into school in town, my daughter could take to the 83 (which isn’t great). Take the 9 and switch in town or take the 11 with no switch are a fairly reliable timetable. Hence she takes the 11 with heaps of other school kids.
For us , loosing the 11 it’s far to far to walk to get espine. So she has to switch somewhere at least once and doing that at Parnell street is not great. If they had introduced the 24 with decent peak hour frequency as part of the espine, I’d say there would have been much less resistance in this part of the city.
but yes all those delays have turned it into political point scoring.

By a school in town I assume you mean Southside? How far of walk is it for you to the E Spine routes?

There's a lot of issues with the E spine.

    • New 19 ends on parnell sq, not ideal for connections, radials should be at least somewhat cross-city for connectivity purposes. Merrion sq would be fine. The same issue with the present H spine.
    • The proposed changes would effectively mean a reduction of frequency on the Stillorgan Road.
    • The northside of the 46a would see a drastic reduction in service on what is already a very unreliable route

Ultimately it's a bad move and should have been properly designed from the outset.

Does the 19 have issues with connecting with other non BusConnects routes like the 7, 7a & 140 at Parnell Sq?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Sorry. Yes southside city centre.
from home to E-spine stop on ballymun road about 1.5km.

I don't see how Parnell St is a "bad place" to connect. There are a number of bus routes there and the Luas.

Nobody is forced to connect at Parnell St either. People could connect to the E spine a few stops away in Glasnevin/Drumcondra.

The main issue is that people who had a direct bus route don't want to connect at all. Which is absolutely fair but let's not pretend it's anything other than that

Even the militant residents of Ballyfermot didn't have this much sway over their politicians when it came to the G Spine and the 60.

if you take the 19, then Parnell square is the only stop to connect to the E-spine or other busses if you want to continue same southside location. Looking at school kids journeys here. (Probably small group in big picture, but my personal concern).

I seen an electric single going down the quays and crossing Rory O'More bridge and then back down to Heuston. Must be practice for the O.

Combining the O and E spine rollout into a January fave might be the best thing to do at this stage. Then all that's needed is to extend the 19 to Merrion sq and add additional E spine departures to prevent frequency dropping on the stillorgan road.

The 19 runs alongside the E-spine for a number of stops along Ballymun Road before it turns down Home Farm Road

There wasn't an election in the offing.

The Social Democrats and Fianna Fail have shown their colours in this regard.

The problems for me here are:

    • the complete lack of consistency of stops/connections in the city centre

    • although some routes serve the exact same location in the city (OCS or Parnell), the actual stop number is different even though it's only 5 meters away

It's basically impossible to figure out your best choice for connections - you just have to get into the city and go with your gut!!

Here's a colour coded selection of my options to get into the city. It's very easy get on a bus from Drumcondra, but figuring out where to connect in the centre is impossible!!!!

Rumours going round aswel the GAI are not ready,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,259 ✭✭✭Daith

If it is because of the 11, I do hope the 19 gets reverted to the current 11 frequency if it does end up going to the Southside.

But the NTAs inability to answer why someone with a direct bus should transfer, is going to become more and more of a problem.

Wanting a poorer service isn’t a good thing.

Irrespective of what the reason is, and people are putting two and two together frankly at the moment and making 5, the 19 needs to be every 20 mins serving the airport and the corridor needs the extra 20 minute frequency from Wadelai in the morning to act as a sweeper service from there inbound.

Reverting to the poorer 11 frequency isn’t acceptable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,172 ✭✭✭trellheim

Stupid questions : Why not keep the 11 and 46a and launch the E routes anyway. before people say "duplication" there's been a rake of posters on here claiming the N11 corridor has people being left behind even at the freq it has , and people like myself saying the northside bit of the 46a needs to retain service for the same reasons . The 11 isnt the worst route to retain either for the moment.

To some, the poorer service is a route that doesn't go all the way a previous route did regardless of frequency.
