As I posted above - this could be a blessing in disguise given the reduction in daytime buses along the N11, and especially the reduction of 5 buses northbound out of Bray between 07:30 and 08:30 Monday to Friday.

I’m not quite as optimistic but we will see.

The reduction northbound out of Bray at the height of the morning peak is what really worries me.

Blessing in disguise to whom? The day commuters?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,088 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

Yes - five fewer buses every hour along the N11 off-peak in both directions during the day and five fewer buses during the height of the morning peak northbound out of Bray when schools traffic is at the max.

I am all for 24 hour buses, but not at the expense of people already using the bus during the day.

And given the 11 replacing the 46a on the NCR it's less than half the frequency, from every 8 to 15/20 mins on a route that is known to be packed more or less all the time. Yes there is an "11b" but its only at peak and only at a 20 min freq, so not much use , and no use at all if you want to go to UCD

When I used to get the 11 out to DCU it was fine at that frequency, cos you had the 13, 36, 19a all making it very frequent and didnt really matter which of them you got, but that's not the case here.

Until they fix these problems, the E should not launch, or the 46a should remain which should sort out most of the issues except for Bray.

But is it full all the time along the NCR?

It certainly is busy for sure, but full?

The NCR benefitted from the frequency dictated by the requirements of the N11 if we are honest.

To correct you, the 11 and 11b will both be every 30 mins during the day giving a combined 15 min frequency, and the peak hour 11 will be every 10-15 mins as it is now.

The 11b is there to fill the off-peak frequency reduction during daytime not at peak.

Anyone going to UCD can change anywhere from Parnell Square to Upper Leeson St to an E1 or E2 if they are on the 11b.

Honestly, I really don't think that voters are going to be too bothered by this one way or the other, to be honest.

In general probably not, but then again all politics is local!

The changes have to physically happen before people really can pass verdict.

Most people don’t look at the detail of these things, and it’s only when they physically have to deal with the changes that they pass verdict.

Or they can get on a 39A at Hanlon's corner.....

I'm wondering would it be better to extend the 13 to NCR (12 minute frequency) and leave the 11 as it is until the 23/24 launch as part of the Finglas spine ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,511 ✭✭✭BlueSkyDreams

Agreed, the commuter service is disimproved. But the amount of folks who want the night time route into the city and would use that is significant.

Including people that wouldnt use buses in the day time.

What happened to the E9 from Cherrywood.
Also saw students in UCD were unhappy about the loss of the 145 to Heuston.

The night service is a nice to have thing, but the core daytime service is the most important thing to get right - especially getting people to school and college.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 293 ✭✭DaBluBoi

Anyone knows when the O route may be introduced? Perhaps the E Spine may be delayed further and launched alongside it if the capacity issues along the northern branch of the 46a proves to be a major issue (which seems quite likely)

In peak time, you’d be lucky to be able to get on the 39A at Hanlon’s corner!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,511 ✭✭✭BlueSkyDreams

To commuters, yes. To folks who normally may never get a bus in daylight hours but can't get a taxi home on a saturday night, the night bus is the only bus.

Also great for the night time economy as it allows people to stay out later and spend.

A fair question. Its always people standing when I see it at Phibsboro in either direction. and at the two Hanlons corner 46a stops there is always 6 or 7+ people waiting at both stops all day long on an 8m frequency , and as others have pointed out the 39a corridor is rammed inbound (and outbound) most of the time. Dropping back to a 15m freq 11 is not an improvement.

Am I correct in saying that the new W6 Route from The Square, Tallaght to Maynooth is commencing tomorrow morning? Hoping to get my son on it at Greenogue, Rathcoole (due about 7.09am). Or am I being optimistic for the first morning of a new route?

It started this morning and all looks to be OK on it from what I can see on Bustimes.org.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

    It started today.

Full timetable is here - change the day as appropriate from the drop down menu and click on “all stops” to see all stop times.

Regarding the W6, I think it's a bit crazy that they spent all the time and money on Hazelhatch bridge and didn't bother putting in any bus stops between Hazelhatch Station and Newcastle, leaving a 3.5km 'gap' between stops.

I know they're apparently coming at some time next year but just seems very tardy that it wasn't all put in place while the bridge was being done.

I passed over Hazelhatch bridge today and was expecting something significant. The works are very underwhelming they moved the lights back about 30m on the Hazelhatch side and installed a footpath but nothing is widened from what I saw, the footpath makes it feel narrower even. It will be interesting to see what impact running the full route has on reliability myself and several colleagues gave up on it after being left waiting an hour plus some evenings in Hazelhatch coming home due to the late arrival of the change-over drivers so hopefully that will be eliminated now.

I think it's probably a net vote winner for Gannon. I was on Home Farm road (I think it was Home Farm road, although my knowledge of the street names around there isn't perfect so it could have been a different street) a couple of weeks back and a good half of all the houses had a save the 11 bus sign in their window.

No, but we learn which passengers know the Bagatelle song. Just says E1 and E2 start in January.

Well the young lad caught the W6 this morning at Greenogue at 7.10am, due at 7.09am, not bad, not bad at all. Think this will be a very popular bus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 207 ✭✭Champagne Sally

Just to add it arrived at the Shopping Centre in Maynooth at 7.47am, exactly on time.

Frequency/capacity issues are the biggest issues on the new busconnect routes. It means knock on effects throughout the day if buses are too full to get on, as hour 1 passengers are competing with hour 2 passengers are so on. It also creates havoc if there is anything disrupting already at capacity ity service such as driver shortages/delays due to traffic.

The effects are difficult to capture as well as Dublin bus/NTA cannot count the people who gave up on waiting for a lift and took a taxi/rang for a lift/tried alternative routes.

“Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.”

Absolutely - it fills another gaping hole in the bus network.

8 minute frequency on PAs are busy. 16 minute PAs and SGs are near to full. There can be 20-30 people on board by the first three stops inbound.

Agreed, the W6 was very busy yesterday when I saw it, far busier than I've ever seen the W62.
