The 11 will be redirected to cover this when the E spine launches (until theO launches)

Thanks for the info. That will presumably be a pretty big downgrade for people who use the 46A from Infirmary Road, as it was a very regular route that begins service there?

When is the O due to launch and how frequent will it be?

I agree. It's quicker to walk between Newtown/the N11 and Kilcoole/Newcastle than to get the bus into Greystones and back out at present.

The L2's that don't go to Newcastle are to terminate at the Sea Road Terminus in Kilcoole, where the X1 will also terminate and where the old 84 used to. The longer term plan is for the L2 to run via Sea Road and Holywell Avenue instead of Newcastle Road through Kilcoole, however, no infrastructure has been put in.

This will probably be after the whole BusConnects programme at this rate, but I believe the plan is to extend the L1 from Newcastle Hospital (which is the current Newtown terminus) to Newcastle Village. Then, every second L2 will operate from Kilcoole to either Newtown or Newcastle, which would link all three villages together. The L2's to Newtown may have a different route number. The new roads to the west of Newtown where all the new estates are being built have bus stop kerbs and stopping areas built into the road, suggesting some bus route will operate up there (eventually) and I doubt that this will be the L1 or 131/133. The local Sinn Féin and Social Democrats TD's are very active and vocal in trying to get these connections I believe, particularly the Newtown to Kilcoole one, but the NTA haven't budged. There was also talk of a Local Link route from Greystones to Roundwood via Kilcoole and Newtown, but it looks like the Local Link to Roundwood will now operate to Bray via Kilmac instead.

While I agree they missed a trick, I think the bus could've struggled to make the turn onto/off Chapel Road in Delgany Village. The 184 struggles to get through Delgany as it is. Chapel Road would also be difficult to negotiate with the way cars are parked all over the place. Nothing some double yellow lines couldn't solve, however, with the number of wealthy residents there is in Delgany, I'm sure there would be a lot of opposition to such an idea. The terminus for the L3 is also already there at the roundabout on Chapel Road.

Anyone trying to get a rush hour bus into town along the N11 Stillorgan Dual Carriageway but before UCD struggles to get on a bus that stops as they are all completely full. I've read a few posts saying the new spine has a lower frequency than the current setup. If true I think there could be a severe backlash to this new phase, especially given the run into Christmas and the high profile scrapping of 46A route.

The main benefit of doing the loop around Delgany would be to serve Delgany Wood where there are a lot of kids who go to the schools at Lidl.

There will be additional short services on the 11 between Infirmary Road and Upper Leeson St to make up for some of the reduction in frequency.

The O should happen next year and is supposed to be every 8 minutes. It will be single deck operated though.

    where is the O going?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,792 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

It will be a circular route operating in both directions from Heuston via Parkgate Street, Infirmary Road, NCR, Amiens Street, Custom House Quay, Macken Street, Herbert Place, Wilton Terrace, Adelaide Road, Harrington Street, SCR, St. James Hospital and Steeven's Lane to Heuston.

You can see the route on the map above.

Terrible decision so our route to Dun Laoghaire is gone ☹️ No routing to O'Connell St or Stephens Green, the Luas is jam packed at peak time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,792 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

This was decided four years ago. This is not new news.

You can change to DART in the city centre, or to other buses on O'Connell Street to Dún Laoghaire without incurring any fare penalty.

The main drop in frequency along the N11 is off-peak, and not during the peaks.

the Average Joe Bloggs doesn't follow transport news and most haven't even heard of this. I randomly read something online about the 46A going and I was in shock.

Well there are going to plenty of more changes in the next three years to deliver the new network on that map, so prepare yourself.

How did you cope before the 46a went to the Phoenix Park? That change only happened in 2010/11.

The E2 will follow the exact same route as the 46a south of the city centre.

What's so essential about this Phoenix Park - Dun Laoghaire route that didn't exist until about ten years ago?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,792 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

People have a natural fear of change to these things - but for the vast majority they do adjust after a couple of months when they figure out alternative routes.

The O won’t be happening until sometime in 2025 so I really wouldn’t get too concerned about it until then.

Implementing a new bus network never suits everyone, but the key is keeping the majority of people satisfied.

Some good news is that, this week, all 100 of the first batch of new electric double decks have now entered service with Dublin Bus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 436 ✭✭Ireland trains

Just to add to this, the amount of people I’ve heard on busses this week saying that routes like the 145 and 84x are being scrapped is crazy. You literally have to read past the list of new routes to see which are being cancelled on the press release.

To add to that, there are also about 32 with BE and the next batch for DB are starting to arrive, though might be a while before they enter service.

Also interestingly some EA's, the single decker BEV buses for the O have been used on various other routes over the last week or so.

34 EWDs are in service with BÉ in Limerick, although daily utilisation there seems to be lower than it ought to be.

The recently added extra departures on the 37, 39a and C2 are rostered for operation by the single deck EA class.

Confirmation that the W6 will launch on 24th November, replacing the W61 and W62.

    https://www.goaheadireland.ie/timetable-change-24th-november-2024

It will go into Hazelhatch station in both directions.

I see both sides here. While the 46a extension to the Zoo is not the oldest route in there, its a solid route to UCD, Leeson St, Donnybrook and Dun Laoghaire from Infirmary Road that many use. This was mooted if I recall at the time to unlock latent demand and I dont tihnk we can or should be railing when in fact people do want to keep their single bus.

Also while the 11 is scheduled to replace the 46a northside - and we dont yet know the timetable or the 11b - what we do know is its only temporary and the route from Infirmary Rd along the NCR to town will be eventually withdrawn completely , and the only reason its not happening is the O is not yet ready to go , so its somewhat misleading.

And yes there was badly publicised consultations, none for this area on this route , but they were several years back . I dont think its reasonable to jab back saying there were and you're bad for missing it. Consultations should be timely and local Point me at an O route consultation meeting that was local to the NCR or the Phoenix Park/Infirmary Road.

I've read back all the consultations and effectively where this bit is concerned the NTA haven't cared a jot.

Looks like the L1/184 no longer has its connection to the DART in Greystones. A quick glance and it looks like most trains leave 1-2 minutes before the L1 will arrive at the station. The current 184 has on average 7 minutes between arriving in Greystones and the train departing.

Also, according to the L2 timetable, all buses will operate to Newcastle now. Over 20 hours of operating time is excellent too for a local route.

We have been through this before and I don't intend dwelling on it again. The network is changing and that's decided now.

When are all the new busconnects works starting does anyone know?

Plenty of politicians on the door in the next few weeks.

The 46a was extended to the Phoenix Park in September 2010 (which replaced the Northside of the old 10)

At Hanlons Corner, the B spine will run along the DART line passing near Pearse, Lansdowne, Sandymount and Sydney Parade

The B3 & B4 will pass near Booterstown and Blackrock. The B3 will terminate at Dun Laoghaire DART station.

The last car on the L27 from Dun Laoghaire (23:15) is 25 minutes earlier than the last 63 from DL (23:40). The similar with the L15 last car currently on the 185 currently is 23:30 now with the L15 it's 23:10 so 20 minutes earlier.

Not sure why the L2 is getting quite so early departures. Only guess is to connect with 24 hour services on the E1 but nothing reciprocal for the L1. First car at 04:20 must be about a 03:00 sign on in Ballymount.
