Ya certainly agree with that, we could say we could have won a few more in the last 5 years and you could say we were lucky to win the one we did in 22, we expected to push on after winning in 22 it didn't happen, what a game of hurling we had today puts that shite we have been watching last few weeks in the football in to prospetive and what a speech by the GAA president, great speaker and some ocation next week end with his son playing for Armagh, great moments in Irish sport.

They are glorified minor's who have failed to step up to senior level in truth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,591 ✭✭✭kerryjack

harsh, are you forgetting the all Ireland glory of 2022 that 30 other counties in Ireland can only dream of.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,451 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

Clifford will be playing in Fitzgerald stadium tomorrow at 5pm for Fossa vs Beaufort? Any reason to believe otherwise?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 447 ✭✭Piskin

Past tense..this team should have had 3 under it's belt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,547 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

It's could have rather than should have. They are a fairly poor team overall. They lack the killer instinct and the ability to close out games

    100%.

    Armagh aren't a great team.

This is another AI left behind us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,185 ✭✭✭awaywithyou

Tom sullivan missed an open goal.. Ryan in goals made a basic error.. that's 6 point swing alone... Kerry left nothing behind this year... can't expect to get away with making them sort of mistakes...

People calling for Donaghey to pack up Armagh now that they've won Sam and link up with Kerry... he would be a great addition.. however the Kerry County Board may not be able to match the ''expenses'' he's getting from Armagh..

How do you feel about being 5/2 favs for next years All Ireland? I think it’s short but probably fair enough that your slight favourites I suppose!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭orangerhyme

    100%.

We had two goals chances including the TOS one, around the 41st minute I think.

I'm sure Donaghy would prefer to come home. Maybe replace Paddy Tally with him.

paddy tally has been a fantastic addition… not his fault we give up stupid goals…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭orangerhyme

I know but surely Jack and the players have learned all they can from him.

I don't think Kerry requires huge change or upheaval but I think a change of voice can be good and Donaghy has a good attitude and energy.

It's a shame Cillian Burke is leaving for Oz.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,219 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

Has Burke leaving been confirmed? That would be a big loss but good luck to him at the same time.

I do think they could do with a back room shake up. Not sure if Donaghy would want to come in with Jack who looks to be a bit of a lame duck going in to next season in all honesty. I can’t see them extending his term now, and if they dont win the All Ireland in 2025 he will almost certainly be gone.

On another note, well done and congratulations to Kieran on yesterday. I was surprised to see him link up with McGeeney in Armagh but it has worked out great for him and the Armagh players clearly have great time for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭orangerhyme

I don't think Jack is a lame duck. He came up with an effective system to win us AIs but for bad luck we should have a couple more.

Donaghy would be a brilliant addition I think but he's probably on a high now with Armagh and will want another crack at it.

But definitely a new voice would be a good idea. A 4th year with the same people is a bit stale.

TBH, once you get to the All-Ireland semis and onwards, a management team makes it own luck - there've been too many times over the last decade where we've been dominant in games entering the final quarter, but between fitness issues, tactical negativity and being heavily reliant on largely the same panel, we've thrown away 3-5 point leads, which more often than not, has been fatal. Of course the players ultimately have to hold their hands up as much as JOC, but have our minors and U20s progressed to the extent that might have been expected - I suspect few would make that argument

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,219 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

I’m not as hard on Jack as some others but I do think he would need to win the All Ireland next year or the CB will be looking to move on.

They lost this year in extra time to the eventual winners. It was disappointing on the day but in hindsight it looks like this Armagh team were underestimated by everyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,547 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

I think CB is only going to Oz for the winter. I think he will be unavailable for the league but will be back for championship next season. A mistake by Jack not starting him for championship this year. If he was starting he might not be going to OZ.

Hiw long will DG stay around if treated the same. For all those lads complaining about Jack Barry we really missed him this year. He might have made the difference. Joe O Connor is a bit static or is that the way he is played. We missed JB blocking runs for Clifford into the scoring area.

On Jack he us slipping failed to make the changes early enough in the final last year. This year spend the league trying to avoid winning it ir getting relegated after he f@@ked up in the first match against Derry. Had 2-3 new players in the league and did a Peter Keane on it in dropping them for older players.

Of the present team, Murphy, Morley, Moynihan, Brosnan, O'Brien and Geany are questionable as championship material. Four of them definitely need replacing and 2-3 should be leaving the panel.

I agree. There'll be pressure on him next year. Win or lose I think he'll leave next year. We've a few contenders waiting in the wings. Maybe Eamon Fitzmaurice with Tomás O'Se and Donaghy.

There's no outstanding teams really at the moment so we should be going for the 40th until Dublin come again.

I don't think I underestimated Armagh but I expected to beat them.

They seem to have a great team spirit and good defensive structure and then they get a bit of luck. They were very lucky against us and Galway. I know you make your own luck but still.

I can't see them winning back to back or dominating for a few years. I think they'll be like Tyrone in '21.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭dobman88

I don't think we left anything behind us this year. The reality is, this team just isn't good enough.

Beat a poor Dublin team missing some huge names in 2022 with a last second hail mary and were lucky we faced a poor Galway side in the final.

Armagh were full value for the win in the semi final and I'm glad they finished the job yesterday, especially with Donaghy in with them.

The football looks to be open for the next few years so maybe we can pick up 1 or 2 sporadically if things go our way but we won't be doing 2 in a row any time soon.

Cillian Burke is only gone to Oz travelling afaik, not for AFL, and will be back.

This is clearly a very good and well drilled Armagh team but yes, I think it may be a case of them catching lightning in a bottle with all their players going well at the right time and getting that little bit of luck where needed, but it’s hard to argue that they didn’t deserve their win yesterday at the same time.

There is no team head and shoulders above the rest and it’s all to play for again in 2025

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭orangerhyme

They deserved their win and their AI but they definitely had a bit of luck.

I feel like Kerry never get lucky and have to do it the hard way.

Can you pick up tickets for hurling County final in supervalu?I know you can get them online.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,235 ✭✭✭50HX

Super performance today, well done to the ladies.

Very accurate in the kick pass & the let the ball do the work

The seniors could do with learning the latter from them

Hope they get a great home coming

A new hurling manager, an incomplete management team for the footballers (for now at least).

Milltown \Castlemaine scored 1 point in their loss to Dingle in the county championship yesterday.

Is that a all time record I wonder?

By the way Dingle scored 18.

Will these new changes suit Kerry, had a very lengthy conversation with a few great Gaa men, granted after a heap of creamy pints in an establishment in Killarney and what I could gather out off it was that we don't like too much change. Like you know what our northern friends are going to tell us, well ye free staters had to change the rules to beat us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,235 ✭✭✭50HX

    I'm all for change

The status quo isn't serving us well is it?

HHopefully It will reward the more skillful players

We need to up our game

Stephen O Brien and Adrian Spillane finish up. Adrian a bit of a surprise. Two good players for us. Wish them well.

We will miss Adrian, he should have got more championship time last year. We lack a bit of bite in the middle third

He's 30 now and Jack clearly doesn't fancy time for any sort of game time. Could see Barry O Sullivan going for the same reason.

Lads at that age aren't going to hang around anymore. The CB and management think lads should be grateful to just be part of the panel but that's not enough anymore for what they have to give up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,235 ✭✭✭50HX

Jack's last year, in surprised at Adrian, his bite will be a big loss to us

Stephen had great days for us & correct decision to go now ( prob should have gone last year)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,591 ✭✭✭kerryjack

Adrian Hardly got going with Kerry I always thought he was good enough to start and I expect so did he and that's why he called it a day

If you took the pints out of it it sounds like a regular episode of Terrace Talk.

    You called it right.

    Cillian has signed for Geelong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 747 ✭✭✭Forge83

He should have been first man in when Jack Barry stepped away. Jack O Connor has ruined this groups chances of another All Ireland. Spillane has stepped away and Joe O Connor will continue at midfield where he is a massive defensive liability.Killian Burke didn’t get the game time he should have got and he is now gone to OZ. Paul Geaney steals game time from players who could actually make a difference in latter championship. Yes I know, flying in Kerry championship bar the final but that’s at a pace that suits him well. If he is on the Kerry panel next year then Brian Looney should be too…..in theory… but seriously that’s a joke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,547 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

In 2023 he gave the young red haird lad game time instead of Donal Downes. He persisted with Tony Brosnan and as well. Add Paul Murphy into the equation as well.

Not really anti Joe O Connor but would have had Adrian in the HF line instead of Moynihan. Cillian Burke should have started championship and I cannot understand starting PM. We lacked grit in both 2023 and 2024. Plenty of nice fancy Dan footballers but no bite and ballot players.

Thought Paul Murphy had an excellent year this year, certainly top 3 for us in my opinion anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 747 ✭✭✭Forge83

Paul Murphy had a strong year in 2024 after poor campaigns in 2022 and 2023. Wouldn’t go as far as saying he was in our top 3 players though. If he was then we are in bigger trouble than I thought.

I'd say there would be a wide variety in "Top 3s" from 2024 across Kerry fans given how the season panned out and our flat performances throughout.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,591 ✭✭✭kerryjack

Great opportunity for Cillian burke at 21 his at his peak, and he can always come back, sadly the way football is being played these talented footballers are not allowed to express themselves on the field and we didn't see enough of him and I wish him all the best.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,547 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

The reason he coukd not express his talent is because Jack did not play him

Should have started against Armagh, he was our best player last year.
