If the aim is to host any championship game in Tuam then that effort simply falls well short.

They’ve essentially changed the stand from a hay shed to a cattle shed. They don’t seem to have altered anything structural other than the roofing.

Its a half arsed job that gets Tuam no closer to taking championship games from Salthill which was the hope of many Galway supporters.

Connaught aren't worth winning. I had to double check that we won last year's. That's how little it means. Bragging rights over the neighbours but little else. The AI is the only show in town and no matter how unlikely you should be giving yourself the best chance to make a run at it. Championship experience is far more valuable to new additions than it is to Comer, Walsh and Kelly.

Their whole plan from the get-go was just to replace the roof and the wooden benches. That alone is expensive enough work and only happened because of a donation. It wasn't as if the county board had the money to bankroll it. This wasn't done with a view to taking more games off Pearse Stadium and they'd need to do serious work extending the terraces which Tuam would never get planning approval for nowadays.

I've heard plenty of soft chat over the last few years about a developer wanting to buy Pearse Stadium for an estate but even to build a 20-30k stadium nowadays on a greenfield/brownfield site you'd probably end up needing the guts of close to €80m+ with inflation on materials.

Starters and subs for London, no Maher I see, maybe not traveling

Maher injured. And now Heaney and Culhane. Culhane was only on a few mins, banged in 2 goals and got injured. I missed the injury but if it's muscular you'd have to wonder.

According to O Se on comms it sounded like his knee was all strapped after he went off.....doesn't sound promising

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭Happyilylost

Walsh, Comer and Tierney on the field after the game. Seemed to be moving OK. Heaney after the game seemed OK. Tomo and Maher unknown so far.

Heaney news is good. Maher wasn't strapped and walking normally in the now famous big John video so hopefully he's ok.

I've heard McDaid is relatively close also. It's an unprecedented injury situation but youd hope we'd get some luck from here on. Comer and Walsh probably need the work so hopefully they're able to partake in this week's camp

You throw them all back in the mix and possibly Hernon also and suddenly it would start looking like a deep panel dare I say, full forward line maybe aside

    IMG-20240418-WA0009.jpg

Slowly but surely they trickle back.... McDaid, Tierney, Maher, Sweeney, Tomo still plenty of quality to add depth.

Defensively don't think any are missing?? So that would be considered PJs first choice pick (Hernon aside)

If the rest get back that front 8 is a bloodbath to even stay in the 26.

Kilcommins a bit of a springer.

What can you say. The bench is strong.

If anyone wants a discounted ticket for the Leinster Championship games, shoot me a PM - have 1 going for all the games.

Is it possible to watch the game vs Sligo? It's not listed on GAAGO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,391 ✭✭✭macslash

No it's not on any tv.

Listening on Galway Bay we might be better off. 3 down at half time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,324 ✭✭✭threeball

Even worse now. 3 down with 8mins to go. Shambles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 826 ✭✭✭Stewball

Lucky it's not - my fist would have been gone through the telly by now.

Jeez got out of jail there lads. We knew Sligo would be up for it

    Relief!

Too much talk about connaught finals the last few weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭Happyilylost

Hard watch. Very little intensity. Butchered 5 fairly straightforward goal chances. Think we went to fist the ball over the bar three times from close range and hit the post and wide all three times......

Full back line were fine. Half back line was poor and turned too easily. Caught for pace a good few times. Middle third poor. Too many stupid turnovers (this has been a trend all through the league too and it shows no sign of abating)

D'Arcy good. Kelly good. Finnerty clinical. Comer changed it when he came on. Other than getting minutes into a few not much else to be happy about.

Depends on what's available next day out I guess. But even if lads do return and don't match opposition workrate they'll be in big trouble.

How was Walsh's workrate and attitude?

If the rest of the forwards had Comers attitude they'd beat anyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭Happyilylost

He was poor. Or rusty. Not sure which fairer. Kicked our first score (classy effort) was constantly looking to get on the ball. Got turned over a few times but when he did he worked hard to try and get it back.

Kick pass to McCabe (who thought he had a mark) was worth the admission fee alone.

Quality poor (couple of moments aside) application, attitude fine in my eyes.

My only take from the Hurling is can we afford to leave Cathal Mannion close to goal. He's a terror close to goal...... but if enough isn't going into him he's wasted.... and while Whelan can survive on any ball Mannion wouldn't be as clinical when Galway revert to Galway ball (belt it as hard and as long as possible)

Good to hear some honesty in the media for once. Can't argue with what he said.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭Happyilylost

Other than Shane having a terrible 2023 everything else he said was more or less s***e talk..... but each to their own.

Team named. Interesting to see what positions they take up. Glynn makes it to 26.

You'd have to think that you'd get more out of both by swapping Concannon and Mannion. Seems odd if they end up playing as named.

Might have enough to put it up to KK but looking at that team only 3 would make it on to the Limerick first 15, Daithi, Cathal and Whelan. Add in a gameplan that so far hasn't played to our strengths and its hard to see them making strides this year.

We'll be in the market for 2 new managers by August.
