Lot of mistakes in the first half cost us against South Africa. We came back at them.in the second half, they got a red card with three minutes left but it took.us too long to get it down to a one score game and the last kick off was with time just about up. We didn't win the restart and South Africa held on to win 22-17. McNulty had a great game.

Very impressive that the Men's team will be entering the final standard series in Singapore next month without a single finish outside the top 5. I guess that's why we're second in the rankings and likely to end up there if we keep this high standard up.

Will be a bit of a sickener if we then have a poor final tournament in Madrid. Not sure I like this new format to be honest.

they seem to lift their game for the knock out rounds vs the pools so hopefully that continues into Madrid…and Paris!

Ireland won bronze in Hong Kong after beating Australia 14-5

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,703 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Yeah, France played great against us. We'll win one soon hopefully.

No score in the first half of the final, incredible defense on show.

Am I right in thinking Argentina knocked us out of the first 3 rounds and then France knocked us out of the next 3?

Singapore is on this weekend in case anyone missed it. Win against GB and loss against US for the men. Win against Canada and loss to NZ for women. Fiji and Spain up next respectively early tomorrow morning

great win against Argentinaand into the semis against GB for the men. We have the beating of GB so hopefully can make the final.

We really seem to raise our game for the knockout stages.

Women into 5th place playoff after losing to Aus in quarters

Brilliant win in the 1/4, nice to get that duck off of their back. In a great position to make final and maybe get a first win. GB have been class this round though, won't be a push over

The fact that we're still in with a chance of winning the league going into the last day is an outstanding achievement.

Looks like it'll be a very competitive grand final too with the field somewhat leveling out as the season progressed.

ref making some dodgy calls here

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,548 ✭✭✭Thud

Good win in extra time even with a biased ref. Never seen penalties given for diving through the contact area to tackle the scrum half or for dragging some one off the field. Then blew up the first half after GB knock on without giving us advantage and didn’t check a very forward pass for the GB try in the second

I watched it there. Wasn't biased reffing. Those penalties were technically correct.

Time was up for first half so didn't have to give the advantage

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,548 ✭✭✭Thud

dragging him over the line was part of the tackle movement. Conroys tackle on scrum half was perfectly legal, ball was out so contact area didn't exist any more, ref thought he was going to knock it on in tackle so was already blowing whistle when it wen backwards. pass for try was a mile forward

Great to get into the final, although Argentina winning (with the last play of the game? I didn't watch) means they win the league.

The difficulty in getting those refereeing decisions right and the subsequent frustrations is why I struggle to enjoy SVNS as much as I could. A harsh penalty, leading to a yellow card has such an impact on a short game. To be honest I didn't even pay much attention to the penalty awarded to us in front of the posts at the end. In from the side was it?

Feels like the Aussies got a bit shafted in the game after by a big decision at a major point in the game.

Two set piece opportunities to simply score and win the final but we failed at both attempts. It was definitely there for the taking.

Very unlucky. Should have been a penalty to Ireland and yellow card to NZ at the start of the second half

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,548 ✭✭✭Thud

tough loss, could have gone either way.

Nz looking like they are starting to find form for GF and Olympics..

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,755 ✭✭✭SaoPaulo41

Kennedy also taken out of it in 2nd half with his kick through.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,362 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

Compounded by what seemed like a harsh penalty awarded to NZ directly after.
