The Bug Club fantastic craic in the Workman's Cellar tonight. Mad little spot, my first time there. Certainly up close and personal. Perfect for these guys anyway.

Yeah, Craig Finn and Scott Lavene a very enjoyable double act at the Workman's tonight. Scott was a hoot, writes witty, sweet songs in a sort of Walk Away Renee vein, great banter and a lovely fella, got a couple of bits off him after, dead on. Don't know much of Craig Finn's stuff to be honest, never mad about the Hold Steady but I do love those epic American storyteller types, songs that are novellas, film scripts, paint a story of a life, Willy Vlautin, Burma Shave era Tom Waits, that kind of craic. Craig has a few classics. Messing with the Settings is a work of art. Lovely atmosphere in the room. Great way to spend a Wednesday evening.

Wonder, are Pixies doing the same set each night in the Olympia, or is it something like... Bossanova one night, Trompe le Monde the other and standard set on the Sunday?

They usually do 2 hour ish sets, so I guess you'd squeeze both in and have 40m of hits, just curious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,477 ✭✭✭Stillill42

Oh they'll defo play both albums each night. They don't chat, they barely pause for breath, they fit about 200 songs in per set. I wouldn't worry about missing anything.

Yeah that's true, most workman-like band going.

I think we got about 40 songs at the Iveagh Gardens.

    It was "only" 39.

Manchester was the next show. They got 41. Grr... 😊

Triángulo de Amor Bizarro are playing in Workmans on the 29th, tickets are 22.42

Decent Spanish Indie band with bits of post-punk and shoegaze.

They sing in Spanish, so if you speak it... or enjoy the language it's a bonus.

I'm going to MP for Green Day. Going there once over the summer is enough.

Doolittle show in the Olympia was less than 50 mins. Album. Bsides. G'night Springton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,477 ✭✭✭Stillill42

Feck me, is that true?? I don't remember feeling shortchanged. 21 songs in 50 minutes must be some kind of record.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,130 ✭✭✭Fanirish

Was closer to 55 minutes all in with Doolittle and 6 b-sides. But yeah was less than 1 hour of stage time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,406 ✭✭✭Wooderson

Slift last night was a bit spesh.

Great show, and worth saying tickets were around 20 euro.

Lions, Tigers and Bears was epic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,406 ✭✭✭Wooderson

Wild how it can be done given all the chat we hear. I can name a dozen similar bands that have never played here but should.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,697 ✭✭✭Dreamweapon

20 euro for two quality acts. Servo thankfully getting an extended slot of 45 minutes to go along with Slift's 90.

In saying that, I wish they'd played here a few years ago before they'd even thought of that bloated prog mess Ilion. Didn't enjoy it as much as i would have otherwise. The first three albums are great but i just can't get on with Ilion at all.

That was first night wasn't it? Fairly sure next 2 nights got some more hits but I was at first night and yeah, it was short.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,130 ✭✭✭Fanirish

    21 songs on 1st and 2nd night, 22 on the 3rd night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,113 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Ah yes it was Dublin as a whole got the shorter sets

Great gig by Rhiannon Giddens at Vicar Street last night.

A superb group of musicians with her. The 6 of them moved seamlessly between genres.

2025 gigs: Selofan, Alison Moyet, Wardruna, Gavin Friday, Orla Gartland, The Courettes, Scissor Sisters, Nine Inch Nails, Stipe, The Rocky Horror Show, Rhiannon Giddens, New Purple Celebration, Nova Twins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,406 ✭✭✭Wooderson

Kinda agree. Unmon one of the defining pandemic albums for me. Would have loved to hear more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 354 ✭✭T.V Eye

    Servo were good.

I didn't know much about them before but glad I got down early.

Enjoyed the Goth Rock influence in their sound.

Ha! It's the Goth element that detracts from their sound for me!
