How does that work out, is it a camping festival or similar to city festivals like Forbidden Fruit and Longitude, do you still have to book flights and accommodation on top of the ticket.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,774 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Yeah its a non camping festival

Thankfully we have the hotel booked and flights are priced OK atm

Anyone thinking of going to 86TVs in Workmans Club in Feb?

Only 2 songs on Spotify but EP will be released soon, formed from Maccabees who I loved. Love to see bands in small venues but wish I'd more songs to form decision but think I'll go.

Start as you mean to go on, Billy Joel in the garden, be rude not to.

2023 was my gateway back to regular gig going, my attendances having dwindled to a few gigs a year since moving abroad in the early 2000's!

Don't come for me - we all have different music tastes.

    Rick Astley in Manchester

    Eddi Reader in Cork

    Bruce Springsteen in Cork

    Cian Ducrot in Cork

    Niall Horan in Dublin

Les Miserables (is a musical a gig?) in Belfast

I booked all these before my back decided to pack in yet again so I doubt I'll make all of the shows, particularly the ones I'd have to travel for. 😥

At least last year I got to see what is probably my favourite gig of all time - Peat & Diesel. If they ever play Ireland again, I'll drag myself there somehow, they were absolutely brilliant.

2024 started for me tonight and what a start indeed 😁

The Bug & Flowdan in the Button Factory kicking things off for this year in a proper manner. Earplugs for sale on the way in is always a good sign in my book. Wasn't quite that loud unfortunately but a fair bit of bone rattling from the subsonics. Filled the venue with dry ice, backlit with a red light, coupled with a fast-pulsing strobe and then proceeded to bash us about with some heavy bass and righteous noise.

Essential festival booking imo. Would provide a wonderful antidote to the usual bland electronica or going-nowhere-techno. Make it happen BTP/ATN/EP.

Big on the all mouth and trousers scene

Tommy Emmanuel at Vicar Street last night.

Tommy was brilliant as always but there was constant chatter throughout the night and people randomly strolling around the place during the show, saw him twice pre-pandemic and you could hear a pin drop, has everyone's brains turned to mush since then.

Cracking night in Brighton for The Scratch. My plane was delayed so I arrived just as they started thank goodness.

The crowd, a mix of die-hards and curious first-timers, were treated to an awesome night of frenzied Celtic rock as well as a couple of haunting ballads mid set. The sound was excellent, all credit to their engineer, but could have been a tad louder for my liking.

They start their American leg next month.

I’m predicting huge things for these guys, they are stadium band just waiting to happen. Watch this space.

Ghostwoman, Workmans Cellar: A pretty good 1 hour set tonight from the two-piece. The singer/guitarist came out into the crowd on a couple of occasions for some axe-slinging. Musically there were hints of The Black Angels, some Western twang, a little Beak perhaps on one song? Missed a trick on one fast song that grew in intensity, as they ended just as it was beginning to fly. Should've kept that one going for a minute or two. Prodigious use of a strobe throughout. Would go see again.

Big on the all mouth and trousers scene

Fun show. Dunno bout the workmans cellar tho. Grim enough experience.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,581 ✭✭✭JimBurnley

I was there last night. Good show, they do feel like they've potential to go further tho, maybe with a bigger band rather than a 2nd guitar / bass on backing track. Enjoyable evening of garage rock.

I actually really like the Cellar as a small intimate venue

I like the Cellar. Although, if you're not in the first couple of rows it mightn't be so much fun on a busy night.
