This is where people should be looking. It looks like for that 150k, Noel Kelly gets paid 80k (more than 50% on top of RT's fee) Total cost 230k

Does this mean that NKM's fees are a std 50%? Does this mean that RT's published figs of 500k means NK got paid 250k on top - total cost 750k to us?

I also sense that there's no love lost for the contractors by the RTE staffers - it looks like they smell blood in the water

As Stephen Donnelly would say: "Today, is a good day"

No more need for TV licence fees as RTE have loads of cash to splash

    I have Boards though 😂

Boards is my only social media too - is that a concern?

To be fair, I do buy a newspaper twice a week. Old school.

    And there is TV3 news.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Exactly being silent is being complicit. Amazing how difficult that is for many to comprehend.

They do have the story up on their website. Which is pleasantly surprising but I suppose if they ignored it they'd be an even bigger laughing stock than they are.

I see he’s not going to be on tomorrow morning. Tough nut to crack for him now.

Be cool if they gave the we slot to Sarah McInerney or Cormac Ó hEadhra.

Wishful thinking I guess. Most likely some stupid apology and under the carpet I guess.

Its not just up there but up there in lights as the headline top story.

As has been alluded to... there may be some internal RTE politics in play here and a faction making hay out of this. Dont assume it is a monolith.

I think Terry Prone/Anton Savage (The Communications Clinic) will be pulling an all-nighter

RTE news has done a good job of covering this so far.....

I suspect Tubridy and his grossly undeserving fees disgust many in RTE....

Now is their chance to stick the boot in to the higher ups and bring the ego maniacal Tubridy down a peg or 2....

NK and Tubs saying “it’s nothing to do with us” is utter bollocks. THEY KNEW. It’s not like they were unaware FFS.

The questioned the figures part reminds me of:

Petition anyone... Tubridy to donate the money?

Seems like he doesnt need it if he didnt even notice it.

Just close RTE down now. It's useless anyway.

It does appear to be staffers vs contractors. Staffers have been taking cuts for quite some time as the narrative of straitened times has been presented endlessly to them - while at the same time management have been found offering largesse to a contractor many consider to be a lightweight, and lying about it.

While there is office politics everywhere, it looks like this place is riven with division. Good, I hope it consumes itself.

Yeah point taken about internal politics. The average RTE staffer probably has no time for people like Tubridy.

Utter waste of public money as far as this citizen is concerned. Hit the off button whenever I see or hear him. Doubtless those responsible have quite likely retired already on nice pensions.

I haven't paid the license fee in years and if I had been, I never would again.

I already hated Tubridy this is just the icing on the cake. Can't believe people actually thought he could go to BBC and do something there if his exorbitant salary wasnt cut here. I've never seen a British presenter with a lack of wit like Tubridy has that's why he can't go anywhere else he hasn't even ever made someone laugh accidentally.

Two parties involved. People entitled to criticise Tubridy if they want to.

Thank God indeed for TG4. Couldn't sleep last night so turned on the tv, there was a repeat of a documentary about Dermot Somers hiking through Nepal on at some ungodly hour. But it was probably the best thing I've all week and probably cost less than Tubs weekly pay.

    🙈🙉🙊

I don't hate Tubridy, probably have quite a few interests in common. Just formed an opinion years ago that he was shallow, inconsequential and self serving more often than not.

I'm not saying they're not entitled to criticise. Doesn't mean their criticism isn't being aimed in the wrong direction though.

Often disagree with you Strumms but you're dead on here. The man has oodles of confidence but no actual talent. Zero. He's the ultimate charmless man as far as I can see. No doubt he knows his claret from his beaujolais though.

I hope this latest Tubs shaped travesty puts further pressure on the mess that is the national broadcaster, a concept I still support in theory despite the grifting and indulgence of nepo babies.

Funnily enough, this covers it pretty well. I'd say the journalists in the organisation will be fuming at this so they might be well go for the jugular as the days go by. I'd say the work atmosphere will be absolutely toxic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,394 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Why is he not turning up for work?.

He must have something to hide.

Sure he doesn't take phone calls on the show, it's not like he's going to be put in an awkward position or get asked to explain himself. He can just waffle for 30min then interview some couple about their kids cancer and leave.

I suspect this story is going to grow legs. Will he come to work next week?

I'm guessing since they are now reviewing the rest of the top ten this is not a Tubs only arrangement - be very interesting to see what comes out of this and the blatant crap spewed out by RTE being shown to be utter BS

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,394 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

If you have done nothing wrong, why go into hiding? Why stay off your work?

He also denies knowing anything about it at all. It stretches believability.

So he's entirely blameless in this your eyes? And I assume you also think his agent is entirely blameless too?
