Zgemma H7s Guide

Bought a new tv and on set up tried to pair its smart remote with the Zgemma H7 but it wasnt on the list of cable boxes thrown up by the tvs menu. Any ideas how to do it manually, is there is a code that would help the tv to recognise it?

Also I really need to sort the box out in that at the moment my Saorview channels are in one menu and Freesat in another. What do I need to do to get them amalgamated all into one EPG and then to be able to order them myself. The box has OpenVix on it

Can you say image version and skin, go menu , information, about, and have you box hooked to internet/network.

Had a look there and it is saying Virtuosso Image Extreme, image version is 5.4.003 and the skin is ViX-Night-HD.

Havent got it connected to the internet but I have a yellow ethernet cable somewhere in the house to do so. Whats the jist if I want to have an all in one EPG, I need to download some software from somewhere? Read before it is possible to get an interface that is identical to Skys blue interface, any tips on where/how to get that would be helpful.

Also regarding the box is there a code I need to manually input into my new tv (Samsung) to be able to change channels with the Samsung smart remote.

That box is running an ancient image as up to 6 3 011 now and not to sure if its an internet flash on box or usb flash and you will need a lan cable to find out

@Muahahaha if you connect the box to your home network you can access a utility called WEBIF by simply typing the network address (192.168.xxx.xxx) into anything with a browser. That will allow you to edit the channels lists, create or edit timers. You can also stream live TV or recordings to your PC, tablet, phone or whatever on your home network

Box needs to be connected to the internet for EPG to work.

There are "plugins" (apps) you can download which give you the EPG

To get your TV remote to work the box you need to turn on "HDMI CEC" in the settings of both the box and TV . The Tv remote won't do everything , depending on the remote, but should do the basics (mine won't do record) .

The Sky interface can be downloaded from "skins" .( I'm not a fan of it myself, i think it's too blue and not easy on the eyes) . The Sky skin i tried had sections that didn't work , only there to look like Sky, it wound me up having menu items i couldn't select.

The box DOES NOT need internet for the EPG. It gets the data direct from the satellite using the crossEPG plugin. See post 1087 above.

@spaced thanks for the tips. Will give the Sky skin a go anyway if I can find it (is it called Sky or something else?), anything would be better than the current set up with satellite and saorview channels in two separate menus. Out of interest what skin are you on now that you find better? Also thanks for the tip on the remote, I'll go looking for that HDMI CEC setting to see if I can at least get EPG and change channel functionality through the tv remote

@Gerry Wicklow yeah the EPG updates fine without being connected to the internet. When you say 'network' my set up is just a TP Link Archer M600 with a few wifi devices connected to it. To access the TP Link network do I need to go to a browser and key in 198.xxxxxxxx and connect the Zgemma to the network that way or is it the case that just by running an ethernet cable between the box and router that it is then connected and I can go straight to the WEBIF utility

@Muahahaha Connect the box to your router by cable. If it wont reach you could temporarily move the router beside the box. The router doesn't need to be plugged in to anything else other than power. On the Zgemma look at MENU>INFORMATION>NETWORK and see what address it has 192.168.xxx.xxx (this varies to your own setup).

On any other device connected to the network, laptop, phone or whatever type the numbers above into the address bar of a web browser to access the WEBIF functions. A permanent cable to the box is well worth considering as it open up a lot of other useful features. It is possible to get a WiFi dongle for the Zgemma but they can be contrary beasts.

This might have been answered elsewhere but I can't find it. I want to repeat a recording for two weeks. However the repeat option only lets me give the start date and not an end date for the recordings. Any pointers?

I've got OpenVix 6.2.011 installed

AUTOTIMER = SERIES LINK

When you set autotimer, press green for ok and a lot of settings appears, arrow up and page 2 shows you, Record a maximum of times, put in no of weeks = job done..

To learn more go menu , timers, autotimers, ok, menu again and you get a walkthorugh, ok to start then blue button to page through.

You can use the WEBIF as a stop gap to change channels, read EPG, set timers and switch the box on-off. Assuming you have the box connected to your network, enter the box network address (192.168.xxx.xxx) into anything with a web browser on your home network. To change channel, click on the required channel name.

This thread is super helpful - I’m about to organise to get a zgemma h7s installed with saorview aerial and free to air dish - just wanted to confirm that there isn’t anything better on the market around this price point before I hit order. We don’t watch a huge amount to telly but the ability to series record makes this box appealing. Thanks for any advice!

When I was running OpenATV on my H7s and watching a recorded program, the front panel on the box would show the time remaining in the recording. Now that I've switched to OpenVix, I can't find the equivalent setting and the front panel just shows the time.

What am I missing?

I wouldn’t get too hung up on getting the one with the rear slot. The other version just requires 4 screws to be removed and it’s not like you would be doing it regularly. If you find either at a good price in Ireland go for it.

Hi guys. Thanks for your help earlier in this thread. My box is pretty much sorted now. I had a plugin called movie organiser which sorted recordings into folders automatically. Since updating box I need to install again. Can't get it to install from usb. Goes so far but not to the end. Any ideas? How do I ftp to the box? Thanks in advance.

If you press the radio button and box is set up correctly you will see radio bouquet. Press TV button to get back out. I'm waiting to update when all is ready.

Bit of a strange one, CBeebies and a few channels disappeared. Have tried to re-scan, scan went and they are gone. Any reason for this and how could I fix?

Setting up an old Solo2 from scratch no backups or restore settings.

I have reflashed to latest Open Vix image and scanning automatically 28.2 and i had seen Cbeebies Hd listed.

How many channels did you get on your scan and on what Image

Maybe your Xmltv needs updating to find them , not setup ABM yet

892 channels found for 28.2

CBeebies HD is working.

MENU SETUP RECEPTION SIGNAL FINDER, then for scan type toggle to make it say user defined, then arrow down system if it says dvb-s2 leave it if not toggle, for frequency enter 10818, inversion leave as auto, symbol rate is 23000 polarisation is vertical. FEC is 3/4, modulation is 8PSK, leave the rest, now press green.

You dont say image or skin but above should show up.

Just to add BBC are getting rid of SD channels and making changes. Look at thread Satellite New Channels.

I got one of these boxes with the ssd slot in the back. How do you verify that the drive is detected? Never used one of these boxes before.

If drive is detected Storage will be listed in the menu then follow instructions format / initialize and should be ready to record.

Is the SSd new and in fat 32 ?

Is ssd inserted the correct way when box is powered of? Then turn on box and recheck storage?

The ssd is new. How would I know if it’s formatted fat32? I don’t have anything I can plug it into.

There’s a click when I insert it so I think it’s in properly. Also only inserted it when powered off.

I dont know what they usually come as if it clicks in and held sounds like it is in place .

Will assume tape over the ends of connectors has been removed for it to click into place.

Power on box again and see if it shows up.

When i inserted my internal SSD i used the wrong connection port inside and it would not work , changed the connection and it worked as storage was shown.

No I didn’t load an image. I’m not near it now but I think the background image had ATV on it.

Press MENU>SETUP>STORAGE>INITIALIZE DEVICES

You should see your HDD listed by name (it might just be a serial number but should say the size )

NB initialising formats the HDD to the Linux EXT4 system and will wipe anything already on that disc.

The above was for openVix however in ATV the exact wording may change but should be similar. It may under something like HDD setup. Have you rebooted the box after installing the HDD?

Is there any way to install CrossEPG on a Zgemma (OpenVIX 6.3) without internet access? I'm looking to download something using my PC to a USB key and then install it on my standalone Zgemma

6.3 is very old but if you can access here why not internet, download as an ipk put on usb etc, ie manage extensions. I'm working on ver 6.3 right now but do u need ver 6.3

The ssd I was using wasn’t formatted so I formatted it fat32 and tried again. The zgemma is still not detecting it as in the storage option is not appearing on the menu. Also the box takes ages to boot up with the drive connected. I bought it from freesat.ie so I’ll see what they say.

I wonder if they will ask you to unscrew the top and see where those cables are connected to as wondering is the power is connected to wrong one.

Anyone ever had anything like this happen their box - suddenly pretty much any button press on the remote either mutes or de-mutes and does nothing else. Clicking 'TV' works but MENU, INFO etc all don't. I can't even change channel with it. I'd like to try updating the OS but can't get into the menu to trigger a download.

Weirdly my TV remote, which I programmed to work with the H7s still allows me change channel but the box remote itself is pretty much useless.

I found one thread online describing my exact problem but they gave up and flashed a newer version. Thing is, if I can't get into the menu system is FTP updating my only option?

This is OpenVix.

EDIT: Tried hard reset using the back button and now it won't even boot - just hanging at the loading screen, no spinning circle or any activity. Nothing on the front panel indicating progress etc.

Try this;

Unplug the box and leave it off for at least 10-15 mins.

Check your remote,it may have a short circut or a button stuck down, sending a signal constantly.

To check the remote'

Point your phone camera at the remote control ( front end ) and press any button, you should see the infra led lighting form the remote control on your phone camera.

Was the remote control working properly before you programmed your TV remote to change channel on the box

Hadn't had this problem myself and don't know if above will work, but give it a try.

had you updated to the latest version of Openvix? And have you more than one image on the box? And even with nothing onscreen have you tried FTP and see if it works?

There is a recovery method but not yet.
