Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    same here.

-Initially he prescribed Proscar. Then he came back saying some brand of Proscar is waste and I should go for another colour box. I have been taking the "wrong" one for many months.

-he does not like generic Fin. I can't understand why. Generic Fin needs to be taken 1mg daily. he wants to break up proscar and take 1.25 three times a week. That is 3.75mg instead of 7Mg when you take Generic Fin.

    - His prices seem a bit outrageous these days. PRP session was 350, whereas in other places I could get it for under 275

do you find dermarolling once a week provides you with the same results? i derma roll 4 times a week - it is a pain 😄

agree on dr nel conflicting info - he told me to derma roll every day after showering - 20 times at front and 20 times at back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,861 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

yeah with a 1mm you only need to do it once a week to give your scalp time to heal. The 0.5mm can be used more often.

I find with the whole disinfection process before and after, it can be such a time drain, so I just do it on a Sunday when I have more time to kill.

Have definitely found the hair seems to have more "body" or something.. hard to describe :)

Dr Nel also told me to use Nizoral shampoo every day, but again this is overkill... just 3 times a week should be enough (only use a teeny amount and leave it on for at least 5 mins). You can then use a normal shampoo/conditioner after as Nizoral dries the hair like nothing else I've seen!

Yeah I have to be careful to not mess up my hair when I apply it, otherwise I'm stuck spending 5 minutes detangling with comb and conditioner.

So I more or less "pat it down" onto the scalp rather than rubbing it in on the hair

    Hi,

I am week 5 post-op and noticed most of the transplanted hairs have fallen. The doctor said it's completely normal.

    Anyone else experienced the same?

So guys, I got this topical 0.3% Finasteride + 6% Minoxidil spray. Each bottle should last 3 months. 4 sprays once a day.

I got it via AddressPal. The customs did open the packet and one of the bottle leaked a bit. Picture attached.

Any advice on how to increase the absorption on scalp?

    Thanks

Possibly dermarolling... not sure if people tend to dermaroll and put Fin/Minox direct after though

    Maybe post in /r/tressless

very true. I found that as well. Maybe cause of the increased blood flow.

I have switched to derma Pen and it seems like a better product

Small update: I have thinning hair in the front and at the crown. I have been taking Finasteride + Minoxidil as described above, as well as using Dermaroller (1/day) and the Nizoral shampoo (3-4/week), for 4 months now. There is a visible difference in the hair density, nothing dramatic, but photos shows a bit of difference, and a couple of people who I meet only like once a month noticed a difference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,861 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

yeah photos really are a necessity... you don't realise the progress until you do before and after shots. Particularly after 1 and 2 years later.

    Anyone else using this?

I got it from web doctor (decent service) as I ran out of proscar and didn't want to go to Dr Nel again for that.

He was very specific about that I had to use one type of Proscar. I had no side effects with Proscar so hoping the same for this.

However, 8 months of Proscar, loniten and derma rolling every few days has done nothing for me unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,643 ✭✭✭victor8600

I was using it until recently (I switched to Proscar now that it is available again).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,861 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

Any GP can prescribe Proscar and (as I've now discovered) Loniten... plus you can get Proscar prescriptions from https://www.careoncall.ie/ for free if you have Laya health insurance (or webdoctor.ie if you don't)

I asked my GP to renew my Loniten prescription (showed him the box I currently have)

Saves me the trip to Swords, plus I think he can renew if I just ask them over the phone and don't need to pay him a visit (no charge).

Any recommendations for a specific comb after hair transplant?

I saw combs with massage (vibration) feature that may promote hair growth.

    Thanks

Hey lads, has anyone here had a transplant with GrowClub? I have had two chats with them and they seem pretty bang on, they do one surgery a day and the doctor carries it out.

It all seems very legit and the price is great (especially for Ireland), they also don't quote you crazy amount of grafts and have said they really focus on not over harvesting.

I wanted to also do a consultation with Dr Nel but even his consultations are booked up for the next 6 months.

    Website is here

I was also going to ask about Growclub now they are doing treatments in Ireland. The doctor is Dr. Fotis Garagounis, does anyone know anything about him?

Hey any chance you could send on a link where you ordered the dermaroller? Pm if necessary

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,861 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

weirdly enough I can't find the order details in my emails... thought for sure I got it off Amazon but I guess not.

Anyway you can prob get from Amazon. Check reviews.

Any recommendations for hair oil or shampoo after hair transplant?

I am using topical fin/Minox already. I am week 6 post hair transplant and noticing new strands of hairs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,861 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

Nizoral 3 times a week is what Dr Nel recommended, so I started on that, although make sure you only use a fingernail amount as it's pricey stuff.

Probably just use baby shampoo for a while after the hair transplant though. Nizoral would be too strong.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I see it's an antifungal agent.

I am looking for natural compounds based products like aloe Vera shampoo or argan oil.

Anyone else experiencing significantly decreased libido on 1mg fin 3 times week?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭waynescales1

Common side effect experienced by a large minority of finasteride users. Might subside after a while, might not.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,034 ✭✭✭Swaine

I'm on it 3 months now and for sure have experienced times where I find it difficult to get hard and also pretty weak ejaculation (dribbles out).

I'm not sure I can take this for much longer if there's no improvement. Doesn't seem worth it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,531 ✭✭✭HBC08

I was on it for 8 years (5mg divided into 4 so 1.25mg per day)

I went off it to try to have kids and never went back on it.

I had manageable side effects (watery semen, ball ache, nipple pains, man boobs)

Not everyday but often, people need to realise finesteride is a serious drug that alters your hormones.Lads on fb groups saying "nah mate,I'm on it 12 months and no sides, all in your head" haven't a clue.

I was on it 4-5 years before I got any noticeable sides. It might not happen straight away and it might not happen at all but finesteride isn't good for you.

Having said that there are things you can do like reducing the dosage or trying topical.Im not back on it yet but will consider trying some of the above after 2nd )and final ht in a few months.

I actually spoke to my doctor about it and he told me a lot of that is the placebo effect and he assured me that side effects are very rare but ejaculation will be reduced and it was a totally safe drug. I have been on 1 mg a day for a month now and haven't noticed anything as of yet. I actually seem hornier for some reason lol.. I have a mate who has been on it 10 years 1 mg a day too and he told me you dont ejaculate as much but thats it (sperm is reduced).

Messing with DHT can also affect the reward system in your brain/motivations/satisfaction from doing tasks. DHT does play various roles in your body. Everybody’s brain chemistry is different so changing DHT levels can have with little to no side effects or substantial effects.

  • Registered Users Posts: 22 Ceolaguscraic

I started on it around a month and a half ago. 3 days a week (M,W,F 1mg) and have noticed my libido and drive has really waned.Barely get sex drive anymore and have to force a w**k. The only reason I began taking it is because most say hair transplants aren't worth it without taking it. Do you think a hair transplant can do a good job without fin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 212 ✭✭wetlandsboy

Short answer: absolutely not! I had a HT about 10 years’ ago (3800 grafts) and didn’t take a medications (fin, min) post op. My native hair receded and the transplanted hair density reduced. Basically, my lack of attention to this means that my next HT will just be trying to supplement my previous HT, and won’t be adding to overall coverage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭waynescales1

And that is why most reputable HT doctors won't touch a hair on a patient's head until they have been taking Finasteride for at least a year. You shouldn't get a HT if you don't know whether you can or will take Finasteride afterwards, and, whether it will be effective for you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 989 ✭✭✭suave.4u

have you reached a stage that i is obvious that you have done a HT procedure? If the native hair has receded further, the HT would become more obvious I would assume.

I am on Fin for the last 10 years. Firsty was on generic fin, then on proscar (1.25mg daily). I do not have any major side effects so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 212 ✭✭wetlandsboy

No, it is not particularly obvious; it just looks like male pattern baldness now. I am on fin and min and am using the dermaroller/shampoo in preparation for my next HT. I’ve being doing this for the last 5 months and notice some improvements in hair density, so a positive sign, I suppose.

  • Registered Users Posts: 545 ✭✭✭zeebre12

Where do you get your Proscar that you can take 1.25mg daily?

  • Registered Users Posts: 989 ✭✭✭suave.4u

I bought some online from UK when I was there.

Now not sure where to get it here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,861 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

Proscar? Just pop to your local Lloyds or whatever :)

Pretty sure @zeebre12 was told this about 100 times?

  • Registered Users Posts: 545 ✭✭✭zeebre12

But isn't there different types of Finasteride? Some like webdoctor offer Fintrid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,861 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

Webdoctor say Fintrid or Proscar... they give you a prescription and then you can even decide which one you want when you go to pick it up as they the same ingredient essentially.

    https://www.webdoctor.ie/pages/hair-loss-finasteride/

    Most pharmacies would stock Proscar.

I’m a Norwood 7, been speaking with Eugenix for a while, I’d need a donor and beard graft and then body hair at a later point-more than enough body hair for it all tbh 😂

I’m in India for work a bit, very tempted to bite the bullet on it tbh

Just curious if anyone has ever heard much of Low Laser light therapy?

My instant reaction was scepticism but Ive been reading for the last hour about it, mostly clinical trials etc and being going through tonnes of reviews on trust pilot for some brands, I usually like to focus on what the bad ones are saying first. Overall, while its far from a miracle cure it does seem fairly legitimate with a high % of positive reviews.

Im probably a Norwood 3 to 4ish and am not looking for any major changes, just some filling out of the crown. That's probably why its appealing to me.

    EDIT: removed specific link

When it comes to hts and more specifically trustpilot it's best to completely ignore.

I know you're talking about a product rather than a clinic but if a clinic are pushing themselves on trust pilot or referring to it on their site etc I'd run a mile.
