Any good M2 SSDs offers this year? The one I got last year stopped working after about the second time I tried adding something to it.

I just happened to be looking at this on Amazon for £97 bucks, same one in Argos for €119.....whether its a good deal, well I'm sure someone more in the know will let us know.

Nice find. Think that drive has good reviews from people here who have it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,184 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Just picked up that drive and paying with Revolut got me €3.60 back by activating the offer in the app before paying.

I know it shouldn't but it surprises me how small the drive is. I keep expecting something bigger.

Just renewed my Plus for €45 and debating paying another €32 to upgrade to Extra until December 25th next year.

I've not even turned on the PS5 in 4 months so probably wasting money at this stage. Although I did buy a new Dualsense last week 😁

Oh definitely not going near premium. I really don't see the extra benefit in that tier.

Hi all. After getting the kid thee console for Christmas, after reading a bit it seems the extra membership is probably the best option?

Also, is it best to buy it now with a black Friday deal, as in I only want to activate it at Christmas?

Obvs I haven't set up any accounts for PS yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,574 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

First off make sure you turn on the PS5 and do all the updates before Christmas because trying on the day can be a nightmare.

The Extra sub will start straight away. You can't get a prepaid code for it as far as I know. So it'll be buy now at 25% off or buy on Christmas day. If it was me I'd get it now a d download a few games and have them ready to go for Christmas morning.

Buy it now, while you'll lose 1 month of the sub you will save €25 over getting it next month.

Sound. Thanks for the advice folks 👍🏻

    I'm in the same boat.

Had a look at the list of games in Extra and Demon Souls remake is the only one I'm thinking id like to play immediately so not sure its worth it in my case.

Same here. I upgraded to Extra. Playing Stray now and was going to play AC Valhalla next but it is leaving 20th December. There are still enough games on Extra to make it worth my money.

Not worth it at the normal price but it's the 25% off is making it attractive. There's a good few Indies that I'd definitely play there but would never buy.

I was hoping a game featuring the Bellic cousins would be added to premium. I feel sad now cousin 😓

Ha, same. The box makes it look about the size I was expecting it to be...but its not, its tiny 😆

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,184 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

After installing the new drive, I was just going through some games to download. It's strange how some games are smaller with the PS5 version than the PS4 version. The Gardens Between is about half the size.

I know it's to do with how PS5 uses compression or something but it's still strange.

Sony getting better with offering Game Trials.

Tried Olli Olli World, WWE 2K22 and NBA 2K23 this month.

They've added Ghostwire Toyko (beaten already), Skywalker Saga and Sniper Elite 5 this week.

Hopefully they'll put up NFS Unbound and Callisto Protocol.

    Sniper Elite 5 is excellent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,081 ✭✭✭sniper_samurai

Unbound trial is tied to EA Play and became available on Tuesday. Don't expect any EA games to have game trials or games available as part of the Extra or Premium tiers of PS+. The only way this will change is if they strike a deal with EA to add Play to the Premium subscription like it is with GPU on Xbox/PC.

Was the first sniper game I played in the series and I was a bit disappointed by the fact that I could barely use my sniper rifle, it seemed like almost every time I used it, it brought every single enemy in the area down on me and completely limited my options going forward after everyone was alerted. Maybe I was playing the game wrong or something, but I mostly crawled around and used my silenced pistol, while still fun it wasn't really what I had signed up for.

Yeah I agree. I enjoyed the game but the sniper rifle was somewhat useless. Snipe someone from a tower and then every enemy with a square mile was alerted to your position surrounding the tower. I get that there's a level of realism there but they should have given more opportunities to mask the sound otherwise its a bang average third-person shooter.

It’s a decent, old-school, PC-style action game with a nice degree of openness and cool levels, but it’s a world away from the sniping roots of the series. I’ve never played previous games, but they’re definitely more ‘sniper’ games than this one from everything I’ve seen. I played through the (big!) first level and sniping is a viable but entirely optional approach. It’s a stealth action sandbox game, sort of a Hitman or MGS5 lite type of deal.

Are you not supposed to wait for distractions? Least that how I remember it working in 4.

A plane would fly over periodically masking your shots etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭Markitron

There are a few spots in the game where you can reliably anticipate overhead planes etc and take up a decent position, but most of the time you get an opportunity like this it has come and gone before you can line up an appropriate target and take the shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,036 ✭✭✭✭duploelabs

Well if you want it quickly and arcade then you can adjust the settings, but isn't that the realism of being a sniper is waiting for the exact moment to pull off the perfect shot?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,525 ✭✭✭RedXIV

Only danger of this with those games and that level of realism is the sheer size of the levels. I played 4 and honestly sank about 2 hours into the first level taking folks out and then got locked into a checkpoint of death where I would spawn with enemies firing at me. Honestly couldn't bring myself to put the effort into that first level again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,504 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

As Markitron said, the opportunities are few and far between unfortunately. The levels are so large yet partitioned so you end up in small areas where the farthest you can get is sniping someone from 50foot away. I remember the last game where they had plenty of passing boats, cars or planes that you could wait it out until the right moment to mask a shot but there are areas in this where there is nothing and sometimes even when there is a noise, it's still heard in the distance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 324 ✭✭MikeRyan87

Callisto Protocol reviews not as good as expected which is disappointing.

Might still get it. 55e in Smyth's compared to 70e in GameStop.

Everything leading up to it has put me off a bit. Late review embargo, developer talking about the team doing crunch time, a season pass and updates for death animations. Sounds quite glitchy too so hopefully they give it a bit more polish.

There's a lot of hype around it so I'm taking everything with a pinch of salt. I'll probably wait a few months and consider it at €40-50. Also keeping an eye on Dead Space.
