TBH if all cross-gen games ran as well on PS5 as Ragnarok does I’d be happy for PS4 to stick around for a while yet. It runs like a dream on PS5 with high frame rate enabled, more like a full-fat, no compromises PC port than anything. Yes it’s not exactly cutting edge, but it looks stunning and runs spectacularly well. There’s some last gen holdovers for sure, but hard to object to how smooth the game runs.

I am of course interested to see what happens when Unreal Engine 5 games start pushing hardware and introducing really heavy new tech. I’m always interested in seeing where graphics are going and what can be done with bleeding edge new techniques. But TBH given the choice between cutting edge graphics at 30 FPS and just really, really good graphics running at 100 FPS… I’d almost always take the latter.

I'm over half way and there's definitely way too many of them.

    Agreed.I've been playing on 120FPS.

    Looks insane on my OLED.

Find it hard to switch back to 60 nevermind 30.

30 fps is awful on OLED. So, if the real next gen games mean loads of new tech but 30 FPS then no way Jose. I'd imagine they'll continue to offer 30, 60 and higher options as before with tradeoffs.

As long as 40 fps becomes standard I could maybe deal with 60 fps being dropped.

Hmmm was playing plague tale requiem at 40 FPS and I felt drunk.

I tried 40 FPS in Ratchet & Clank but the problem was I'd already seen the 60 FPS version so it was an inescapable climb down in fluidity.

It definitely sounds like a better compromise than 30 if a developer has to abandon 60 for whatever reason. Would still rather 60 wherever possible, of course. But based on past experience I'm more naturally able to adjust to a lower frame rate game once it reliably hits its target and doesn't have frame-time weirdness going down.

If you don't have a 120hz VRR display them 40FPS can look funny.

    Hi All,

I live in Spain but my PS5 is set to Ireland. Looking to get the collectors edition of Horizon Forbidden West but it comes with a digital download. Will this work on my PS5? I know PSN credit doesn’t work between different regions but not sure about actual game codes.

Seems GameStop have a placeholder section up for PSVR2, says 'pre-order soon'.

Live a little while ago on Gamestop for anyone interested

I pre-ordered it myself there, not sure if I am keeping the order but sure we will see what happens

Did they take it out of your account straight away?

Not sure I want it yet. Was hoping to get on a list and decide the week before. Might chance Smyth's later.

PS Plus Extra/Premium games are up. Rainbow Six Siege won't let me download free version. Similar situation as when FF7R was on service and wouldn't let you upgrade to PS5 version.

It wouldn't surprise me if Smyths don't have it. This was a PS direct exclusive in other countries like the dualsense edge and Smyths still don't have that on their site.

Maybe it's just me but Smyth's have had a poor selection of games recently, outside of new stuff they don't seem to have anything I've wanted. With the PS4 they had so many great games for €20 that were 3-4 years old but there's a few PS5 games I've looked for that they didn't have that are barely a year old.

What do people think about the PlayStation plus plans? I'm torn between the Extra and Premium plans

I like the access to the classics library from the Premium plan, but the game trials don't really look great and I've no interest in the streaming services

Get it for a month and play the classic games you want then stick with Extra. I had Premium for the month but didn't see any long term value in it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭Markitron

They need to do a lot better with premium to make it worthwhile

Definitely the place I buy the most.

Normally 10e-5e cheaper than GS on release day for games and they have regular half price sales on newish games.

Hoping for half price on Gotham Nights or TLoU Part 1 soon.

3 or 4 times I've bought games half price in Smyth's and traded to GS when I was finished for more than I paid. GotG, True Colours, Ghostwire Toyko and Dying Light 2(paid 30e, traded for 42e) come to mind.

For me I haven't played many console games since the PS3, so missed out on a big chunk of games over the past few years

Seems to me a PlayStation plus sub is better value than buying a bunch of classic games I'd like to play

But if you already have a library of games it's probably not great value

If you could download them I would agree, but the PS3 games are streaming-only which would be a deal breaker for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,158 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Ah okay, didn't realise that. Yeah not a fan of the idea of streaming games, Netflix goes down to low quality often enough, anything interactive would be really bad

Is the library included with the Extra plan available for download?

Registration for PSVR2 Pre orders are open. If you are in the fence it might be worth signing up. No obligation to buy. You might not even get an opportunity.

Seems like they are taking some much needed steps to limit scalping.

Just with mention of buying from Smyths and in case you haven't heard, Revolut offer 3% cash back or pay in 3 installments from multiple places including smyths, Amazon and Argos. Haven't been using it myself yet but thread in the main Bargains forum here

Must ring GS tomorrow and see if I can pre-order over the phone for a fiver, pay it off then over the next few months, but have registered with PS just in case. Nice that it requires you to sign in to show you have a PS5 before you can register. As Grumpy said, should limit scalpers to some degree. May be worth bringing it up to GS, can only preorder if you have a history PS5 related purchases. That's how you treat loyal customers Gamestop! Ye didn't make me Epic because I spend feck all in there!

If you choose to collect in store you can pay €100 now and the remainder on release day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,565 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Ow, €100. May have to wait till payday. I rang today and she didn't mention a min deposit, I'll be heading in tomorrow so will find out!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,812 ✭✭✭JimBurnley

It was €50 min deposit at my Gamestop (Blanchardstown), just put it down earlier today. Time to start the hype...

That's more palatable. Fiver then for the charging dock. Hype started for me when they announced when it would be available. Must reign in expectations to ensure actual amazement. Can't wait to try NMS!
