There's up 50% off on the F1 store if anyone is after some merch. Seems to only 33% on the 2022 merchandise still a nice saving

I use that one too, I always say the young lad will be delighted with that as I pay for lego.

What I mean is the young lad in me.

    Dude believe what you believe

Danny ric had a few decent seasons and then was upstaged left and well now he is bowing out. Simples

Seb lost his confidence due to the nonsense in Ferrari look at Leclerc...

Yeah. Both drivers were once very good then they lost it and aren't good anymore. They're both leaving the sport next year, which adds to the symmetry

Off topic, but this is Ferraris WEC car for next year. Wow.

Interesting if true, I wonder will Horner be less accomodating to Sky if Max keeps up a boycott.

I thought it was a bit much from Ted when he said it at the time. But my thinking is that he was trying to build on the drama of Brad Pitt being about, but perhaps it was his true feelings.

He done an interview yesterday with Sky after quali so it strikes me as odd if he’s boycotting now because of something said a week ago?!?

I guess more clickbait so, I didn't see much of qualifying yesterday.

Did he do it with a sky reporter or did sky just air it?

-ah the post quali with culthard

And in the media pen also, with a Sky mic in front of him.

He's probably contractually obligated for that. I'm guessing it's the likes of the review of the pole lap, chatting on pitlane or on grid, things like that.

You'd kind of hope that sky would give it a rest, at least one of them must have mentioned Abu Dhabi nearly every race...

Surely it’s time for F1 to cut ties with Sky. For years now they’ve continually brought the sport into disrepute with their false narratives, conspiracy theories and xenophobia fuelled hate filled coverage. Now that they’ve gone so far that the world champions of the sport have no choice but to boycott them as a matter of integrity, F1 really needs to examine if they need Sky to continue injecting so much toxicity into the sport. I know there are contracts in place but there must surely be clauses in place in the event that Sky keep doing their best to tarnish the sport.

Unrelated to the pros or cons of sky, something I've often wondered - when you see the mechanics push an f1 car around, are they on a trolley of some sort under the car? Is it attached or pushed under it?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 11,485 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

The car is lifted at the front and back and trolleys rolled underneath it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,499 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

I've seen them jack it up front and back, but never seen the trolley go in underneath...

Ah you see it all the time during practice for example, when they come back into the pits, they’re jacked up and little flat trollies rolled under from the side. 🙂

Does anyone consider this red bull dominance the same as Mercedes dominance since 2014, personally for me no, because with Mercedes, not only was there no real question as to who was going to win, there was rarely a question as to what team was going to take, pole, 1st and 2nd, whereas for red bull, a 1 -2 is never a foregone conclusion

Typical Ted spewing words, I see where red bull is salty but it was a live show and not a scripted segment where the wording is drafted word by word.

Also, my god the size of toto's arms, they are bigger than the girls head, he is enormous

    I would say no.

Qualifying seems to always be close between the RB, Merc and Ferrari. On race day strategy has left Ferrari down, Aero has left Merc down. Next year will be close, you won't see anyone dominating entire weekends like merc were.

A good synopsis and very true, one team destroying all the others in qualifying for 5 plus years again marks them out as such a dominant force

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,845 ✭✭✭quokula

It's not even remotely close to that level of dominance. Mercedes just had to turn up and were guaranteed victory for most of the hybrid era as long as they didn't mess up too badly, nobody physically at the track had to perform particularly well at any given race to ensure victory because the equipment would do it for them.

There have been a few races this year where Red Bull have had the fastest car, but for the majority of his victories Max has had to fight tooth and nail from behind, make overtakes, and the team have had to get strategy perfect to get the win. And as you mention, the other Red Bull without Max in it is rarely as close to the front. The team has precisely zero front row lockouts.

Quali is a big difference between now and the Mercedes dominance. The main difference between the RB and Ferrari is tyre durability. Ferrari is somewhat close on pace but chews through the tyre.

The fact that it was closer at the start of the season sticks in people's minds too. It was nip and tuck at the beginning. But RB's development has far outstripped the rest and now they're pretry dominant in races. They're not as dominant as Mercedes were when they could win races by 30 seconds. But at the moment there's little doubt about who will win the races.

Wonder Will Russell get pulled up on his comment about driving someone off the road if they are not his team mate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,343 ✭✭✭thefa

While I agree with the sentiment, the financial implications to Liberty would take it off the table I would imagine. Sky have to cater to their main audience I guess too and a bit of controversy is good for the sport to stir things up, particularly in a year that had to follow 2021. Think the tribalism could grow more legs.

When you take a step back and compare it to other sports, the regularly complaining of fans and commentators about the application of the rules is quite akin to other sports and their coverage.

The interesting thing about the Sky deal is that F1 already have the infrastructure set up to allow customers to subscribe directly. I presume Sky spend a serious amount on the rights, with the added benefit of advertising to existing customers to drive up viewership.

I fell asleep watching race last night, so didn't see any of the post-race coverage on Sky, did they make any reference to the boycott of Sky by Red Bull or make any comment about why they didn't interview Max or Checo?

Last two races of the season coming up. Brazil this weekend and Abu Dhabi next weekend.
