"Preparing for war!" This short social media post by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) 80th Group Army generated over 300,000 thumbs-up in 12 hours on Friday, amid high morale among Chinese soldiers ahead of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the PLA and escalating tensions across the Taiwan Straits.

Nothing unusual there Army's are always preparing for war but China has warned that Pelosi going to Taiwan is going to cause big trouble.

    So what does she do...

    This might not end well.

Clearly one war is not enough for the Americans and their backers. They are determined to ignite a second conflict this time in the Pacific. If President Biden was a good president, he would order that US Air Force plane to turn around and bring. Nancy pelosi back home.

She absolutely should go. Pandering to these regimes accounts for a lot of the problems the West is now burdened with. They are adversaries, not partners.

Someone is going to lose face now. If Pelosi backs down it makes an already weak US government look even weaker. Iv'e a feeling Xi isn't as stupid as Putin and will hold back from an invasion even if Pelosi visits. Interesting times because if it kicks off in that region we really are on the verge of WW3.

The chinese can throw their weight around and land grab whatever they like, but only the yanks have the size and power to be able to say no, that's not right. Pelosi is a clown but the yanks are right. The carrier battle group and some well chosen air exercises in international airspace are completely appropriate.

Currently unverified so believe it if you wish apparently China has just closed the Taiwan straight and are in the process of conducting live fire exercises in the region.

China have their economic table set across Asia and Africa for decades to come.

Xi isn't going to risk all that over Taiwan, barring some catastrophic economic collapse where they need to boost morale at home.

It may only be half the size of Ireland but Taiwan would be a hellish invasion for the Chinese.

Support needless provocation, or the neoliberals will call you an appeaser.

I hope all who beat the drum for war will one day gain personal and up-close experience of it.

She seems to have stopped off in Honolulu, good old Nancy never waste an opportunity. She must have got wind of the Chinese media asking for the plane to be shot down.

We went to war because an old woman came to talk - honestly how dare she, launch the nukes.

    Neoliberals went out with Dubya.

There's no reason for Pelosi not to visit Taiwan. If Taiwan wanted to be part of communist China they could have a free vote to join them. Clearly they don't wish so, understandably. Those wanting war over Pelosi's visit are on the mainland, and their useful idiots elsewhere.

It's unlikely to come to that of course, but don't make the same mistake that a lot have made with Putin and Russia.

They aren't like us. Very different political systems, different attitudes to the lives and rights of citizens and especially soldiers (expendable assets), and they are most definitely playing the long game.

You can't judge their motivations or predict their responses by what we in the West would do/deem acceptable.

Sure, their constituency might have no care for 'freedom of speech' they may only care about their own interests.

I read that apparently Flight Radar 24 have blocked people from following her flight if this is true and you want to follow the progress of her aircraft then ADSB exchange claim they don't block or filter flight's.

I could see why that might be a bit of a security risk

If Trumpy or another Republican ghoul was doing a visit, I really feel OP and a few others posting would be singing their praises for being "strong men", the Chinese "don't like it up em" etc.

When it is Pelosi on the US's "Blue" Political Football Team that might be doing something pretty much just confirming the post WW2 US policy, we have wails about these reckless war mongers etc etc. etc. Cynical of me?🤷‍♀️

ah yes bend the knee every time a dictatorship wills it definitely gonna end well. Appeasement is always a great idea!

Not an unusual broadcast. The chinese navy is constantly threatening the Philippines and Vietnam claiming "rights" to the sea and territories in the area.Good to see the usual apologists lining up here.

All China does is steal and try to knock off everyone else's ideas and tech. They invent and create nothing themselves. Which is why they are, and will always be, light years behind the United States militarily, and they know it.

Another neanderthal regime threatening a smaller democratic neighbour

According to Sabina Higgins surrender talks should begin immediately.

Spare us the utter twaddle about democracy and freedom. Here's what 'appeasement' really looks like.

Think its more a general shift in Western policy. The West is done with the softly softly approach to governments like China. It hasnt worked.

The war in Ukraine has really sparked a change with Western worlds attitudes to oppressive governments.

Not a chance USA would let Taiwan fall to China. The semi conductor industry is far to valuable to keep us all going.

    Fcuk Putin. Glory to Ukraine!

The west has become weak and woke, if it goes up against China it will be in for a shock.

    Ms

He is a Good President. Certainly compared to the clown that came before him.

Nancy Polosi is a great Woman. I hope she does visit Taiwan.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

You believe two nations leaders having a meeting is appeasement, yet cowering down to the demands of a bully is not?

We should defend our way of life to an extent that any attempt on it is crushed, so that any adversary will never make such an attempt in the future.

Silly Chicom stuff. They're utterly dependent on imported food and energy and the PLA navy remains subpar. Russia is self reliant for food and energy although their navy is increasingly marginal. Republic of China-Taiwan has been preparing for invasion for 70 years. Their military record is abysmal, maybe taking a glacier from India but suffering enormous casualties against Vietnam in border confrontations in the 80s. Their little emperor soldiers from one child families are not up to much. Large PRC companies like Huawei follow US sanctions on Russia for obvious reasons. This is just the shrill sabre rattling they love to indulge in.

Pelosi will def visit Taiwan, she has made it a mission to do this before she leaves office.

The West has had enough pandering to the rantings of Putin and Xi. On Ukraine they say China is watching with interest re. Taiwan, we have not been found wanting. The pasting the Russian army has received by determined Ukrainians defending their homeland (Russia has already given up on taking Kiev and are trying to salvage something they can call a win in the Donbas) will hopefully have China thinking twice about pulling something in Taiwan.

They would get a swift kick up the ass if Taiwan homelanders and a few US Carrier fleets respond to Chinese aggression. The Chinese can probably count on Australia and all of South East Asia get involved against them as well.

Its probably time to abandon the One China policy, because this face saving mechanism afforded to them, they seem to think they and claim territory all the way to the disputed Paracel islands, the Spratly islands(< China has no legitimate claim to these) and all the way up to the shores of Australia.

So what your saying with that is they should just appease all then since they ve done it with the Saudis?

    Nonsense.

I really hope this is tongue in cheek... 4 of the most peaceful years with Trump at the helm, yet you are hungry for war and ready to blame him for it!
