Why is q anon being brought up?..

Just another attempt to muddy the waters and lump Joe in with them..

    The lowest form of discourse..

That was a great episode. Very informative in a time of confusion. I always thought it a pity he didn't get Osterholm back on the show further into the pandemic.

I think a lot of people got a lot from that episode.

To paraphrase a recent Jimmy Carr joke..." but no one wants to talk about the positives".

Because he has conspiracy theorist* like Alex Jones on his show. Alex Jones loves selling the qanon conspiracy

    Abducive reasoners, if you prefer.

I think a lot of people put forward a false dichotomy. JR just started having long online conversations with people he found interesting. No plan, no agenda, no nothing. Turned out he became very popular because he just let people speak at length. Then he became a threat to mainstream media and politicians so now they have gathered forces with ignorant artists ( sorry Neil, but you are ☹) doing their 'moral duty to society', the Truth being a monolitic entity with those opposed and spreading 'misinformation' in need of illimination. The Ministry of Truth, in short, with a Politburo.

People trying to dismiss him as 'an entertainer' have got it wrong. He is genuinely interested in his guests and topics unlike a lot of mainstream fuzzy bears filling their slots w shortsighted drivel. He is neither the smartest nor the stupidest guy but just the average guy willing to stick his neck out and not halted by self sensoring. He has guts. That in itself is entertaining. And THAT is exactly the reason for the attack. He has fully acknowledged he gets it wrong at times. People hate his insensitivities to the Woke crowd, the online world and mass media and his opponents digging up every bit of ammo to combat him ironically providing him with an even bigger platform. Now it is virtually impossible NOT to know about him. Unintended consequences indeed. He is untouchable, not a deplorable (courtesy of Hillary).

It's odd that conspiracy theories are being brought up in in the Joe rogan thread at all. I think he only believes in the Jfk one and has given episodes to discussing the American government possibly hiding alien existence or covid may have come from a lab but is not fully committed to either. Unfortunately qanon has developed hundreds of theories some of which are easily disproved like there being a child dungeon under a pizzeria or biden is actually dead

But Jones never got into the q stuff..

Your entire viewpoint is based on fabrication..if you don't have a clue what you're talking about why are you here calling for censorship?..really..

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,158 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

Of course he's an entertainer. He's not just a guy having chats that interest him. He's employed to get as many clicks as possible. Controversy sells. Conspiracy theorist, sell. He isn't paid to be an educator or peddle good Information, he's paid to peddle whatever information gets the clicks. Alex Jones spouting gibberish will sell better than some sober discussion of reality.

The narrative about JR just being an honest broker, a lone wolf, lost in the savage world of the crooked media, is bonkers. He's a member of the broader media, who peddles in whatever sells, including conspiracy theories.

Expecting to be immune form accusations of peddling conspiracy theories because he just has the conspiracy theorists on his show, is bonkers.

OK. Just link to the post where I called for censorship.

Well, you are obviously doubling down like so many, deaf and blind to reasonable assertions. Dismiss him at your peril. The Trump effect will kick in. I fully expect his support to grow fuelled by the likes of you, especially in the areas outside the US..

You've called him having a huge audience an issue..

Come on..you know what you're doing..

And you're too stupid to see the consequences..

    No, there's nothing missing.

The comedian guy was exploiting people desperate for a break and the Rogan fella was whooping and laughing at the thought of it.

Google it yourself. I was not sure if it was the same fella, but it is. He has been very dismissive and disrespectful to women on his "show! as the clip about the primate expert showed earlier.

Seems a bit of a knob and now a tinfoil hat wearing knob.

Hopefully he will get a guy like this on again soon after Rogan's recent "will do better" video

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,262 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

Joe and the primate expert really sums covid info in the last few years up.

A podcaster shouting down and telling an expert in her field that she's wrong because he did his own research online.

Wonder if he ever apologised to her?

I don’t know what caused it and nothing would surprise me or any other vaccinated non conspiracy person I’d imagine

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,927 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

his laughing at the comedian who coerced women to blow him is fairly **** behaviour. He’s lucky to avoid a bigger backlash at the time for that.

I listen to plenty of pods, I pretty much hate joe rogan, I find him a boring interviewer who ruins a good format by not being a very good conversationalist. The constant same topics being trawled over; hunting, DMT, survivalism, fitness, combat, California being too liberal and badly governed, conspiracies. I don’t see curiousity about the world from him. Just curiously and faith in a limited scope of topics.

It’s a poor reflection of modern culture that this is the biggest podcast in the world. I believe in free speech but personally I couldn’t shed any tears if he’s done.

Howard stern will be next for the chopping block once they are done with Rogan.

Ironically, if he gets binned by Spotify he'll actually probably grow his listenership, as it's at least slightly limited now by having a platform-wall. He owns the show itself, so if he parts ways with Spotify you could see him moving to an ad-based model across the whole range of podcast platforms, and reaching more people.

The way it is going with cancel culture and hate speech legislation overall there is a space for an independent platform on the internet separate from the Google infrastructure via the Playstore (banned platforms). Some have suggested Elon Musk should set it up and invite JR as a first player with many to follow. If Google refuses to let people have access via their Android phones and/or the phone companies themselves that would be another niche market for Elon, a kind of Apple like based system. Could work unless the people trying to put legislation in to police the internet get their way which would be the final nail in the coffin of free speech..

I'm surprised some other Podcaster hasn't started eating into Joe's listenership. As big as his show is, it's not rocket science, and he's nothing special. He'll even say that himself.

It'll be interesting where the podcast space in general goes. A passing fad perhaps, although I do enjoy them myself.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,262 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

You're delusional if you think that'll work. Take a look at any "free speech" website. Overrun by edgelords promoting hitler, "legal" child porn etc. Google runs due to advertising. Who wants to advertise on a platform that will be known for that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,666 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

They already have it. Called the dark web. And its really dangerous.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,058 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

I thought Parler was supposed to be this? Or wasn't Trump coming up with some new platform? I see a conservatives minister was coming out against Jimmy Carr for his Gypsy joke saying it would banned under hate speech legislation so it does seem to have gone mainstream in even the UK and not just the Left involved.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,927 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

That was just a statement of fact. What Jimmy Carr said (out of context) was hate speech.

  • Registered Users Posts: 596 ✭✭✭deholleboom

Parler was de-platformed. That is why we need a different, independent platform. Not the dark web as such but simply one with a wider net. You know, the one we used to have with a proper amount of freedom. You can even have a discussion amongst group members where the boundaries lie like in a, well you know, democracy where the angry mob and moral crusaders cant get to you. Where the online Politburo cannot armwrestle weak politicians to make idiotic statements that have consequences. To quote:" keep on rocking in the free world"!

No need to accept pornography or outright bigotry..

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,058 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

If Parler is the blueprint than I think this free speech platform would probably become just an American right wing echo chamber. A bit like a slightly more adult version of 4chan. I think Jordan Peterson tried to create a left and right wing talking ship type website but the interest as just not there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,959 ✭✭✭archfi

    Yep.

'Woke' safetyism crosses party lines - at it's essence it's a tool of the powerful (left, centre and right nowadays) to reduce freedoms cheered on by people who, in the case of JC's bit, simply don't get a joke.

The issue is never the issue; the issue is always the revolution.

The Entryism process: 1) Demand access; 2) Demand accommodation; 3) Demand a seat at the table; 4) Demand to run the table; 5) Demand to run the institution; 6) Run the institution to produce more activists and policy until they run it into the ground.

Mainly, I think, because why would the new 'left' leave a bubble created and curated (or moving towards a singular cultural view) for their views.
