Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

He started firing shots for some reason and the first two detectives responded. He then shot at and wounded them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,713 ✭✭✭wandererz

Plainclothes detectives went over to inform someone (possibly him) that they had information that he was being targeted.

Speculating here: Perhaps he had this information already and when he saw two guys approaching the house he thought he would take them out rather than them take him out.

He's was a member of they westies gang, so how the hell does a man with a huge criminal record and is still involved in organized crime have two automatic guns at home?
Can the garda not do random house/car raids on criminals at this level.
It's hard to believe that this longterm criminal can have, not one but two firearms at his home and the garda didn't know, care or do anything about it, but yet come and warn him his life is in danger and then get shot!! WTF.
A leopard and his spots comes to mind.

I think they need reasonable suspicion. Can't just go about invading peoples privacy for no reason.

Although, i wonder what reasonable suspicion they had to go bust the chef with osteoporosis down in Cork for €4 of weed.

Thats it in a nutshell, they don't have the resources to man mark these characters with surveillance and intelligence all at once. And getting a warrant for a domicile search has a pretty high bar, its not done on a whim, nor should it be frankly.

Garda helicopter going non stop around Carpenterstown last couple hours. Wonder what's happening

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

Maybe he shot because he knew he'd be arrested and put away... ? Safer in custody than out on the streets when there's a threat on your life ..

    Not quite.

I understand he was aware of an imminent threat. When the Guards arrived in plain clothes (jeans and hoodies rather than suit and tie) and an unmarked car, ironically to warn him about said threat, the paranoia overtook and he perceived them as a threat. Anyway, that excuses nothing, the possession and discharge of firearma and the actual bodily harm done to the wounded Guards will see him get 10 years at least.

4.30am and I've been awake for over 35 minutes as something big is clearly going down. What I presume is the Garda helicopter isn't just overhead, it's swooping down so low I thought it was going to come through my roof - I've never heard it so noisy. I'm in Waterville so don't know if it's checking out our woods or if it's over in Corduff.

  • Registered Users Posts: 71 ✭✭Glossy1

Heard it as well, I'm the other side from you towards Power c!Ty . Was wondering what part it was going around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,139 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

I'm wrecked this morning. It was there for about 40 minutes then fecked off but came back again for about another 10 minutes. Haven't heard anything on the news.

I must have been out like a light because I am about half way between the two of you (ish) and I heard nothing!

Talking to neighbours who were similarly disturbed during the night. One said there were armed Gardai at a checkpoint on the snugborough road this morning at the IDA business park and another said there had been a similar checkpoint earlier in the week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,139 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

Update: they were looking for two people and they have been detained. Don't know if it's in the media but a friend has contacts in the Garda station.

An illegal encampment has appeared on the bit of green space on Damastown Road, within the industrial area, at the entrance to the IBM campus and the Guerbet plant.

Beware of associated petty criminality until it is removed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,895 ✭✭✭Polar101

Last time (or after one of the times) it happened they built a low wooden fence around the green. I guess it didn't work so well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,355 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

I didn't spot what parts of the fence might have gone missing, but some bits must have.

I'm hearing a LOT of sirens in the Blakestown area over the last 10 minutes or so, I think they are headed in the Huntstown/Hartstown direction but can't be sure. Any idea what is going on out there?

The sirens are still going though less often and the Garda helicopter was out for a while but also gone now. Still have no idea what it was.

RTE news : Three people injured in assault at house in Dublin

    Just spotted this on RTE.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭LorelaiG

Apparently a grandfather and his grand child and the grandchild's partner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,355 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

A news update just now saying one person is now dead and two others injured following an "assault incident" at an address in Ashfield, Blakestown.

Gardaí are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident but are looking for dashcam footage from the area or any witnesses who were nearby between 12 - 4pm

156 bicycles stolen from clonsilla Station last year, the guy in Station said 5 were stolen last week, garda apparently have very little time for it and Irish rail won't entertain it at all.

Young kids go in and mark the saddles of the ones they want and a few minutes later a guy goes in with an angle grinder and or metal bar and takes them into a van parked around the bend.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,756 ✭✭✭Brock Turnpike

Really? I'm often there with my daughter as she loves running up and down the little hill that leads into the bike shed. Never seen anything fishy there (although admittedly it is bright/middle of the day when we're there)

Cars robbed on Sunday morning in Willow Wood, at 6.00am. 1 Man caught on camera from numerous houses, walking house to house checking cars for unlocked doors etc.

Seems to be fair few cars interfered with around D15, Carpenterstown, Luttrelstown, Castleknock area.

Anyone know what was going on tonight at around 1:50am, (Garda?) helicopter flying around Clonsilla/Ongar, and 7-8 Garda vehicles heading towards Blanch on Ongar Road?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,355 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

I dunno, but the bastarding chopper woke me up and Im not back to sleep!

It seemed to be orbiting over the Ongar Park area for a while and I heard the sirens but couldn't tell which direction they were going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,139 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

I heard what I thought was a gunshot around 10.15 last night. Then about 12.55am it was like someone sat on a car horn for almost 10 minutes. I'm in Waterville so was coming from Corduff direction.

Car was set on fire in Waterville in the parking spaces behind Blasket square. Fuel tank exploded which was probably what you heard and a number of other vehicles were damaged.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,355 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Not a new phenomenon in the area, but brazen and potentially violent all the same.

    Note the car and descriptions.

Gardaí are at the scene of the discovery of the bodies of a woman in her 40s and a baby boy in the Beechfield estate, Clonee, off the Littlepace to Ongar road.

Clearly a dreadful tragedy of some sort, thoughts with those affected.

Is must be some sort of automated script - something running in a loop checking constantly if a radartracker website records a plane flying close to him or something like that- it fills out an online form and submits it.

    “Roll it back”

Clearly a disturbed individual, that's not normal behaviour by any standard.

Big fire on the derelict building site beside the Clonsilla Applegreen last night. Seems to be a lot of anti-social behaviour around it the past few weeks. Could be an insurance job to get money back. Whoever is to blame is pretty irresponsible though considering how close it is to a petrol station.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,355 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Reports of a very serious stabbings of a man in Ongar at 7pm, seems to have been outside Dominos Pizza by the arch into Dunnes.

Other details have been posted on social media, but are not verifiable.

Man in his 40s dies after attack in Ongar area of Dublin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,355 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Yeah there was speculation when I heard it, but as the media has it now it's obviously confirmed.

What an awful incident, may he rest in peace.

Its probably a discussion for another day, but general anti-social behaviour issues in and around Ongar village needs serious attention and community action.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,355 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

It certainly does, especially out on the fringes where Ongar is, but they can't be on every corner and the reports of this are a tragic and explosive incident which perhaps no police presence could have prevented.

Thankfully there had been a speedy arrest and hopefully swift justice.
