would agree with you .I was only thinking that with the amount of staff, office & shop overheads plus the lifestyle items he seems to have recently that’s a lot of watches you need to be shifting each month.

He's making sh1tloads of money from new media. The shop is just part of the props at this stage...

All the non shop stuff is run through another company "God Tier" something or other (i kid you not)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,640 ✭✭✭✭unkel

    Quick google confirms that, Time.

God Tier Global Ltd 😂 incorporated this year. It's a brilliant slogan, in fairness. Instantly linkable just to him.

I seen him on Romans vid last week ringing to he was trying to buy a 100k watch on his behalf but his bank has a daily transaction limit for 100k or something like that (not sure if that’s total transactions but it just shows how small they are…).

Roman instead vouched some way for him that he would cover if he didn’t pay.

P n P are small enough scale. I really hope what I have seen lately is them just pretending to have the life style etc as it could all come crashing down, think I seen a private jet trip home to see his parents etc.

It's a hard balance to strike. The high flying jet set lifestyle and rabbiting on about bejazzled RM's and Rollies on the wrists of rappers that are "worth" eleventy million dollars is marketing to those who buy into the 10 and 15 grand watches thinking that makes them part of that lifestyle, but you need to flog a lot of 10 and 15 watches(and other revenue streams) to middle aged accountants and golfists to cover it. Though I gather he's also got some outside investment in the biz recently.

is he? the only person i know that (leases) private jets has made around 150m in the last 2 calendar years (which i know for a fact rather than speculation).

I could be way off but i cant see how that lad is making enough to justify that kind of expense.

I would say his business is following the same plan as a lot of new high profile businesses- Make lots of noise , get noticed at any cost and then get the investors in just before it all goes bang .Time it right and it’s happy days

Their social media presence is popular, but if nothing else it's nailed on for me that I'm getting old 🤣

I had to unfollow Nico's FB, those reaction videos just aren't my cup of tea at all. Now that said, they really seem to both know their market and somehow? Achieve prices that many of use wouldn't think are realistic values. Be it from selling to cryptokids who want swag? Or to discerning buyers who know what they want and are willing to pay for it?

I don't know which, probably both with an added niche as the only place on the island doing their schtick at any scale? Credit where it's due, they do seem to do it well.

Seem like he has a good thing going at the moment. The lifespan of it is another thing. Like Cyrus says, spending on private jets is really only for the person thinks a millionaire is broke, but the flexing culture of watches has Nico playing that game. I would think his accountant is writing off things left right and center, so the inland revenue will probably have a say in his prosperity at some point.

When you look at Romans business you can see where the revenue comes from and the expenses that go with it, Nico on the other hand is a bit more opaque, (small operation selling watches, few staff, youtube business that could be an earner but could be a liability, up all night taking superchats, flying private, driving leased Ferrari, trying the buy a house...there are some contradictions) and it could be really good or really bad. Who knows. I wish him well, nice guy, lots of energy, good shtick seems to look after his people.)

There’s a whole lot of smoke and mirrors across a lot of the watch YouTube universe. Small group of people doing a lot of buying and selling between themselves.

The only lad I know who was ever flying private was financing casinos in the U.S., not making a few hundred quid here and there on the odd sale.

I would imagine watch sales is ripe for money laundering? Like used car sales which is notorious for it. High value, easily transportable and reasonably liquid.

You'd be surprised at how affordable it can be, especially for the more short haul stuff, E.G a Global 6000 (seats about 16) from Dublin to Paris on Saturday is 9.5k at the moment. Divide that 10 ways and its pretty reasonable per head.

Yep. Private planes are often the kinda prices you would have paid for a normal flight before low cost airlines like Ryanair came along.

I remember paying IRP699 for a one way (!) flight from AMS to DUB with Aer Lingus in the mid 90s. That was roughly the net monthly wage of a university graduate. So similar to about €2500 in today's money.

There was a reason we useta take the boat when we were emigrating 😉 it was cos the flights anywhere off of our rock were mad expensive!

I remember at one point paying IR£400 for a flight to Leeds in the earlyish 90's. Cheap flights changed all that and the IR£29 coach suddenly didn't look like such great value.

On a watch related front. Saw an incredibly cheap Sinn U2 on Chrono24 last night, no box or papers and strap was too short for me. Not a problem as I have a few silicon straps. Clicked buy, waited with bated breath to complete the checkout. Only to be told it was already sold. Dammit!

Been sitting all day and was getting a whiff of something every now and again.

Thought it was the top I was wearing! Smelled like it was left to dry out for a few days after coming out of the wash.

Randomly sniffing it directed me to the cuff of it. Thought it was strange no smell from the rest of it.

Thought nothing more, but every now and again the odour hit me, so I'd sniff the cuff again!

But it was actually the strap of my Traser P59 Type 3, which I recently wore once or twice when showering when I couldn't be arsed to take it off.

Anyone know how to get the damp smell out of it now?!!

The same thing happened me a few times with a fabric strap that I had on my Fitbit. I'm not sure what the recommended solution is, but what I did was put the strap into a cup of boiling water with a small bit of bleach and let it steep for a few hours. Worked for me.

The other trick I've used with natos and a couple of vintage fabric straps* I have is to stick them in a clean sock and into a regular clothes wash. That gets the funk out. With steel bracelets it's once a year into the ultrasonic cleaner with them and marvel in dusgust at the clag that comes out. 🤢😁 Actually the ultrasonics sucks the goo out of natos too, but the washing machine is better.

*which were marketed back in the day as "hygienic", which in an era of leather and even steel before ultrasonic cleaners could at least be washed.

    Hi folks,

I've a question about ordering a Rolex at retail. If you order say a GMT etc and given that it might take 3 or 5 years etc..do Rolex retailers sell at the rrp or do they charge market value? Someone told me weirs quoted them 13k for a sub rrp which sounds wrong?

    Cheers,

    Mick

Might have been a two tone. AD must sell at Rolex recommended prices. They do carry a stock of pre owned watches and some Rolex, but new watches are at RRP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,979 ✭✭✭scwazrh

Unfortunately it’s not ordering a watch , there’s not even a list anymore .I was told there used to be a list that was to be fulfilled but now it’s past history that counts so if you’ve no history you not getting one from the AD.While weirs might say 3-5 years it doesn’t mean it will take 3-5 years to fulfill your order .

The P&P lads are spot on timewise. I'd guessed the 22nd as the end of the 14 day window.

Received an email today to confirm my payment A/c and that once confirmed, funds would be sent today.

I'm going to miss the VC, but I must say very impressed both with the service offered by the lads in Belfast from initial chat, to pick up and ultimate sale, but even more so with the price achieved and the speed of transaction.

Looks real enough to me Fitz. 50's/60"s Omega with a crown replacement. Looks like a ladies size? Though if it's above 34mm probably not. Is the caseback gold as well, or is the main watch case plated? It's hard to tell from the piccies.

Also one for Wibbs, was looking through the sales section of Watchuseek and came across a vintage Lip diver [Link] €300 a good price for one?

Has anyone bought from Watchmaster? I know they have a "black Friday" offer on at the moment but, anyone any experience of pitching them an offer?

Yeah I've bought a couple of watches from WF and they were open to negotiation.
