Yeah, Athlone would be a good spot, as a lot of folk could be traversing th eM4/6 without going past either Enfield or Athenry... mid route would be a good shout.

Yes Carlow M9 Services would be ideal for Superchargers as it is half way on the M9 and would provide a very convenient stop in either direction, that to me is the priority at the moment as you already have Limerick, Cork and Belfast covered and with Enfield opening soon that is also Galway covered in terms of getting to Dublin and back and then you then have the west covered with Athenry soon and already have the southwest covered with Tralee so the last city that needs to be covered is Waterford and with placing the Supercharger stations at Carlow you also bring Kilkenny, Carlow and Kildare into the mix in both directions too!

So M9 really needs to be the priority and then you can basically go from any of the 5 cities on the island of Ireland to Dublin and back and between each other!

What about the Applegreen @Exit7 on M9 very close to the exit ample carpark.

Yeah, I actually drove past that a few months back going to/from Woodstock Park & Gardens, and thought it’d be a great spot for a little hub of some sort….

if anyone knows anyone involved there, tell them to get onto Tesla….. and secure a 10 year minimum rental from Tesla for 2/4 spots….

Modified Nissan with CCS charging at 72kW (CCS mod still in beta)

Didn't the original Tesla drivers here use the Nissan dealer CHAdeMO chargers in Ireland? I guess it can go both ways (if you don't have CCS).

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,507 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

The CHAdeMO adapter is a legacy Tesla adoption because when the first Tesla’s were sold in the US there were no super chargers so the adapter was required to use the existing Nissan network. It was then rolled out in Europe for the exact same reason. This was before the neater CCS conversion which also allows higher charge rates.

Yes, Tesla Ireland drivers used the free ChaDeMo at Nissan dealers. It was intended for Nissan cars and some like Swords installed an extra long ChaDeMo cable to be used outside of dealer hours. Now I believe it's powered off and request only. From plugshare in swords

As a non Tesla owner I welcome this. If anyone can iron out the charging problems tesla can. It's probably needed anyway to finance a real worldwide network.

Manually cutting and pasting from eCars thread to see if anyone here knows why only 4 SuC at Enfield?

    AndyBoBandyNov 4, 2021

It might be worth mentioning again here (in case anyone missed in in the Tesla SuperCharger thread), but the ground works are complete at the Enfield SuperCharger site where there’ll be 6 EV charging spaces, 4 of which will be Tesla Superchargers, and the other 2 seemingly belonging to eCars…. But the eCars spaces have been wired up for rapid charging….. so though initially it might be just an AC charger going in, it would have the potential for a fast DC charger in future….

    Slave1 posted...

The planning application is 8 Tesla charging spots…..

the development will consist of 8 No. car parking spaces, 8 No. Tesla illuminated charger points, 8 No. Tesla parking sign posts, 2 No. Tesla supercharger cabinets, 1 No. ESB substation/switch room, and for all associated site development works within the curtilage of a registered protected structure reference number MH048-103

unless they have wired for 8 chargers, but are only installing 4 now with view to expanding further down the line.

When I looked at the planning a while back, I interpreted it as 4/6 SuC's, and 2 Destination chargers... (given its a hotel etc...)

    V3 chargers are multiples of 4 only, so 4, 8, 12 etc.

I'd imagine if they have planning for 8 and only install 4 they've deviated, but you know what I'm not worried about it, 4 is great

8xV3 is 2MW+ a bit hard to imagine possible for our grid. I was saying before when Sandyford would be completed would have more installed power than all the other DC chargers in Dublin.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,507 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

That's above peak of 8 Model 3s arriving at the same time at low SOC and charging for a few minutes at their max.

Anyhow the permission was given for the substation so it has to be possible

Visited both Birdhill and Ballacolla in the past24 hours on a short trip to Limerick. Birdhill was empty last night at 9. 6 stalls working. There was a 3 when I arrived at Ballacolla and an X pulled in just as we were leaving.

Took a spin into Raheen woods. No sign of anything happening at the moment although half the car park is blocked off.

The entrance to the hotel is fairly tight so you’d wonder if they’re going to do something with it. If you miss the entrance you’re straight into the housing estate that surrounds the hotel.

German and Belgian non Tesla owners can now use the 10 Netherlands Pilot scheme superchargers, app was updated over the weekend in an expansion of the trial (was initially restricted to Netherlands only).

Doesnt look like any commencement notices have been lodged yet either for Johnstown Estate or Raheen Woods (although happy to to be proven wrong!)

Andy mentioned on another thread that the groundworks are complete in Johnston Estate (Enfield), don't know if that was personal sight or comment posted elsewhere on the web

So that's 5 stalls in shot, means it's likely to be an 8 stall (2*v3) site?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,194 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

I thought (again, ages ago when I looked at the plans), that it was going to be 6 SuC's, and 2 Destination Chargers.

If they have indeed wired the 2 Destination charger spots for HV, it means it'd be fairly easy to drop in 2 more SuC's when demand warranted it. and the Destination chargers can go anywhere else on the hotel grounds.

You can see below it's 6 SuC's, with 2 AC chargers. (I always assumed the 2 AC charge points would be Tesla Destination Chargers)

Thanks for the diagram, that's clear that they have a strange setup there. If it's 6 SuC and 2 destination chargers it woudl make some sense being a hotel. Wonder then if that's 1 V3 (4 SuC) and 1 V2 (2 loadshared SuC), along with the destination chargers

I asked one of the guys working on the Enfield site when it will be up and running and he said 3 weeks

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,507 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Thanks for that, only remaining unknown is as ELM327 alluded to, all V2 or combination of V3/V2 or even all V3 (with two unused, rare but happens)

Interesting, looks different to the planned layout.

One of the supercharger stalls was moved to the end the type 2s are supposed to be at.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,194 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

noticed that too.. hopefully they adjusted their planning application to suit..... as it looks like there is space up at the far end for the destination chargers..

I could see this site going to 8 stalls very easily with minimum fuss..

eCars should just sub contract their network installation plans to Tesla*.... (or whoever's doing it for Tesla)

    *not a joke

One of the conditions in the approval was to include a disabled parking space and redraw. Also they've asked for wider parking bays. The drawing in the application is not the final one it seems.

For the ESB eCars comment, it's true. Amazing how a well run, financially motivated entity can get the job done (talking about Tesla, obviously)

It shouldn't be as hard as ESB have been making it for themselves.

In fairness this is just the third new install in almost as many years, eCars well ahead of that
