    I usually have a co-pilot...and I spend the who time asking them to refresh the app as I drive increasingly faster to get the spot :D

    I've been lucky, and I don't travel these routes very often. Athenry will be perfect tho further into Connemara there are very few DC chargers.

    Does anyone here use the Superchargers exclusively (I seriously doubt it but worth asking)?

    How many SuC charges would you typically need to be doing per year before you start seeing an impact on battery degradation, given that consistent high power charging isn't great for the battery over a sustained period.

    I presume Tesla doesn't tell you the SoH of the battery, so you'd have to use an OBD2 yourself. Do they provide any kind of generic battery report when the car is in for a service?

    You won't see any battery degradation from supercharging in this country. Period.

    You'd need an OBD2, a tesla to obd adapter, and the scanmytesla app (or visibletesla, or any other similar)

    Tesla wont tell you the SOH.

    Point of note, my S had 200k km and degradation of less than 8%. These cars don't degrade like leafs do.

    ...and Teslas don't have service requirements, just do brakes/tyres yourself. No impact on warranty

    This is from the M3 Owners Manual under Battery Care:

    The peak charging rate of the Battery may decrease slightly after a large number of DC Fast Charging sessions, such as those at Superchargers. To ensure maximum driving range and Battery safety, the Battery charge rate is decreased when the Battery is too cold, when the Battery’s charge is nearly full, and when the Battery conditions change with usage and age. These changes in the condition of the Battery are driven by battery physics and may increase the total Supercharging duration by a few minutes over time.

    Charging Routine

    - Maintain a regular, every-day charging routine using a low-voltage charger. It’s best to rely on high-voltage charging (i.e. Supercharging) only when necessary.

    - When possible, store your Tesla somewhere with warmer temperatures.


    Max Charging Limits

    - For most vehicles, limit max charging to below 90% for daily use. This is recommended for vehicles with a 'daily' and 'reccommended' charging limit featured on their charging screen.

    - Certain Model 3 Standard Range Plus cars use a unique battery that should be charged to 100% whenever convenient in order to maintain long-term battery health. These vehicles will have a default charging limit of 100% and no 'daily' or 'recommended' charging limit featured on their charging screen.


    Tesla go to great lengths to protect the battery. Their Battery Management System (BMS) is probably the best in the business, given the years of data they have accumulated as a result of developing & building both the charging infrastructure & EVs.

    Im doing high speed (Level 3) DC charging 5-10 times a week (as I travel for work) and confident my battery still be in good condition provided I follow the reccomendations above. Will be interesting to see how it pans out.


    TL;DR - Keep the battery topped up "between 'daily' and 'reccommended' charging limit featured on your charging screen" and you'll be grand.

    Thanks all, I'm aware of the lack of servicing, just wondered if anyone has had Tesla check their battery while it was in for whatever reason and what kind of report they provide. Maybe should have this on a separate thread, it would be interesting to see how different manufacturers handle this.

    There's a German youtuber who recently had his 1 year old ID.3 battery checked by VW and it showed degradation of 8% after 22.5km, he drove 15km in the first 3 months and was 90% charged at DC 100kW chargers so I guess not a typical user. VW provided him with a battery report which confirmed the loss with SoH % figures, which at least is better than the useless Nissan 5 star battery report I've had in the past.

    Tesla are checking the batteries probably on a daily basis...... regardless of where the car is located.

    Remember the car is connected to HQ, and is always sending data back to them.

    Tesla probably would calculate the Beta tester pay as the savings you make on charging vs petrol / diesel - the same way they seem to include this in the Net price for the car.

    What side is the charging port? If it's on the rear drivers side you'll also enjoy taking up 2 spaces while you do so.

    Im not sure which side the charge port is on actually. Need to see some pics of a UK or Ireland version, the ones I have seen so far I couldn’t tell which side it is on.

    My understanding is that it is open.

    The guy who delivered my car in May was from Belfast helping out as Dublin was very busy.

    Actually well past overdue....

    Enfield was originally meant to be Applegreen and was noted as going ahead in Q1 2019 and Lisburn after that.

    Tesla website listed in June 2019 Athenry, Cork & Sandyford SuC as 'coming soon - target 2020'.

    All the while we watched the expansion of SuCs in UK & the mainland.

    Applegreen pulled their "partnership" with Tesla at their service stations which meant new locations to be found and ESB substations etc. Getting there now so all good

    Interesting. Wonder what the reason was? Wasn't there talk about AG opening their own charging network?

    If that's the reason the more charging locations the better but it's a bit unfortunate that the new SuCs are a bit off the beaten track, i.e. you need to spend time accessing the location from the motorway. The Sandyford for example can add quite a while at rush hour and leaving M4 to access the one in Enfield is meh too. On the positive side you can access that site without entering the tolled section of motorway.

    They typically are, any UK SuC locations I've used are a wee bit off the motorway next to nice hotels and good food options, ones at Service Centre locations are usually void of any decent food options like Sandyford will or likes of new Edinburgh SC, if the Belfast one is on Boucher Road then that place is choc o block of other car dealerships and a very busy route

    That extra 2 mins driving time into Johnstown Estate is gonna save me 10-20 mins minimum from Applegreen eCars (assuming its even available) at least twice a week.

    Raheen Woods in Athenry - again another couple extra minutes driving time is a godsend considering the lack of charging in & around Galway.
