I don`t see people taking offence that some want all restrictions removed immediately. If anything those here that seem easiest offended are those that would like us all to believe we are singly the worst in the world when it comes to restrictions, where even today from just two first-hand accounts of other jurisdictions that is clearly not the reality.

I believe most people who have seen the same being said from the outset by some regarding the dropping of restrictions, without even a half credible alternative, now just look on the same old same old as just noise from a broken record from people who appeared to believe there was some automatic trip-switch that would return life to 2019 by just dropping restrictions. Especially now that restrictions have been eased, and as things stand will, other than limited restrictions on face-mask wearing, be gone in a few weeks.

The vulnerable vaccinated months ago, 90% of adults vaccinated, but let's wait another 6 weeks before ending this farce. Why? Because cowards hold the floor.

Big bad variants is one of the reasons we're waiting another 6 weeks and of course to get the hospitals ready if there is another big surge oh wait

    I'm only kidding of course.

They won't end this farce in another 6 weeks.

Any evidence that vaccine passports actually work in supressing the virus?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,893 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

No Idea, I never inferred they did or did not. I was just pointing out the fact that the UK (I guess mainly England) decided to open up early to avoid a winter wave seems likely to have created a winter wave. Kinda the reverse of lockdown to avoid lockdown. So open up and allow a wave and have no vaccine passports and then say there's going to be a winter wave and the passports that could have limited the peak in winter, we'll just do away it them. I'm just baffled. Could be going the Macron route though.

Internal lockdown? I’ve been going to work since the start. I’ve been down to Waterford. I’ve been down to Cork. I’ve been down to Kilkenny. My wife has been to Sweden for two weeks. I’ve been out in Dublin numerous times. I’ve been out for lunch or coffee countless times. Was down in Glendalough for a lovely meal last night. I’m not living in internal lockdown. I am however living a very restricted life and people like you keep telling me that we’re “nearly there” for eighteen months! I don’t know what you mean by “no difference between March 2020 and now”. Are you saying that we are not restricted now? Because you are very very wrong if you are. You and others can keep pushing this ludicrous notion that restrictions are really restrictions at all but it is just that, ludicrous.

You've no idea if they work or not but then claim they could be used to suppress a winter wave.

There's a job for you in the Irish government.

The best news I've heard in ages. Though Johnson changes his story continually so lets hope this one sticks!

How do you have any idea if the UKs plan is 'likely to have created a winter wave' when its the beginning of September?

Yes, I'll see it when I believe it. The opposite was reported the other day.

And they're talking about bringing back masks over there because of cases. And there no plans for another lockdown, which means that there are plans for another lockdown. If they lockdown with almost the entire population vaccinated then surely people will have to start questioning things.

If they did try to bring them in you would of seen riots never mind protests. They know that, they are not stupid. It is just wrong.

When they had their freedom day, the plan was to prevent a winter spike by having the spike in autumn and the tail would be heading into the winter with cases on the decline. Remember they predicted a spike of 100k a day and then upgraded it to 200k a day, it never even came close. So now it's looking like they will have high cases heading into winter season.

Are we getting back to the UK are wrong and we're right territory ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,567 ✭✭✭Blut2

Most of the population of the UK has been living fully open, restriction free life for almost 2 months now and their 14 day cases per 100k are 397 as of yesterday. Ireland, despite having huge parts of society still closed down, has a 14 day cases per 100k rate of 433. And our government is still maintaining we need to wait another 6 weeks to open up because...?

Its pretty damn hard to claim they're doing it wrong and we're doing it right these days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,893 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

Are you sure about those figures?

I have our 14 day rate at 408

And the UK 14 day rate at: 737

How can you say that you have no idea if vaccine passports actually work in supressing the virus, and then 5 lines later say that they could have limited the peak in winter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,893 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

The UK stated they won't have a winter wave and they will introduce vaccine passports in the winter. Now they are saying that they will have a winter wave and they won't be introducing vaccine passports.

Maybe one thing has nothing to do with the other.

Huge parts of society? Almost everything is open.

...and? That's completely different from, "having huge parts of society still closed down." Isn't it?

Did you not know, even mentioning that Covid is something that still needs a tiny bit of attention and maybe a couple of things to help control it is the exact same as total and complete lockdown

I think you may find that this thread is about restrictions and the lifting of them, of which we still live under and have been threatened with more to come in the winter.
