It could be just my feeling, but looks like the news of somebody getting fired for not being vaccinated, would be accepted as a victory of the rightful over the unjust. If this is really the mindset, and I am quite sure it is, then this country and the world in general are really going down a slippery slope. I am confident that in europe such discrimination won't happen, e.g. working from home will be offered where possible to whoever cannot take a vaccine, actually would be quite funny if the "unvaxxed" (as somebody like to call them) will have the benefit to work from home while everybody else will be "forced" to go to the office, but at the same time it will contribute to a 2 tier society even more. Really fun times ahead of us, they managed to twist the facts in a way that convinced people that the new boogey man are now the unvaccinated! In the 80's was the gay community to be avoided at all costs because they could spread their HIV virus, then was the turn of Muslim and whoever had a "different" skin color but nowadays the new threat are "the unvaxxed" .. god give me strength...

Nah. I have been going over and back to the USA for many years now so i have no issues whatsoever integrating into US society. All is good there.

You don’t know me from Adam but feel free to wonder all you like about how my human interaction is. Do i care? Not really.

But if you must know i’m not in favour of a 2 tier society at all but if you’re one of those that walks down the street swinging the arms like some big man boasting “ no government is gonna make me put that in my arm blah blah” well then accept the consequences of a possible 2 tier society. As you can see it’s already begun.

It's a racing certainty that a new DEADLIER ! variant will emerge from the wings in due course,it may well be another Covid, but more likely to be something new and FAR more deadly, unless one distances, washes,or injects yet another chemical into the body.

We now know the screenplay, and it's based upon FEAR,which is now a far greater pandemic than Covid ever was.

How we (The People) are to ever regain our freedom and/or self confidence and respect is entirely up to ourselves, but I doubt that Irish sentiment will ever rise to the levels elsewhere in Europe..

Exactly. The parallels are obvious. During the height of the aids hysteria, gay men were looked at by some as mere virus vectors, to be avoided at all costs, regardless if they were even sick or not. Now it's the unvaccinated cast as the walking virus vectors even if not infected, which most aren't btw. History has shown this should go well, right?

For someone who's constantly banging on about crazy Americans and their antivax views, it's a bit weird that you'd go there to live.

A number of posters on here seen very happy to segregate their fellow citizens and classify the "unvaxxed" as second class citizens and to treat them accordingly. I always wondered how authoritarian regimes could possibly come into being, but the last year and a half has shown that large swathes of society are very happy to go along with whatever the "authorities" tell them to do and to persecute bogeymen in society. In this case the "unvaxxed".

It’s because i have a lot of family there. Maybe that statement might be a bit hard for you to grasp or understand though.

Yes of course. I've posted about it here over the last few months. Got jabbed April/May. What relevance does that have to anything??

I don’t think some can comprehend that it’s a temporary measure to allow sone businesses to start to get back on their feet while everyone is given the opportunity to get vaccinated. The option NPHET gave the government was keep it all closed until that point. This was the alternative. It will be over soon. Pretty much because within the next few weeks every adult who uses any reason in their decision making will have been vaccinated

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,738 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

I thought NPHET were an advisory body, but now they are giving "options"? Every other nation in Europe managed to implement testing as part of their reopening. But not here due to NPHETs anti science view of antigen testing.

No, nphet wanted to keep things closed. This was the alternative implemented by the government

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,738 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Every other nation in Europe reopened including the use of antigen testing to allow those not yet vaccinated partake in those parts of society. But not here. Why not? You can check in with Philip "snake oil" Nolan if you need an answer.

Because here they wanted to encourage the maximum number of people to be vaccinated. Because that is the true solution. The virus can circulate freely, with boosters for the vulnerable, once the overwhelming majority are vaccinated. Exposure to the virus for the overwhelming majority will be the equivalent of a booster for most of us. This seem to be what the authorities are working towards - an endemic virus to which each of us has a high probability of being exposed to each year, but due to vaccination there is a low probability of severe illness. And each subsequent exposure acting as a defector booster for most. For the vulnerable, the booster will join the annual flu shot. They just want the maximum possible proportion of people vaccinated first. And if you actually read and listen to the statements from nphet and government over this past number of weeks, this is what is being said

Vaccine coercion really isn't a great look you know.

And many of the younger people couldn't even register for a vaccine until very very recently so they were being excluded from parts of society for something they couldn't even get their hand on. Not a great look.

This of course leaves us in the ludicrous situation where someone can fly abroad on the strength of a test only, dine indoors abroad, mix with any number of people, fly home on a plane and mix at home when they land. But they can't go into a coffee shop or restaurant for a drink or food indoors in this country!! Absolutely ludicrous, but no surprise to see people trying to justify this as perfectly fine.

You don't even have to get on a plane. You can drive up the road.

Excuse me for barging in but what you're saying makes no sense. The virus cannot be gotten rid of. That was more or less clear from day 1 and every scientist ever said so and still does.

Coercion? Anyone who doesn’t get vaccinated when given the opportunity are one of 1. Lazy, 2. Gullible to misinformation 3. Medically prevented or 4. Batsh*t.

So basically it was to encourage the lazy to get off their asses and the gullible to see sense and register

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,738 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

No comment on the fact you can fly abroad, or even just drive up the road to NI, and partake in all these activities without any vaccine?

No comment either that many younger adults are still awaiting their vaccines. Even those who want them at still awaiting appointments and won't be fully vaccinated until well into September yet are excluded from parts of society here.

I wonder why you are ignoring this? Do you think that's acceptable? I presume you do as long as it doesn't affect you right?

Is it terrible to wish for the maximum number of people possible to have been vaccinated before letting the endemic virus circulate freely in a population with high protection against serious illness?

How many young adults are won't be fully vaccinated well into September?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,738 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Some of them are just getting their first jab this week and next week. Second one will be early September meaning mid Sept before fully vaxxed. Looks like a few hundred thousand in that cohort based on HSE projections, who are saying almost all adults will be fully vaxxed by end of September. That leaves those people excluded from certain parts of society for another nearly 2 months - people who are willing to get vaccinated.

You missed my question I asked how many not some. Portal opened for that age group on the 19th July.
