That's kind of what they've done. Both NPHET and Government

A lot of places started taking bookings for indoor dining last week. Some places are booked up for the week of the 5th onwards...

MM said no changes for the 5th of July less than 24 hours ago and then they wake up to him doing a U turn, not even 10 hours later...

I mean, kinda is pulling the rug there tbf...Even worse, they've leaving them hanging

Nice to see that HIQA stating the obvious 15 months into this.
Being healthy may help you not get too sick with Covid.

NPHET wont take the risk and accept that younger people might not need hospital treatment if they do get the virus but nope like the positivity around the Antigen testing they don't want to hear about it and they will scare the Government into thinking the same

Did they say anything about knocking team sports on the head and shutting gyms for the entire population for 7 months?

You've said the same thing on multiple threads in the last day. Repeating the same point doesn't make any difference. There's feck all you or me can do about it at the end of the day, but repeating the same point over and over again doesn't do anyone any good.

Just go out for a pint and relax, switch off

Would it be better if they gave them a speculative yes and then pulled the rug next week?

No. But this is going on for 16 or so months now and it's been well explained to politicians that hospitality needs extended notice to reopen, so whatever plan the government came up with needed to include this.

It's an obvious failing on the part of government.

    Can you even see that?

I wonder if NPHET has a register of members interests ? ;)

Took 15 months for our Nanny state to advice on common sense - Stay fit / dont smoke / moderate alcohol and Vitamin D - meanwhile in that 15 months they have been banning team sports , banning gyms and the rest - the impact on our young is going to be truly horrific ,

Wonder is it a case of fly these kites and then still go ahead with all as planned the 5th and be the heroes? Cause it makes no sense to be doing this with the hospital numbers we have and even UK are seeing with Delta.

Of course, the announcement should be Monday at the latest, the fact that it's being left to Thursday is ridiculous.

Doesn't change the fact that the chain has been preannouncing-silence-speculation-doubt-suspected leaks-actual leak- announcement for over a year now, I don't know why people are still falling for it.

All because of a tweet from Tony Holohan that they guess that there are 20% Delta cases but nothing official is known. By the way still no word on how they came to that 20% figure.

We are ahead of NPHET projections on all metrics and yet they still want to delay.

Its hard to actually believe what's happening, what the hell has happened to our country?

Weak government, weaker opposition, docile population, appalling media, cautious conservative country unless it’s some trendy social media led cause and of course social media itself. What a time to be Irish.

There should be no question of people "falling for it". The communication has been an omnishambles from the get go. We shouldn't have to settle for this as you think we should.

His last tweet a month ago had riot police on the streets and dire pronouncements about case numbers. In fact numbers have continued to decline since then with no spikes evident. Up until his tweet this week, things were looking good for July 5th with all the right noises. Since then the politicians have fallen into line with talk of dark clouds and possible delays.

Surely the back benchers and other party members will be having words with their cabinet colleagues and saying a failure to ease restrictions will not go down well with the electorate.

I see Richard Chambers is after writing a book on covid. From nobody to celeb reporter writing books with huge social media following, what a gift covid has been for his like. Can’t blame them for milking it really, their industry was in the toilet before this.

Tony H is revvered by 50% of the country , he got the Freedom of Dublin a few weeks back.
50% of the Population are happy to live in this state of Limbo , semi locked down and told what to do at the daily 6 PM briefings - 50% of the population are living in a state of over-anxiety of the virus , yet ther are only 39 people in hospital with Covid today, and the Indian variant has thankfully started to decline rapidly in India. I have been to India many times , great country but has great poverty and is over-crowded, Covid was always going to be a bigger problem ther than Ireland.

Saw that. Just waiting for The Zara King chat show...

Their industry was in the toilet because they are toilet! From Louis Theroux to Dan Reed, from Chambers to King, from Dan Wootton to Piers Morgan, from Claire Byrne to Matt Cooper.

Wouldn't clean my toilet with any of them

I miss actual news reporters. Remember the ones who weren’t interested in self promotion and making friends and instead would ask intelligent questions that would hold decision makers feet to the fire?

There is no ambiguity. He was asked whether there would be a lockdown this winter and the answer was a variation of 'maybe'.

'Maybe' is as about an ambiguous an answer as you can get.

Tony Holohan is revered and I saw a survey today that RTE is the most trusted source for news in the country and that 78% trust them. So anyone on here predicting that there'll be riots if restrictions aren't lifted are kidding nobody but themselves... or if there are riots it'll be by very much a minority of the nation doing so and the majority of the nation will be horrified as they watch the scenes unfold on the Six One news.

Just for clarity I personally am not a big fan of Tony and almost never watch RTE but I do recognise the fact that my opinions/views do not tally with the views/opinions of the majority.

True , but its not just us , look at Australia , some of what has happened in Melbourne has been truly shocking - Dont know if it is all the virtue signalling on Social media , but the whole world has become rather unpleasant.

Why would they antagonize their paymaster? Let’s be honest, none of us would. The instructions are sent out and the bots do their thing. It’s the same everywhere but unfortunately Ireland is a backwards kip so more people are inclined to just fall for it.

There's no ambiguity that Martin has refused to rule out another lockdown. It has been ruled in, however faintly.

If it could 'maybe' happen then it is a possibility, which was what I was originally arguing.

The pubs won’t open indoors in 2021 in Ireland. Abuse and tin foil hat me all you like, wait and see.
