In the same boat. Weekend weather looks anything but nailed down. GFS and ECM currently at odds on what weekend will be like so need to see which way it goes. Thurs and Fri weren't looking great but looking a bit better now so maybe same will happen.. particularly if you in the East.

Let's hope so, I'm in the West so let's see how it pans out for Spanish point ☺

In parts of East Leinster the weather seem to be stuck in a cycle of lovely sunny early mornings and late evenings with the rest of the day overcast , very warm and windy .
In my memory this is quite unusual . Can any of you more expert weather watchers explain why this particular pattern is happening.

Daytime convection - the morning sun heats the ground. This heat rises meeting the cooler air above, causing clouds to form in the late morning. These clouds dissipate in the evening as the sun loses it's intensity.

    sun01.gif

The effects of the "sea breeze" are pronounced on the above map, particularly on southern and eastern coasts where the surrounding land is typically warmest causing cooler sea air to push inland to replace the heat rising inland.

It's often worth taking a trip to Wexford to see this in action, passing Mulinavat and heading towards New Ross and you can see the clear blue sky up in front.

Also evident on that map is that the immediate west coast is significantly sunnier than just a few km inland. My childhood home was right on the coast and speaking to the parents who still live there they frequently report sunny skies when its 100% overcast here in Letterkenny.

Main reason as you say is likely convective cumulus cloud not forming on the immediate coast due to cooling sea breeze

Was down in Bandon last weekend, I was in my sisters car and the temperature recorded at about 4.30 in the afternoon reached 28 degrees and on Sunday I was in the same car and we were perhaps a few miles out of Cork city going towards Blarney direction and the temperature recorded was 29 degrees, this would've been about 2ish in the afternoon. Now its a small car so it could have been warmed up adding a few degrees to the actual temperature. The forecasters on boards, can the inside of the car increase the real time temperature by a few degrees?

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

No. The thermometer is just inside the front grille, in front of the radiator, so it's not affected by the temperature inside the car. In strong sunshine a car can read several degrees high if it's been parked in the sun for a while, so it's still hot under the bonnet for the first few kms. Even then, an asphalt road will heat up to 40-50 °C and a car's thermometer, which is fairly low down, will register some of that excess heat. Never trust a car's reading in strong sunshine (or even otherwise, if in traffic).

Breezy fresh and bright here today but you can see the clouds gathering. Breeze is fresh blew over a few of our pots earlier.

Generous sunshine in southern Laois after a hazy start and a rouge shower that literally shed twenty five drops of rain! Almost 21c in a south easterly breeze blowing 10mph and gusting near 20mph. Kinda takes the edge of what would otherwise be a fantastic day.

The 1pm sat image shows the whole county of Cork under cloud, almost as if the atmosphere respected boundaries!

40 hrs? that is pretty good going to be honest. Was expecting a half sunny morning here but woke up to layer of particularly dense altostratus. Looked like the heavens were about to open but of course, not even that.

Getting bluer in Dublin, hopefully it clears up totally and can enjoy some hours of sun before the weather regresses

We have a saying round these parts 'That won't come here though'
Sunny breezy and 20c at the moment in Arklow
West may well be best soon enough and for a while according to Marco petagno's tweet today
The West NW high cell is coming...

I'm fairly sure Dublin will turn blue and very sunny in the next half an hour or so. The clouds that were here just melted away very quickly around 1.30. I wasn't expecting today to be so good in terms of sunshine and very welcome it is too after the disappointment of Sunday.

22c here now and 22C reported at Phoenix Park, I reckon 23C is definitely achieveable.

Overcast and drizzly in Cork. Mist on airport hill. Not foul, but not far off it. Max of 15c so far.

If you look at this satellite animation, you can see a series of stationary wave clouds (beneath the higher cloud) lying from north Kerry up to the west coast of Connacht. Probably best viewed zoomed in if possible.

What’s going on with all this wind? It’s practically midsummer and it’s blowing a gale here in Tipp. It’s been so windy for June and it’s taking the good out of the bit of heat we’re getting.

    Farming commentary updated 3pm today

    Sunshine
Sunshine amounts have varied over the past week. The south and southeast have been brighter than normal, with 45.9 hours of sunshine recorded at Cork Airport (112% of its average). However, it has been much cloudier elsewhere, with sunshine amounts generally below average. The northwest was the dullest region with just 13.1 hours of sunshine recorded at Belmullet (35% of its average). The coming week will often bring a mix of showers and sunny spells, so sunshine totals are likely to be closer to normal in all areas. However, frontal systems moving in from the Atlantic at times may bring a little more cloud to western areas at times.

    Rain
The past week has been drier than normal across the country, with below average rainfall totals generally. The east and midlands were the driest regions with just 0.2mm of rainfall recorded at Dublin Airport (1% of its average). The southwest and northwest were wetter, with rainfall totals closer to average there.

the cloud layer from the west has reached here near, was beautiful and sunny up to 10 minutes ago. Big changes are on the way from tonight with a much cooler and fresher pattern taking over for the next 7 days at least. Hopefully the warmer weather will return before the end of June.

Very very fine mist here in cork city, Looks like crap weather in the distance/from a distance but is fine when outside - odd. Humid. Warm breeze too, no cold.

Gives a good idea as to where the sun is shining.. and where it isn't:
