I was told im next to be called in my county over two weeks ago and haven't heard anything since :(

I was next in line for my county for 8 weeks before finally being contacted. Fingers crossed you don’t have to wait so long. The clearance process and being offered a position happened very quickly for me - Less than 2 weeks

Hi I've interview for Limerick next week . OOM 40 .

Oh wow. They're really slow at taking people this time.

Thanks for letting me know. I won't keep my fingers crossed for an interview before the panel closes.

Just a query does it look likely that staff will be asked to return to the office( going by the vaccine rollout )by September?

I think it depends on where you are working. They will have to maintain social distancing for a good while going forward. This means that they won't be able to operate at full capacity for some time.

My PERSONAL opinion is that people will be given the option of working from home several days a week, if they wish. Possibly a rotating pattern of 2 days in the office one week, 3 days in the office the next week. And by default, hot-desking. Two people sharing the same desk or workspace.

This is going to be a change in working conditions and may not suit everyone. We all changed our working conditions dramatically in March 2020, thinking (a) it was going to be very short lived and (b) it was going to be a very dramatic and possibly disturbing few weeks. But everything would sort itself quickly.

We know now that that wasn't the case. And Forsa will certainly be involved in discussions as well.

Like you, I love working from home. Its more productive, I can control the temperature of where I work, and my general environment is much nicer. Yes, I do miss the networking and the informal chats on the corridors. Or informal training, where you can sit in with someone and pick up new skills or learn about new areas. But the part-time working from home will hopefully be the best of both worlds.

What I would REALLY love is if we could do the 37 hours over 4 days. Work 9h15 minutes (plus lunch break) four days a week. Do 8am - 6pm. It would be a practical compensation for the loss of flexi-time.

If you’re being recommended for a position and the panel ends before being assigned what happens then?

If you've been allocated and are just waiting for local HR / clearance you're fine.

Does anyone know if the County Council tend to be slower getting through panels for CO (less vacancies perhaps) than the Civil Service panels?

I placed 13 on panel after interview in March (no mention of batches) but no word yet. I’m dying to get offered something and the waiting game is torture!

I got offered a position for CO about 10 days ago, I was placed 14, overall it was about 10 weeks after interview

It depends on the office some work the fixed 9am - 5.45pm (5.15 on Friday) civil service hours, some offer flexi. Almost all the offices on flexi will have some local arrangement to cover the office until at least 5. The other thing that can happen is a change of Chief or Super with their own ideas on what needs to be covered.

I'd really appreciate if anyone can advise, is it possible to get subsidized for a training course or a degree as a CO? If so, does it have to be certain ones related to your role or can you do something you are interested in?do you have to wait until your probation time is finished before you can apply? Thanks,

About two weeks ago they told me they are on batch 15 and 9 people until I'm offered in batch 17 so I'd say you'll hear soon.

Theyr on batch 16 now, im no.3 & he said theres 1 person ahead of me to be contacted. Hopefully it moves quick enough!

Ideally any for which course you are asking to be subsidized will be relevant to your role or to the work of your department.

I have found that, in general, departments are very supportive of personal development and it's no harm to apply for funding. All they can do is say no.

Any advice how I could apply? Do you go to your HEO or EO and would you need to apply for funding through peoplepoint? 😊Thanks

This is the general rules for civil service, further education is done via the refund of fees scheme, some departments have further criteria around business needs and courses being recognised Gar relevant to your role or duties etc but most departments are very supportive of up skilling and further education.
