Travel is a two way thing

For instance if you live in Munster you can travel to Germany today with no test. Coming back is a different story. It looks likely we will have unrestricted UK-IE travel by July, no tests, no vaccines

Once our numbers start to come down from 450/day place we have plateaued at we will meet the EU green light requirement fairly quickly, so thats getting there sorted. So you could find yourself getting the second jab and flying out for a 2 week holiday the day after and rolling back in on day 15...

The whole travel passport thing will probably be redundant for EU travel within a few months of launch, but will remain for travel into the EU.

The gardai are no longer staked out at the airport so we are back to the circus we had last year of don't travel but we aren't going to try to stop you. Thats the job of the authorities of where you are going to.

Do you need to complete a passenger locator form when flying from England to NI?

Ah, the usual empty waffle from trampoline Steve then.

What I find strange is he come across quite well in interviews, sounding confident and competent, and then you see the mess he makes of MHQ etc.

That to me is the biggest obsticle at the moment. The fine is still in place, as are the Gardai, and who knows when it'll end.

Does Germany allow regional restrictions even though you need to fly from a red area like that?

And yes, the Gardai are still there. What makes you say otherwise?

Not quite. Germany still requires a test (antigen/PCR) for all air travellers, except those who are fully vaccinated.

The new Regulations from today removed many of the regional (Lander) exceptions.

Until now, NRW had a super flexible policy where a test (even pre-departure) would free people from quarantine regardless of where one was coming from (except a very small number of high risk mutation regions). Now, people coming from the "higher risk" regions (such as the Netherlands) need to do 5 days of quarantine regardless of testing.

This was introduced at very short notice and has caused quite a bit of panic for many.

Still, Germany's approach is a universe away from Ireland. It seems science and risk based and gives people the real prospect of a summer holiday.

    From the Irish Examiner, following SDs interview. Apologies, I missed the point he made below, I guess my brain switches off some times when he speaks;

Mr Donnelly said he anticipated "a considered view" from the National Immunisation Advisory Council (Niac) shortly on what levels of protection will be offered after vaccination from the various types to qualify for the European travel certificate.

This could be in place by late June or July, he said.

Northern Ireland will be giving an update on their restrictions sometime today so will hopefully hear if they are on board from May 17 for travel opening as well, or if it's a bit later. Should open up a good few options if they are, rather than waiting on the snail like crew here.

Tazz. What are you on about? A simple question as to when got fined and you lose it?

    I'll leave you to it.

I think an announcement from NI would be of great benifit to us. Our lot have been so keen on a all island approach when it came to implementing restrictions. I think it may force their hand to reopen too.

I have no idea tbh… I just thought was because that’s the way the trials were run?

There’s “talk” atm that the under 50’s will be considered fully vaccinated after one shot with mRNA vaccines.

I thought that if you were fully vaccinated by any vaccine approved by EMA that you would qualify under the vaccinated part of the EU Cert.
Also no mention of the other 2 criteria - negative Test and recovered from Covid (within 6 months?)

Its not decided yet. They are still negotiating and Ireland will retain control as it falls under 'health' and thats a national decision

Isn't that only if you have recovered from Covid ?

That appears to be an ongoing theme in the Irish media, and I think even the government. They're just omitting facts to stall travel or encourage vaccine uptake.

Fecking Leinster keeping us on the PCR test list for Spain.

Does anyone have last week's regional map so that we can see where progress has been made across the EU?

Pre and recovered covid will only need one shot yes once it’s trashed out in the HSE/NIAC in the coming days but they’re also talking about mRNA one shot for all under 50s as a default position.
(Btw , I’m hearing this 2nd hand from a mate in the HSE , hopefully it comes to pass)

I was thinking very few, or nobody, would get the reference - and if they did it would identify a certain age range ;)

Could be the anthem for the thread?

Is any other Country doing this ??
1 dose only of Pfizer or Moderna for people under 50 ?

The vaccines work against the Indian ‘scariant’

Ask India how they are working out. You need to get to a critical mass of vaccinated people for them to work overall.

It's quite depressing when you find yourself being one of those 'people of a certain age':rolleyes:

Dreadful situation there, but not really comparable with the situation in Europe. Far lower vaccination rates, very densely populated.

For those who may want/need to travel to Germany I found this article... (and also how one other EU country is planning ahead)

    https://www.thelocal.de/20210512/germany-eases-quarantine-rules-with-eye-on-summer-travel/

So maybe it's aimed at Germans going abroad and coming back but if I could travel to Germany soon without having to quarantine , it maybe an option.

At least it shows things are slowly moving in the right direction internationally

Fair points but we need to get to that critical mass of vaccinations before opening up.

I wonder how much control they've actually had on people travelling given all the land borders? Must be very hard to police.

Surely by mid to late June we should be there? Even with one dose administered to most adults, and the at risk groups fully vaccinated? I think the main concern here is keeping hospital cases down, and we can see the remarkable change there already. Given that many EU countries are behind us on vaccination, I wonder what parameters they are using in terms of vaccination targets?

I'd say and have said for sometime now, by the end of June.
