A coordinated hit? Are you for real? Dont post in this thread again.

Apologies, this was not intended to appear agressive, I've edited the post.

They cannot pick and choose what countries the green certificate applies to. It’s all or noticing

Tbh - I am now a bit confused about the EU Green Cert and what it will mean to Irish residents trying to travel within the EU.

Sadly that is *exactly* what FFG are hoping for. Mass confusion so everyone stays home and gets gauged for staycations, eating outside in the wind and rain.

    As far as I can tell, from an Irish prospective;

    1. It'll help us access other EU countries without a test if fully vaccinated, or recovered. The language used in the atricle referenced above would suggest that the EU countries we can visit will be controlled. That is impossible under EU law AFIK.

    2. It doesn't seem to give us any additional rights leaving the country.

    3. What it does for people flying into Ireland is anyones guess, but I could see it being accepted as a way to avoid quarantine for visitors, but not for Irish people returning.

I think the green cert is based on good faith between EU countries, but we don't have much left..

I agree tbh. I feel it is very deliberate to keeping referring to the EU Cert as a "Vaccine Cert" and to keep talking about only vaccinated people being allowed to travel etc

But, I really want to understand myself what Ireland is signing up to and not rely on spin from politicians and/or journalists.

Our planned end of June Holiday to France is cancelled and I can't see us personally going abroad this Summer (and possibly in 2021 at all) due to costs and being tied to school holidays. But I still want to understand it all for when we can travel ourselves.

...I certainly hope that Ursula von der Leyen reads the Independant...

    I really hope she doesn't.
Our reputation as a lagard country is bad enough already.

Has anyone had a response from the EU yet since Monday's barrage of complaints?

Also, it may be useful to draw up a list of people we can voice our concerns with on twitter.

I'll start the list with Cathal Crowe TD, Fianna Fail Spokesperson on Tourism and Aviation.

Ive already discussed the matter with him this week.

He is a supporter of the travel fine as a public health measure (so basically hiding behind public health) and could not give me a date as to when the Green Cert would be operational in Ireland.

Did anyone see Thomas Byrne TD on Virgin this am ? I didn't so if anyone did, could they please summarise what he said ?

He's very active on twitter at the moment on trying to get antigen testing introduced for travel. He says he wants a safe and speedy return to travel. That's what brought me to suggest him as one to lobby.

Basically they hope to have the cert up and running in June, but warned everyone not to book holidays yet, as things can change and you won't get your money back. No specifics.

McDonkey now on local radio. He’s f****g everywhere. We shouldn’t be travelling anymore. Keep it domestic just incase we import a scariant that could evade the vaccines and will spread like wildfire within the vaccinated.:rolleyes:

Is he just anti travel or is he neurotic?

Any good questions we could email in for Pat to ask the Minister?

Did he say Ireland want to have it up and running in June? Or the EU? Because we know now that there is a massive difference.

Thanks for that. Didn't miss much then !

I took it as Ireland would do it an the same time as the rest of the EU in June, no mention of delaying it until August

I guess the first question is when the €2000 fine will be removed? Is it not a violation of our EU rights, and will it not force people to travel via Northern Ireland.

Someone with a better knowlege of the laws might have a better suggestion?

Maybe we can start a gofundme to challenge the statutory instrument, in my view it is repugnant to the Irish constitution and to the Maastricht treaty.

    I've asked him to ask:

    1) What date will the €2,000 fine be removed for travelling to the airport?

    2) Does the current fine not just force people to travel via Belfast (and then we have no data on them)?

    3) When will the EU countries be removed from the mandatory hotel quarantine list?

    Thanks. I've texted something similar.

Can you please ask the minister when the €2000 non essential travel fine will be lifted? Our rights to free travel are being violated, and the measure is no longer proportional with national travel restrictions eased. It'll also force people to use Northern Ireland as the back door.

What will this do to our international reputation when we should be reopened?

What will be the number of investments and jobs lost by closing our borders to the largely vaccinated US?

You would probable find someone willing to work pro bona at least to some extent and if your case is found to have merit, even if you lose, the costs will be covered by the state.

Gemma and John only got lumped with costs because they insisted on representing themselves and didnt present a case at all, just gibberish 5G nonsense

The EU travel Covid situation map has been updated:

    https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/covid-19/situation-updates/weekly-maps-coordinated-restriction-free-movement

A couple of more yellow areas popping up in Italy and Austria. Some regions have gone from yellow to red. There are very few areas marked as dark red, which is a higher risk grade than Leinster (light red). Mostly bits of Northern France, the Netherlands, Cyprus and Sweden.

Fecking Leinster keeping us on the PCR test list for Spain.

Why is the green cert going to be for “fully” vaccinated people - is it not the case that Pfizer and AZ are giving as good cover as J&J from a single dose? If it’s two doses plus two weeks no one bar healthcare workers and vulnerable people will be fully done before mid / end august. Are we really going to welcome fully vaccinated tourists here this summer and not allow Irish people to leave?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,447 ✭✭✭embraer170

I think the really sad thing is that by June we will see:
    - Lots of Brits taking holidays in Ireland;
    - Possibly quite a few French/Germans/Dutch/Belgians/Swiss too (especially those who own second homes in Ireland and are already allowed to travel here).

And the Irish still won't be able to legitimately travel abroad.

Without the second dose do they remain that effective? I thought the second dose was needed as a long term booster? Like the second Hep C jab

I have no idea tbh… I just thought was because that’s the way the trials were run?

Has the minister been on PK yet? Had to turn it off for a while for a meeting.

He was on. You didn't really miss much. He said we're adopting the green cert and he wants travel to resume but no dates. They read out a message from an airline pilot who said they were only hiding behind NPHET. SD said it was the virus to blame, not the government. A lot of nothing really. Pat had a hop off him over the antigen testing.
