The gardai are scared of travellers and to be honest I would say alot of settled people are. If you try to challenge them it usually becomes violent or aggressive really quickly.

I have seen it happen to schoolmates and the general public a few times.

You'd hope the media go into this in detail tomorr. It's completely unacceptable. Who the hell organised this wedding.

RTE will be all over it tomorrow. Non stop on every program:pac:

    #truthmatters

Claire Byrne in particular will be examining the challenges of applying pre-wedding fake tan.

How could you really enjoy it? I'd spend the entire time waiting for the police to show up to hit me with a fine. I wouldn't be able to enjoy myself at all.

If you were in there fella, the cops showing up would be the least of your problems!

This does seem like a failure of the public authorities, if this was on council land then they should simply have refused people admission to it or used other approaches like disconnecting the power.

They'd most likely have their own generator in one of their 211-reg vans.

I don't Gardai are afraid at all, they are pragmatic knowing full well nothing will be done to penalise this shower. I'd wager not a single fine (if issued) will be paid and not a single Summons served, if a potential prosecution gets to a court, Judges too have found time and time again their hands are tied.

In essence, Ends Kenny stood up in the Dail and gave carte Blanche to a section of society to do as they please, when they please it's a simple as that really. It's perhaps Ironic & indeed sad, it's taken a Pandemic to prove this point so clearly.

Ah so one gathering of over 200 people is 'different' to another gathering of over 200 people.

Funny how you called for one that didn't involve travelers and when I pointed one out to you, you shifted the goalposts and said it's 'different'.

Flouting restrictions is flouting restrictions. Suddenly it's gone from this happening in the first place to 'oh look how they spoke to the guards'.

Yes, it is a disgrace, just like the one in Wexford. However you are fooling absolutely nobody here.

Just own it. Say you started this because you hate the travelers and nothing else.

You can think what you like, I couldn't care less,

But I will tell you what I hate, is people defending the indefensible, and trying to brand people racist.

Maybe they had a strict 2 metre rule.

Hard to practice ones grabbing culture with a 2m social distancing rule.

First they came for the socialists...

211 business class landcruiser with 19 inch alloys no less.

Unfortunately you are right. It's just maddening when you see them going in heavy on people who flout the rules e.g the church gathering and know they won't have any pushback from.

That's part of modern policing the world over though.

I wouldn't waste your time, sadly and quite bizzarely some will never get it even when it's glaringly obvious is different strokes for different folks

Well done to them. Getting on with life. Happy for the couple. I'm sure they are bothered by some racist whingers on here.

Why isn't there a thread about South Side coffee queues or the throngs on Dun Laoighre pier? Class is why

    multi tasking virtue signalling

race and class , on course for an idenity politics hat trick

Yes indeed, I witnessed first hand some quite appalling behaviour at a cemetery in a Midlands town a few years back. The hypocrisy of being allegedly religious and yet the mindless thuggery and sickening violence on and over the graves of people buried on sacred ground, I witnessed and widely reported on was an eye opener for me. An organised and well planned event I might add.

What would be the point? . We all know the craic.

Martin Collins will appear on the radio at some stage whinging about double standards and ethnic something or other and that'll be the end of it until the next time.

the morning after the Carrick on Shannon funeral , he was on morning ireland and Aine Lawlor ( in those sombre tones of hers ) opened the interview by asking him

" are you worried anti traveller racists might exploit this gathering "

As a teacher who taught over 200 today (without social distancing, of course) in an environment of 1000 people where COVID is currently active I see no problem with 200 people meeting up. Seems fine to me.

    Were your 200 drinking cans?

No alcohol as it's a school but people have to eat/drink without masks.

NPHET/HSE/FF/FG couldn't care less. Covid currently running through the school with many out.

    So why the issue here?

Comes across more as racism to me.

I think, I am just going to pick and choose what laws I'll follow, fcuk ot, just disregard everything, do as I please, a free for all.
Seems to be the better option,

What I dont understand is why the Gardai go in like hard men against students or decent citizens sitting around the canal or in the park or practicing their religious faith (only for certain religions, wont go well breaking up the wrong religious gathering), but dont seem to have the will, interest or ability to apply the law for those that routinely break it.
I seem to have come to my conclusions too late in life, but what seems to discourage the Gardai from doing their job is a threat or violence??
    something isnt right here

    I will indeed.

At least the nutters of boards.ie have found a group they hate more than teachers.....travellers.

A racist thread which should be closed down.

Look on the bright side - there were probably less people scammed by roofers and tarmac boyos today than other days and less house break-ins
