You really dont have to justify yourself here. The merely fact that someone would have a dig at you for sharing your sentiment on the government just because you live abroad shows the ignorance that many people have.

It boils down to good old fashioned Irish begrudgery and nastiness. The Bono complex.

And as for the high horsers who claim they have followed the rules since March 2020, to borrow their words, "People can't be trusted to quarantine".
Same can be said about those who claim to be "following the rules" since 2020

    Is this directed at me?
I didn't have a dig at anyone, I asked a question because I thought that poster said a few months ago that he lived in the middle East, his post yesterday read like he lived here.
I'm not sure why you could think I'm begrudging about people living overseas? I've lived overseas myself, and I will be again in 8 years.
You're all so quick to jump on anyone that dares to admit to following the rules, that is wrong.
I think that poster took offence when there was no need

No it’s not a dig at you. If it was I’d have named you. It doesn’t matter anyway who said those things anyway, I’m just offering my perspective on it

It’s politics. Donnelly is an at risk minister. He’s not popular in his own party and certainly hasn’t been popular among the public. The shinners are tipped to replace him in his constituency. So how he’s tackling it is essentially adapting the travel policy the Shinners want - MHQ. That way he *may* keep voters in his constituency happy

Incidentally the shinners are full of sh1t anyway. They want MHQ for all yet go silent when you ask them if that means closing the NI border. Dozy ****.

So is MHQ a Donnelly-only initiative or does he also have the support of NPHET in his crusade?

NPHET want planet earth on the MHQ list indefinitely

It's all Nphet with their travel expert advisory group, Donnelly hardly came up with this **** on his own. Nphet again on radio today with the usual-variants, variants, variants

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Don't let NPHET see the new Loki trailer on Disney+, where Loki is branded a 'variant'. That'll be Asgard added to the MHQ list now :P

In fairness the person was talking about who they'll vote for next because of this and their local FG TD. etc

I'm not sure who the local FG TD is in the Middle East but Ya can't vote for them if you don't live in Ireland. Unless you suggest testing the constitutionality of that?

Sounds like they've got a particular issue though with the issuing of visas to spouses which sounds extremely **** so I wouldn't be dismissive of their anger. Hopefully they get it sorted soon.

Donnelly wouldn't have the intelligence to come up with something like this.
Hes better off getting out his coloured crayons and coming up with a list or something.

Nphet again on radio today with the usual-variants, variants, variants

Yet the UK said variants dont bother them and their plan for reopening up.

I see Varadkar now saying they aren’t as worried about variants now as they used to be.

Sad state of affairs when Varadkar is the voice of reason. Although in fairness to him he is
Miles ahead of that clown from Cork and at least stood up to NPHET before the mob shouted him down.

Point well made. It seems the ladies are now in the hotel but there will be a constitutional challenge of the legislation.

That's not quite what he said.

He said if it turns out the vaccines work against all variants then they won't need to be as worried about the variants, but it's an evolving situation.

I actually wished he did say that, but he was diplomatic in how he said it.

There’s lot of info out there that suggest they do. You are nitpicking, the usual on these forums.

Try reading / watching the news. They are in the hotel isolating.

If your father refuses to isolate, he will be subject to prosecution as well and in that case would also find himself in Mountjoy until he did agree to isolate

Dubai is on the list because of the high level prevalence of the South African variant there. And whilst that has been detected here in small number of caes - the ban aims to prevent increased numbers of this strain being imported.

    The problem with PCR?

PCR is at best a snapshot in time. Once taken - it does not stop someone contacting covid whilst in transit, in the airport or flying. There is also an issue with false negatives...

Your dad whilst breaking the travel advisory- did not travel to and from a country on the red list and therefore can quarantine at home ...

I agree mostly with your point but saying a PCR is a 'snapshot in time' isn't correct imo. It means you almost certainly do not have covid up until the point the test is taken. Of course you 'could' catch it after, but it's more than a snapshot as it as close to confirming all the prevailing time before getting the test, not just a 'snapshot'.

No judge will lock up a 70 odd year old.You know this.Who are you or any guard to tell anyone, their travel is not essential?

This is just ridiculous, a guard is there to uphold the law. The law makes provision for gardai to issue fines for non essential travel. What do you think gives gardai the right?

Red list. What a load of bull.Did you actually look at the countries on the list before posting that.

Yes, if the person refused to isolate then the judge will have zero option but to remand in custody. Age is not a get out of jail card when you are standing in front of the judge admitting you intend to continue offending. They certainly wont want to lock him up but they will.

Who am I or any Garda to tell anyone anything? Thats the law. Thats how the country operates. If you disagree then the courts are at your service

Its not me saying that its a 'snapshot' test. Its described as such in scientific literature

    On PCR testing

    eg.see:
Provides a snapshot on the day of testing; cannot exclude that the traveller becomes positive on one of day(s) following the test, or is exposed to the virus after the test was
    performed.

    https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/sites/default/files/documents/Guidelines_for_COVID-19_testing_and_quarantine_of_air_travellers-12-2020.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjf4L-ph-jvAhWVTBUIHTuFDgUQFjAIegQICRAC&usg=AOvVaw1B1ghmrHSayIiJ2Jv90stN
Moreover, any test is just a snapshot of the moment the sample was taken.

Nonsence.Lock up 2 ladies in mountjoy for travelling to dubai, but yet a scumbag with 20 previous convictions gets off with a slap on the wrist for robbing a old folks house.

Ridiculous stance, travel aside sure all testing is pointless then - you might not have it when you get tested, but you could get it in the testing centre or on the way home.

Ergo, we should just stay quarantined 24/7, 365.

    Solid plan.
