I know a good way to stop that - let the pubs open, along with all other retail and hospitality.

Locking people up for the best part of a year and then blaming them for meeting up and socialising - It's like some Orwellian nightmare.

I never thought I'd see the day when people traded away so much for so little. It makes me ashamed of this country and a lot of people who live in it.

Every single post from you consists of you stating that you`re ashamed and continually giving out reams about the people on this country and the government school teachers, public servants, health care workers etc etc . Are you sure you wouldn`t be happier moving some where else like permanently chief?

Do you actually look up the details of anything before you post?
    It cost 850k to develop.
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/20/cheap-popular-and-it-works-irelands-contact-tracing-app-success
It worked, and had 1.2 million downloads in 8 days.

The UK one cost over 35 million and flopped.

So you think numbers will rise regardless, so let's all do what we like anyway.

Dont' get me wrong, there is a lot I dont agree with. like distance, certain business that could be open etc, but rebelling against restrictions is a lost cause

No, I know and trust the people I was with. We all have elderly relatives we haven’t seen in months and won’t see until they are vaccinated. The only vector of transmission for any of us is children in school, who are now on holidays.

None of us ever forced our children into social isolation for the many-times-more-dangerous-to-them flu that goes around every year, so we’re not doing so for this.

Contrary to it being a lost cause, it was a very fun evening, an outlet for people who’ve been cooped up too long without social activity.

A couple more of those should see me through until I head to the UK once they’re opened a bit more.

I don't believe we have changed at all as a country in half a century,

Instead of the Bishops and Catholic Church, we now have St Tony, dishing out his nonsensical sermons and rules. There is no logic of science just blind faith behind it all

The lads today that would try and shame people for socialising with their friends are the same people who would have shamed young girls for becoming pregnant. It's puritanical nonsense from people who probably had fcuk all of a social life pre-pandemic.

    Agreed. Frightening isn't it...

I suspect he might be happier if YOU would move somewhere else. Nasty attempt at shaming him.

The country needs more people willing to think for themselves and less subservient fools.

I`d say you have issues chief.

That's great and I get it, but you can't say 100 percent that there was no risk

Again I'm not saying all restrictions are right, a lot of things are just so wrong it's not funny, but if we do what we want when we want we cannot be in a position to grumble when things don't change in the next few weeks / months

Eh? I've seen it referenced many times both in briefings and in the media. Afaik its still very much a working tool in the close contact alert system
Covid Tracker app issues close contact alerts to 20,000 people in six months

Don't know about everyone here but actually catching the virus is becoming the least of my worries. I myself get f**ked with any respiratory virus pre covid(I'm young, healthy and not overweight, just my lungs aren't great at all), so ye it would probably make me sick as a dog if I catch it.
But being locked up and not seeing anyone is way worse.
The only thing keeping me to the rules is honestly financially. In the sense if I got fined for anything it would cost me alot. So admittedly fines is the only thing keeping me in check but it's getting to me.!

The app was well made infairness and was a good tool but I'm not sure enough people used it to be useful.

I have never endeavoured to live a zero risk life.

A bigger risk to the health of everyone involved was the car journey there. I don’t intend to stop driving for fear of accidents.

That's fair enough and it's your choice ( I get that and understand it)

So you won't be here giving out in 6 or 8 weeks if we still have restricions in place

I will, as I have been from the start. But not because of “the numbers” - because I have always had a moral and philosophical objection to draconian governance. Deviating from the principle of public consent is (IMO of course) dangerous and repugnant. And I’m not about to stop complaining about it because my actions were consistent with my belief. I hope that makes sense.

That’s assuming I’m still here in 6-8 weeks. Currently waiting for a UK property to be vacated so we can move into it.

Rightly, or wrongly... my opinion is that we will most definitely still be here in 6 or 8 weeks. Prob shift the 5k to 7 or 10. Something ridiculous. Then 6 weeks later they'll allow travel in your own county. Then 6 weeks after that they'll allow country wide travel. BEST CASE. In August, probably...

So - knowing what we know, going on the last 12 months... I can see the pattern. And I'm not willing to give up another 4 months of my life...

We're damned if we do, and damned if we don't.

Time to get on with living, while taking calculated risks...

Yep. Lockdown level 5 to be extended for another month/potentially 2 months.

Unsure if two months would be the right extension.

    Genuine question.

With schools being open and the new Kent variant is it entirely possible that averaging around 500 cases a day is as good as its going to get?

And before anyone asks no i dont have any source for this hence the fact its a question.

At what stage do we stop obsessing with case numbers and focus on other aspects in terms of reopening?

    Don't think so chief.

From the beginning of 2020 to now there were approx 169 fatalities on Irish roads

In the same period- there have been 4,666 deaths from Covid.

And Ireland is one of the lucky ones - the UK has had the fifth highest death toll in the world since the pandemic began ...

45 deaths in the age group we all fall under, actually.

I’m not having dinner parties with unvaccinated people in their 80s.

    Chief.

Micheál Lehane just said there that sources in Government don’t think NPHET will be allowing for much easing of restrictions.

There’s something seriously wrong with that statement.

Am hearing definitely 1 month, more than likely at least 2 more months of level 5.
